Well, I've have been using the same controller since I got Xbox in March of 2009. The thumbsticks are all worn out and the sticks are loose and don't flip back to being centered like those broken controllers that people use when playing games in the videogames ile at Walmart.
@EnigmaHood It's not that simple. The best D-Pad in the world, the plus (+ shape) is patented by Nintendo. Only Nintendo can use it, Microsoft isn't allowed to create something similar. Therefor they made the disc because it didn't violate the patent Nintendo had nor Sony's (who made the collapsed plus). Not much was left to be made without violating the patents.
However, due to a loop hole they are allowed to make a plus pad if it's default state is a disc. At least they try.
@ipodnerd07 This controller is a few months away from having been out on the market for a year... You should probably roll out from that rock you've been living under right about now.
The D-Pad/+ pops off of this controller after a while, just happened to mine after 7 months of use and it looks like I'm not the only one. The + is actually only fastened by a 3cm tube down the center that easily cracks making it come clean off just from regular use. Word of advice, stick to the original controllers...
He makes the "switching the disc to a +" and vice versa look so effortless. I have not yet achieved this level of mastery... But I'm driven, and someday I hope to attain this enviable level of skill!
This is still a rip off. I purchased it. It's only SLIGHTLY better since the pressure you apply is on the raised pad, but it still sucks. Raising the pad doesn't help at all. When you really think about it. That's all they did. It's still the same crappy 360 control that is naturally meant for FPS. Try pull off advanced SSFIV combos with this. You'll still have a hard time and most likely throw the controller into your flat screen tv out of frustration. A raised disc is still a disc.
@flamebot4475 Well my buttons are still in tact, but I have to say the battery pack is lazily attached. It won't secure itself to my controller as well as my other ones so if I bump it slightly it falls off. Maybe I was just unlucky and bought a faulty controller. $65 wasted. Still my opinon on this thing still stands.
the major improvement is removing those annoying bumps on the analog sticks and he doesn't even highlight that. I've been filing those things off for years

@devilmantypex if you have played the box for over 10 hours you should have the colour of the buttons burned into your brain. Its not like everytime a button prompt comes on screen you look at the control to make sure your pressing the right one. I have this control and i say its the best ive ever used and Ive been gaming for 20 odd years now and had most consoles since the master system 2. I could still tell you the exact button layouts for all of the controls without looking at the colour
@Abdullking100 I totally agree, it can only be PS3 fanboys who gave him the thumbs up rather than people who have actually bought it and used it themselves. It's a huge improvement, I was shocked as I didn't think MS would get it right, but it feels and moves as well as some of the best D-pad's I;ve ever used and that is no exaggeration.

@Thsnickaman It's MUCH easier to use for fighting games. I haven't been playing Blazblue with it but I have been playing SSF2TR HD and SSF IV and had NO problems with any of the moves.
erm, So for a play and charge kit (15£) an a default wireless controller (30£) so what, 20£ for a new dpad, and buttons that take us back to the good ole black and white days, erm. No?.
Holy shit guys the color doesn't matter. If someone went out to buy a new controller they portably know where the buttons are before looking at it. All this is is a replacement for the old controller bundled with the charge kit. I got this controller because I want a play and charge kit not because I want a d pad, if you just want a controller then just get the black or grey one. Plus the play and charge is rubbish. it only charges when it feels like it. The PS3 controller just uses a cheap USB cable to charge, but damn it works better.

this controller looks amazing... brilliant engineering on the d-pad, accommodating multiple preferences. The color change to grayscale goes much better with the rest of the controller, as the colors went better with the black controller.

nar, I play Xbox. The Microsoft Gamepads are horrible for all serious SSF4 players... You will never see a tournament player with a Microsoft Gamepad... they Always use either MadCatz Sticks/Gamepads or Hori Sticks/Gamepads. But ahwell... I got a Stick now

Honestly if you've been playing video games for a while then the whole color thing is a non-issue. How many times have you really looked down at your controller to see which button is which?
NES had two red buttons
Genesis had three black buttons
SNES had four purple buttons
Even the colors on the Dualshock can be hard to distinguish in the middle of a game.
All they needed to do was lock it up so it's already up. There's no need to twist it back. And why the hell did they need to make the colors grey? The buttons were colored for a reason! To know which color to press in the game instead of the letter! I also have the feeling if you twist the top up a lot, that it will twist automatically if you move the controller upside down or something and the D-pad will move down as you're holding it upright.

