I was fortunate enough to get to go to the 2010 Olympics and I got to say that Canada did an amazing job. I'm an American and all of the Canadians made us feel so welcome, I absolutely love going to Canada and the pride of the Canadians shined through the hospitality was just amazing from us forgetting a backpack at a restraunt and having someone come find us and tell us we had forgotten it everything was amazing. I will never forget these Olympics <3
I think the guys over stocked on Olympic stuff like mascot plushies and those souvenir items....theres still boxes and boxes of them...just sitting there...
It's so hard to not get emotional while watching this, and I had the great experience of working the Olympic Games, memories that will last a lifetime.
We were SO proud of ALL our Olympians!! So many special moments... Rochette's bronze, Women's and Men's hockey gold medals, Jon Montgomery's Famous jug of beer!! He earned that beer, just like our Lady's hockey team did! OMG!! Canada did SO well!
i live in vancouver and the olympics was the most amazing experience of my life. it never made me so proud to be canadian, and it was the opportunity to hug random strangers, burst into O canada for no particular reason and everyone joins in with you, seas of red and white wherever you go and every street covered in olympic spirit! i had the honour off seeing alexandre bilodeau win his gold medal at an awards ceremony and i honestly say i'm proud to have witnessed history in that moment! :)
We didnt need to own anything? We won the most number of golds! i would much rather have that then the most number of medals. Whats so great about winning the most number of second and third places
My friend showed me this video, excitedly informing me that I make an appearance in it! Even if it's for less than a second, I'm honored to appear in such an amazing piece! Those 2 weeks were filled with amazing experiences that I'll never forget and despite now living in the states, the patriotism that was born as a result will never die.
Wow what can you say about the Olympics...how many of us have dreamed about scoring a goal like the one Sidney Crosby scored. You will never see Vancouver like that again in a life time..wow! Here is an Olympic song that I created that features Rap Artist Blak Ace & Singer Resa Candice, Olympic 2010 ' We All In ' Search 247GoHard
I volunteered during the Games and it was the most amazing two weeks of my life! Even today, I still come back and watch this video to remember being a part of this amazing event in this amazing country! Thank you for posting this!
I remember watching this on CBC and thinking how perfectly Stephen brunt captured the essence of what was going on. I was lucky enough to be at the Olympics for a week. What an incredible experience, and an incredible pice of journalism
Born in Canada but now American, I still have great pride in my homeland, especially when it comes to the ice. What a great experience it was watching these games seeing Canadians take pride in such a wonderful land. Stand proud Canada, especially for your troops who sacrifice so much and ask for very little.
Totally choked up. I was lucky enough to be in Vancouver for a few days during the games, and it was something I'll never forget. Even coming back to Toronto to watch the remaining events on TV, never have I felt that sense of electricity on the streets. Let's not forget what we are capable of Canada, what makes this country great. Be good to each other
Haha, I had tears watching this video. I miss the Winter Olympics so much! So glad that I was there to experience it. It was amazing! Unforgettable. Proud to be Canadian!
Even 7 1/2 months later, this video still gives me chills and makes me incredibly proud to be Canadian and to have been part of the Games as a volunteer. It was an amazing 2 weeks, and will be something that I will cherish forever!
stephen brunt said it perfect. coming from the east coast, i knew it reached across the country. Amazing journalist telling an amazing story. if your a sports fan tune into the fan radio network, nothing better than listening to him and mccown at the end of the work day!
I hope people from other countries don't think of our patriotism as arrogance, people from canada never want to sound arrogant. we are just so very proud of our country. if you live here you'll understand why, this is such a fantastic place.
@zneebify I know what you mean! I don't want people to think we got cocky after the olympics either. we're just super proud of our great country. I think that's okay! it's good to be proud of your country, everybody should be proud of where they come from. hopefully everybody will understand.
Love this video. I live in Vancouver and the atmosphere was amazing, spontaneous signing of the national anthem on the street, as a Canadian I had never experience that kind of nationalism before. We are proud to be Canadian and it was wonderful to finally show it.
I well up every time I watch this. What a games and what a country. I live in Australia today and Australia is a wonderful country with great people but Canada will always be my true home! CANADA!
Best Country in the World :) we are no big shots. we just enjoy things our own way and dont wana show off. but when we share with the world. we are the most noticeable.
I was in university during the Olympics. My roommate was born in Canada but moved to Arizona when she was 14. For the whole Olympics she wore a USA t-shirt and cheered when the US beat us 5-3. Before the final she was quiet though. Everybody would be watching the game, everyone was wearing the maple leaf and once the game started and 50 of us were crowded around a small TV she couldn't help but be overwhelmed by the emotion and pride around her. When Sydney Crosby scored she shouted "We won!"
I liked the video, but.. i don' know.. is Patriotism that important? Where are the other countries in this video? Where are those moments? I'm Norwegian, we are right below Canada with 23 medals, only 4 million people here and we love the Olympics. I don't know.. I love my country, and i'm all for competition, but some level of understanding or recognition of the hosting country would be nice.
@2dreamy Why would there be other countries in this video?? This video was produced by a Canadian journalist who writes for one of our National newspapers, it was aired on Canadian TV, and the subject of this video was on the development of Canadian patriotism.....
There were plenty of other pieces that aired on Canadian TV that included the celebration of other athletes and countries.
I can watch that video over and over, I`m so glad I was able to work the games and see so much (opening, closing ceremonies, concerts, medal ceremonies, hockey games) in person, an experience I`ll carry with me for the rest of my life.
I'm not sure if I can describe what I felt during Vancouver 2010, or even what it has left inside me forever. I could say a sense of pride but really it's more than that. I know it's a little far but imagine the sense of unity a 2028 Vancouver/Seattle bid would do.
man i remember these days im from vancouver and it was so good to see everyone so patriotic....u go into the states any day and there is flags up and always ppl wearing usa shirts....and ive always wondered why were not like that.....but during those olympics there was patriotism that i have never seen before and it was such a good feeling...we should be more like our neighbours god bless america and god dammit god bless CANADA!!!

