For those of you commenting on the Houston Zoo - the baby, the baby's Mother and Aunt are sequestered from the rest of the heard while the baby is first born. The Houston Zoo has a brilliant and well funded elephant program that is in the forefront of research into elephant disease and breeding.

The pool is too small. The mother tried to spread the water for the baby with its leg. I think this idea has too much to do with the workers' family ideas about their own human offspring who love to swim in a colourful plastic pool
