Let's get rid of all the giant, ugly HAWTs that are jeopardizing our environment in the name of green energy and replace them with 1/10 the number of efficient VAWTs.

My misgiving is the dubious comment about more watts per square meter than with large horizontal axis turbines. From the video it seems that there is no possibility to use the space in between the towers. The larger "propeller" turbines have a relatively small footprint and the space between them is still useful for its original use, usually livestock grazing or farming. While it may be true that the vertical turbines produce more watt/square meter, there is no accounting for the auxiliary use.

@MrJwaB Who is to say that the VAWTs would not be placed on a horizontal set of bars elevated from a single pedestal. Then a group of such sets of turbines could provide a much denser array without impacting the use of the land beneath.

Don't sell short people's ability to work around a problem. This is still just studying the TURBINE dynamics, and how they interact when installed in groups, not for the ultimate installation design parameters.