I was lucky enough to be at the olympics with mcdonalds champion kids and the atmosphere was electric and people were goin crazy and it made you happy to be canadien.
This is truly humble. Specially the beginning how the Georgian who died was mentioned... You wont see this in an America video, they will start off talking about USA as usual.
Go Canada for being the underdog, eh. If you dont like that than take of ya hosers!
Everytime I watch this video I feel such a glow of pride, and can't help but smile! Those two weeks were amazing, and for every medal Canada won I felt that much more pride in calling myself Canadian
Also so refreshing to see so many positive commenters on here when you go to the Globeandmail comment boards they're loaded with armchair critics and cynics.
The woman breaking down while carrying the torch at 2:13 really got to me. My youngest sister was in a life threatening accident in 2008, was left in a coma. Through the help of the Glenrose staff here in Edmonton she worked hard to recover and was honoured by carrying the torch as it came through Edm.
Hey me too. I mean these games will always leave a legacy in Canadian history. I'm so proud to be Canadian, not only because the games were amazing, but it brought the entire country together.
@markdrummond508 THANK YOU! And you Americans were easily the best behaved visitors and our greatest competitors ;) Extra thanks for Sean White as well
@markdrummond508 Why thank you, I am very proud to be able to say that " I Am Canadian!!". Canada did mess up at the start, but we pulled up our socks, and just was who we are. I know people will take this the wrong way, say I'm basking in someone els's glory,. But I believe that there is a little bit of Canada in every Canadian. These were the best games I have ever seen.
Exceptional video. I emailed Stephen Brunt at the Globe and Mail to congratulate him on how well he captured the Canadian experience of the games. He replied back to me, so I'm sure he would get back to you regarding the song name at the beginning of the montage @scarrsyma
I would suggest writing Stephen Brunt at the Globe and asking him? Or perhaps anyone at the Globe could put you in touch with someone who knows. Best of luck!
Another torontonian here who has been touched by this and people's responses. This was a surprisingly historic and pivotal event in our growth as a country; I hope we cherish it and pass onto generations to come
Thank you Mr. Brunt for this wonderful video keepsake, I've bookmarked it so I can always return to it...to remind me of how good we all felt...how good we all feel...about our wonderful country and countrymen. Thank you Vancouver, Whistler, all of B.C. and all of you glorious athletes and fans....for making these Olympics the very best ever. Collectively, you've captured the heart of this aging Torontonian and the respect and admiration of the whole world.
Perfect ending for the 7 years wating for these olympics in Canada. As well great job to Canada's Olympic Broadcast media Constortuim they did so many hours in the moring, during day night and late night when your asleep. I am excited for the coverage in London 2012
It's said that Yu-Na-Kim of a gold medalist strips off a medal by an Olympic charter violation by figure skating. Doesn't anyone know new information!!!?
thank-you : this is sooo perfect. I remember they aired this right after the game and before the closing. Torontonians as well are sharing this sense of bewilderment and 'postpodium depression' (Gary Mason, Globe and Mail). It's uniting to know we all feel the same way now. How do we keep the fire alive?
I've watched this a few times thinking I was just sentimental (cynicism is easy ) but Brunt Mr sports talk radio, has some remarkable insight at an occasion that will indeed be historical. I'm damn glad I was born here!
"It is important to have a share at history, there is power in the collective experience." Perfectly Said Mr. Brunt.

I'm not sure about that - have you seen the NBC closing credits? they definitely mentioned it. It was the British coverage that was pretty sad

This is truly humble. Specially the beginning how the Georgian who died was mentioned... You wont see this in an America video, they will start off talking about USA as usual.
Go Canada for being the underdog, eh. If you dont like that than take of ya hosers!
SpaceWars2025 1 year ago
NBC actually did a great job focusing on Canadian stories. It was their time delayed broadcast schedule that was retarded.

Everytime I watch this video I feel such a glow of pride, and can't help but smile! Those two weeks were amazing, and for every medal Canada won I felt that much more pride in calling myself Canadian

Canada is the last greatest land. We have so much natural resources... pure water and such diverse land.
I love Canada but we are selling out our resources to other countries... Tell em all to take off, them hosers, eh....
If you aren't Canadian, you aren't truly free!

Canada is an amazing place, but the way you're getting on doesn't seem very Canadian of you.

These Games brought us together

TheJasonFreeman 1 year ago 5
Yeah we know the song at the end.....for the 1000th time....anyone know the name of the instrumental one near the start ?
scarrsyma 1 year ago 2
I would suggest writing Stephen Brunt at the Globe and asking him? Or perhaps anyone at the Globe could put you in touch with someone who knows. Best of luck!
Ryer1234 1 year ago
@scarrsyma i posted the song you're referring to in one of my vids - it's a commercial track called "pure and simple"

Another torontonian here who has been touched by this and people's responses. This was a surprisingly historic and pivotal event in our growth as a country; I hope we cherish it and pass onto generations to come

Very, very proud to be CANADIAN!
