To an extent, yes. But I guess the difference then is that there was a popular culture that supported hard rock/heavy metal so that many more people were exposed to how great all this music was. Today, people are just exposed to drivel like Lil Wayne, Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Nickelcrap, and American Idol. By any measure, these acts are garbage with no real talent or depth to them. I suppose I'm a grumpy old man yearning for the music of my youth, but I do think many kids have lost out imho.
