Haiti was the name used by the French and Africans when they took over the western part of the island. Haiti means mountainous land which is definitely that part of the island, but the indians used the name Quisqueya which means "Mother of All Lands". No one has the right to interfere with our laws.

this is the second part of my comment: I am not related to Hatians. my father was from Bani DR. He worked for the sugar mill for many years. The only reason why they did it is because for one they are neighors and two they didnt want to get critized for being insenstive or racist to Haitis needs so they did everything they could in order to make their country not look bad. I highly doubt that it came out of the "goodness of peoples hearts" in the DR. I mean, this video proves it

This is to show you how ignorant the people posting in here are. We don't have any indians, they were all killed by diseases. Also, Haiti was not the name of the island, it was Quisqueya. Haiti was the name used by the French and Africans when they took over the western part of the island. Haiti means mountainous land which is definitely that part of the island, but the indians used the name Quisqueya which means "Mother of All Lands". No one has the right to interfere with our laws.

@buttercup5773 Yes, believe it or not the US is implementing a law like that. In the DR if you have a child and at least one of the parent is legal or a dominican then your child is a dominican citizen.
Now Haiti in the other hand recocognizes all children born to Haitians parents outside Haiti but not their children born in the DR, what would you say to that?
Haiti gives citizenships to their descendants born in the US and other countries but not to the ones born in the DR. Figure that.

@pensoken Pensoken are you sure you have been living here? because it is very well known by everyone that sugarcane workers HAVE FREE medical care....yes, it´s crappy one but it´s THE SAME that every other worker in the sugar industry has. Haitians, cocolos and dominicans have work in the bateyes under THE SAME conditions, that makes me believe that you are either a fake or some guy interested in talking crap about DR.

this is the second part of my comment: I am not related to Hatians. my father was from Bani DR. He worked for the sugar mill for many years. He dedicated his life to this industry and what he got?? absolutely nothing. is it as shame that some of my country men don't want to admit that this is and acurate report. i know it is, because i lived it. Dominicans never want to cut the sugar canes. all unhuman works were for the Hatians whom never refused work. to my knowlege, they were good people.

I am Dominican and my comment is addressed to those Dominicans whom try to hide the facts about how Hatians had been treated. I am from a sugar mill Batey, I am now over 50. As a kid, I remember when the Dominican goverment hire the Hatians laborer and transport them behind those trucks called "CATAREY" at that time. It was unhuman the way those workers were put behind those trucks and transported to the sugar field , using the bathroom in the truck and bad odors coming out of it. it was sad..

@pensoken I guess you dont remember that the haitian goverment signed that contract with Trujillo because of the big unemployment that Haiti had at the time...and even under those poor conditions back in that time (which are not the conditions in which they live now) they were doing way better than what they would be doing in Haiti. Should I remind you that there were also people coming from other caribbean islands? they all stayed because they were able to build a better future here ;)

I'm familiar with the caribbean and they're were very few Haitians in Jamaica and Bahamas to begin with, because they had to cross water to get to those Islands, NOT close proximity & land border like DR. What you know about Haiti makes me think that you learn that Haiti existed after the earthquake and before that you couldnt even find it in a map :) 2) You talk about children of illegal immigrants born in the USA getting the citizenship but you said it right: IN THE USA, we have a different set of rules, just like many other countries. The sad reality is that Haiti is considered to be the plague of the East. If the Chinese are well know for their cheap labor the Haitian are known to the entire caribbean for being an plague. They not only bring their cheap labor like the chinese they also bring their backwardness with them. If you dont believe me ask people from Turk and Caicos, Martinique and others Caribbean island that are mostly black people to tell you what think of Haitians.
