  • thanks for song and for photograph inspiration!

  • This is not a postmortem photo! This girl is Sally Mann's daughter, Virginia, and is very much alive and well and is attending law school. This photo was shot around 1990. You people do not know what you're talking about. I have followed Sally Mann's work for many years and she is known for her interest in the macabre and disturbing and ethereal subject matter. Thanks.

  • I came across some videos of postmortem photos last week here on you tube. They are quite beautiful, yet sad..allot of children. They did not have good medicines in those days, I don't find this creepy at all! You live, you die! I felt bad for their parents, but they're gone now too! Very nice music!

  • @IriaVintage I agree with you, this is very well done. But the postmortem photo of the little girl is *charming*??? o.O

  • @despina013 She just looks like shes sleeping, I don't find it creepy at all @_@ Then again, it takes a lot for me to be creeped out..

  • @despina013 I think it is!, (and to be honest I didn't realize this was a postmortem photo at first but anyways) I love the photo beacuse of the ethereal atmosphere that is around the girl .. and the madurity of her expression. The work of the photographer (Sally Mann) has this dark and deep philosophical style.

Today postmortem photography impresses people but 150 years ago it was something normal.

  • @IriaVintage Yes.This is a postmortem photo.I also find a etheral beauty to the image. It shows to me as a tranquility on the childs face.So it is in life as it is in death.

  • love Niyaz and Azam Ali

  • magical voice !! i wish i can meet you one day say hello to you

  • the picture is just charming ! <3

and Azam Ali's voice fits very well here

    well done.

  • I just love how mysterious Azam Ali is

  • this scares me in a good way

  • this song soothes me! i don't know why but it just does

  • 2:06 - 2:46 can you please tell me the name of that musical instrument please? Thank you. What a beautiful song!

  • i love this band........!

  • is she sleeping or...

  • @dhaenerys Sadly, it's probably a death picture. they used to do that, back in the days when pictures were still something unnerving and people would only let a picture be taken after death. They didn't consider it creepy, but saw it as preservation of something that would otherwise fade away after burial other than in the memories of family and friends.

  • @AMoonbiter Actually, I think it was taken in 1991 and the artist is Sally Mann. (Not that people don't still take memento mori photos...)

  • @loganberry30 Very possible but it could easily simply be done in the style of those photos. People do have morbid tendencies .

  • @AMoonbiter That's actually exactly what I'm saying :) It's in the style of an 19th century postmortem photo, although the subject is alive.

And while it's not the case here, people do still take postmortem photographs.

  • @loganberry30 Ah, yepper. Definitely looks like one, for certain. They did well.

  • @AMoonbiter

hey do you know what the pictures was called i rember watching a movie where they found a booklet of them but dont rember

  • @harukareddagger What which was called? The photographs were typically called Postmortem photos or Death Photos.

  • i don't why but every time i hear this song i become calm as a sleeping child!! no matter which mood i am in, i just go completely calm when i hear this song

  • thank god azam ali sings for us. i love her. god bless her always.

  • 3:38 to 3:55 has to be the most beautiful vocals I've ever heard.

  • a very talented persian girl who can sing in more than ten different languages..

  • Lyrics by Khwaja Mir Dard: mera ji hai jab tak teri justaju hai zaban jab talak hai yahi guftagu hai Khuda jane kya hoga anjam is ka main besabar itna hun wo tund khu hai tamana hai teri agar hai tamana teri arzu hai, agar arzu hai kiya sair hamne gulzar-e-duniya gul-e-dosti main ajab rang-o-bu hai ganimat hai ye did wa did-e-yaran jahan mund gayi ankh, main hun na tu hai nazar mere dil ki pari "dard" kis par jidhar dekhta hun wahi ru-ba-ru hai
  • I dont understand a word shes saying but omg i dont know this just mesmorizes me and captivates me its awesome ! (:

  • Tamana Your quest alone is my objective As long as I have a tongue, it is this of which I speak Much I have traveled in the garden of this world What color and scent I have discovered in this flower of love It is you I yearn for, if I yearn at all It is you I wish for, if I wish at all Who else can my eyes befall upon When wherever I look it is him I see before me It is you I yearn for, if I yearn at all It is you I wish for, if I wish at all
  • Beautiful Urdu poetry of Khwaja Mir Dard, 18th Century, sung by Azam Ali of Niyaz

  • is this really a sally mann photo? i tried to wiki and i dont come up with anything for this pic, and also 'book of the dead' did she write a book like that?

