@bsimonenko To me the Fantoms seem to have a wider collection of sounds, while I really prefer the Motif's pianos, electric pianos, organs, strings, and drums. If I had to choose between the two, I would have a Motif.
Do you know how to split voices on a yamaha motif like bass on my left side and piano on my right side. I have too but its a motif 7 and it's also a classic.
Yes, the Motif has an ARP. It comes with a bunch of preprogrammed ARP patterns such as drum kits, guitar strums, bass riffs, etc. The XS is the current model with updated sounds and features, but I do not own one. Best to research that info at sites like Motifator.
Do you tweak the settings of the Grand Piano sounds/voices or is it the original setting that comes with the keyboard that you use? They sound really great!
Okay, I have a MOTIF XS6 and I at one point didn't appreciate the quality of the sounds it produces, but I had to improve my music system (amps, mixer board, speaker) to get the real sounds which I now love. However, I find that to me, the Rock Grand Piano sound much brighter than the Full Concert Piano, so I use it alot more.
Are you kidding??? YAMAHA OWNS at rhodes stuff. THE BEST, THE BEST, there are no words, just run to the nearest music store and hear them by yourself, youll loose your mind, as I did when i buy mine.
I agree that the Yamaha instruments have the best Rhodes/electric piano sounds. Maybe "best" isn't the right word, but their patches are the ones I prefer the most. I gigged with a real Rhodes Stage 73, and frankly don't understand why anyone would want to use one of those things today (unless you have a road crew and a tech who can work on them). They're heavy, go out of tune, and have mechanical parts that can break. I'll take a Motif any day instead.
I do not Know if it is the best synth or workstation but still it is amazing . I own a Yamaha Motif ES6 for more than a year , which I use always in my compositions. I am still deep in love with it. And I have not used even 10% of its potential. A very deep synth indeed. Capable of very good mixing, sampling, audio processing, sound synthesis and being a all in one solution with no significant compromises. My best purchase by far. Nice video , keep them flowing.
This is the original Motif model. Newer versions are available in a variety of models from all the major online musical instrument stores. Try Musicians Friend, Sweetwater, Zzounds, Nova Musik, etc.
as of nowadays, may 2008, 700-1000 used. this model was discontinued and suceeded by the motif 6 es. then as of I believe, last year, that was suceeded by the motif 6 xs which sells new for about $2200. I still use the original motif 6 and it still rocks!
I can tell you what I think, the motif es was really not much different from the original motif. the major differences as far as I can tell was in the acoustic piano sound, which is a little better on the es and also, the smartmedia is much better for sequence storage on the es. I'm getting one this week. I wasn't in a rush cause I have been very happy with the original motif 6 but I got a good deal to upgrade so I am going to do that.
Love your playing. Wish I could play like that. Is that the Motif Classic or ES? I am saving up for the XS or the S90ES and will be starting lessons once I get it.
I learned how to write MIDI drum parts (and quite a lot of other things) from studying your XG scores. You gave me some great MOD wheel tips years ago in an email. Thanks for making those great XG MIDI files back then available--it was a great education.
