@mvah07 It's actually recorded laughter. If it was in front of a live audience, there would be half-open rooms, not complete rooms (as seen in behind the scenes). They use recorded laughter. Also, an example. Leonard, Sheldon and Howard are wearing 3D glasses watching a movie. The camera focuses on Leonard (laughter) then moves to Sheldon (laughter) then to Howard (laughter) where if there was a live audience, they would've seen the people on stage at once, not one at a time.

The audience on TV always has some "conductor" or signs who tells them when to laugh, sigh, applaud etc