  • From a Book of the Dead?

  • ok that little girl is really fucking creepy.

  • @Stinachan999 u are right about that

  • @Stinachan999 lolz ... totally creepy

  • @Stinachan999 shes adorable ^_^

  • @Stinachan999 she wouldnt be creepy if it weren't for that black eye or what looks like a black eye

  • @Stinachan999 Looks like an old victorian death photo T_____T

  • I really like Niyaz! I have 2 of their albums and they are excellent!

  • niyaz <3

    sally mann <3

  • Understanding Niyaz' music is one thing, understanding Sally Mann's photography is another.

And yes the girl is alive and kicking. Its Sally's daughter.

Sally Mann's photowork frequentely isn't understood. This says more about its viewers then about her work.

  • And yes, five stars for Niyaz!!! :)

  • Sideybhai:

Niyaz has not used one Kahlil Gibran poem. they have a few Rumi songs, but Kahlil Gibran's deeply philosophical pieces.

  • So this is quasi Farsi/Afghani/urdu Style.

Most of the songs by this band is based on poetry by Rumi and maybe Khalil Gibran and such poets.

Rumi was born between 1207 AD this is from one of the other videos by Niyaz. If I am not mistaken he also collaborates with Thievery Corp.

  • Really unforgettable...

  • It looks like she will open her eyes at any moment.

  • @GOREgousdEVIL

Her eyes are open and have probably always been open! We feel before we can see!

  • @engineeringtech Well I meant literally...physically

  • i love this

  • bağlamayı çalan akadaş ztn süperde bağlamanın kendiside ayrı süper galiba ztn bağlamada değil ya başka bişey orası ayrı konu .. :) o ravi shankarın çaldığı şeyden olabilir

  • what language is that

  • It's Urdu- a language spoken pretty much throughout the subcontinent.

  • @wondrouslystrange its Urdu. which is mainly spoken in Pakistan. In India they speak Hindi. Hindi is very similar to Urdu.

  • @EnglishSuckPaki4Life People also speak Urdu in India. It's one of India's official languages. Hyderabad, Lucknow and Delhi are still thriving centers of Urdu. I should know, I'm Indian and we speak Urdu in my household.

  • Azam Ali has the best voice ive ever heard. I love how all her songs have a mysterious secretive tone to them. Behtarin Sedah.

  • So this was Azam Ali singing?

    what's "Niyaz" then?

  • Niyaz is the name of the group. Azam is the singer, the other two are instrument people/backing singers.

  • ok, guys. I see here it's a Sally Mann photo. great. thanks anyway.

  • has anyone any idea who tooh this picure or how can I get hold of it?

  • The girl is dead. In the early times (like 400/500 Years ago) people took pictures of their loved ones. Just 2 remember them as they were. Awesome song and band by the way! Is she Persian, Arabic, Hindi, Kurdi.......? She sings al kinds of style.

  • She's Iranian, born in Tehran but her family moved in India she was raised there... After the iranian revolution, instead of come back to the country, the family went to ameria, she was just a teenager. by the way she sings in hindi in most of songs... NB: 400/500 years ago they took that picture?? is it a joke lol camera appeared around 1880....

  • ^ Loooooooooool!

  • back then, they would have artists who drew pictures that were so in detail, that it looked like a photograph.

  • Yes i see what u mean, u right,, take care yaar :p

  • so we have now, the style is called hyperrealism

  • Another awesome song by the greatest singer of all, Azam Ali. THANK YOU!!

  • shes' Alive, she got stug by a bee shortly before this picture was taken