@KingR3aper Not many, but the greatest ire comes from the fighting game community and people who like to play the old school side-scrollers you can download. In all those cases, using the digital pad is infinitely more comfortable than using the analog (especially in fighting games with their precise move combinations). It's why many prefer the PS3 for these sort of games - not only is the digital pad on the controller more responsive, it's placement makes it easier on the fingers.

It's not that much of an improvement. My problem with the old dpad wasn't that it was a saucer style, the old xbox dpad worked just fine for games like Guilty Gear... My problem is that when I clearly pushed up pac man was like "I'm going left!" annnnd Pacman still would rather go left then up. Why can't Microsoft get the flippin dpad right, it's been a pretty important part of console gaming for 25 years?
I got this controller in the mail last week right when it came out. The d-pad is a lot better compared to the older controllers. It is easier yet and more satisfying to press. Adjusting it doesn't really make a huge difference imo but the action in the pad has definitely been improved. I noticed a huge difference and increase of speed when typing messages letter by letter on xbox.
@thi711 I would play it some much that I would wear out the plastic that behind the d-pad and after that, it pretty much useless. And other times I would end up jamming it in one direction.
About time the looking into change something about the D-pad. Especially if they had any idea how many of them I broke training in fighting games alone.
@CMDRKillsalot Or like games that are much better played on dpad, such as fighters, beat-em-up, shmups, etc. It's nearly impossible to go from left to up without hitting the diagonal, which could screw you completely up. Idiot.
@lJaSoNl88 lots of video games are color coded to the buttons, so instead of B you get RED, as the color is usually the easiest to remember. Now that it cannot be the case, not B is Grayscale shade variant: 20%

no le veo la diferencia con respecto al que viene con el actual, y tampoco una necesidad de que se le cambien la forma de la cruzeta al fin y al cabo para mover al personaje del juego con el stick izquerdo y la cruzeta solo como un aceso rapido a la interfaz del personaje por asi decirlo y si a uno no le gusta el mando original de la 360 sea por el motivo que sea hay muchas marcas que venden altarnativas al mismo.

They dull greyed out buttons as the original coloured and some people rely on the colours for QTE's.
Plus the play and charge is rubbish. it only charges when it feels like it. The PS3 controller just uses a cheap USB cable to charge, but damn it works better.

this controller looks amazing... brilliant engineering on the d-pad, accommodating multiple preferences. The color change to grayscale goes much better with the rest of the controller, as the colors went better with the black controller.

Still hate the bulky shape/Feel to it and the ridiculous triggers. It makes it very hard to play fighting games that require quick reflexes like Ssf4

@Linux4UnMe You probably play ps3 or PC. Its fine to me (along with all of my friends) because i primarily play xbox.
On the other hand, when i use my ps3, i have a hard time with the controller feeling tiny and pressing buttons instead of triggers annoying along with the analog sticks being so close together.
Its all what your used to. Or maybe you just have tiny hands.

nar, I play Xbox. The Microsoft Gamepads are horrible for all serious SSF4 players... You will never see a tournament player with a Microsoft Gamepad... they Always use either MadCatz Sticks/Gamepads or Hori Sticks/Gamepads. But ahwell... I got a Stick now

Honestly if you've been playing video games for a while then the whole color thing is a non-issue. How many times have you really looked down at your controller to see which button is which?
NES had two red buttons
Genesis had three black buttons
SNES had four purple buttons
Even the colors on the Dualshock can be hard to distinguish in the middle of a game.

All they needed to do was lock it up so it's already up. There's no need to twist it back. And why the hell did they need to make the colors grey? The buttons were colored for a reason! To know which color to press in the game instead of the letter! I also have the feeling if you twist the top up a lot, that it will twist automatically if you move the controller upside down or something and the D-pad will move down as you're holding it upright.

@KingR3aper Not many, but the greatest ire comes from the fighting game community and people who like to play the old school side-scrollers you can download. In all those cases, using the digital pad is infinitely more comfortable than using the analog (especially in fighting games with their precise move combinations). It's why many prefer the PS3 for these sort of games - not only is the digital pad on the controller more responsive, it's placement makes it easier on the fingers.

It's not that much of an improvement. My problem with the old dpad wasn't that it was a saucer style, the old xbox dpad worked just fine for games like Guilty Gear... My problem is that when I clearly pushed up pac man was like "I'm going left!" annnnd Pacman still would rather go left then up. Why can't Microsoft get the flippin dpad right, it's been a pretty important part of console gaming for 25 years?

I got this controller in the mail last week right when it came out. The d-pad is a lot better compared to the older controllers. It is easier yet and more satisfying to press. Adjusting it doesn't really make a huge difference imo but the action in the pad has definitely been improved. I noticed a huge difference and increase of speed when typing messages letter by letter on xbox.
