i'm preparing to start my own srv#1 project. i just bought the body and as someone that has never reliced a guitar, i was wondering if you could share some techniques?
@dhf97 How's the neck keeping up with all that tension? Did you go a half-step down from the standard tuning? I like big strings, but that's just madness : ]
@01murph Thanks 01murph. I use several things to take off paint including scrapers, files, sandpaper etc... Its not easy or fast, so be patient and take your time. To color the bare wood I basically use Kiwi shoe polish in black & brown and small amounts of minwax wood stain in cedar, maple and ebony. Mix to get the color you want. Hope this helps, Take care.
@jassrv Thanks jassrv. This one has sold, but I'll be building another one soon. Im in TN near Nashville. Check out my facebook page - RiverRock Custom Shop Guitars.
Hey everybody. I'll be posting a vid soon of my current build - John Mayer's "The Black One". Keep posted or subscribe to my channel to see it. Thanks, dhf97.
Someone really did there homework on this one! Best replica of number one I've ever seen ,right down to the wooden plug on the trem !even the string height looks correct ,great job man I am Impressed Is that neck off of a SRV fender?
Betcha Stevie would even be impressed with this one
@savage3960 Thanks, I really appreciate that. The neck was bought as a blank from a custom shop near Nashville. I hand-shaped and fretted it myself. I got the neck dimensions from Stevie's original, and reproduced them as closely as possible.
how much time and money went on these... and how much did you let them go for? im sure it takes quite a bit of time to make, but the results look satisfying. i tinker a bit with my guitars installation and all that but fret jobs and body jobs look a little intimidating to me...
Its not cheap to build one from the ground up if you use quality stuff. I had about a grand in parts alone for this build, plus a LOT of time on the relic'ing.
you really did an awesome job! i wish i could do that only i wouldnt relic it id just keep it new and play that sucker till the pain sccratched off itself. :0)
Nice job just let more time for wood to oxidize and turn gray
