just to let you know why the spectators did not go to push him back over is because the marchals were telling us not to! then they just flapped arround like headless chickens!!! dont get me wrong marchals do a great job in these rallys but they happened to have a bunch of idiots here unfortunatly for mikko!!!
Quando a gente diz que portugues e burro eles acham ruim, esse video prova o que nos falamos. Uma cambada de portuga sentado e nao faz nada, quando faz, faz besteira.
@SirJazz Heh I was in that SS. Mikko crashes about 300 meters forward in my watching place. It was sad that he crashes but fortunately Jari-Matti takes win.
The car was upside down in a drainage ditch, you can see how much hard it was to roll it over with 8 marshall's. I'm guessing as well as assessing Mikko's they were probably waiting for backup.
If you read there Bib's, its says SAFETY marshalls. I Don't think the priority is get him on the way again. The priority is to make sure that everything is done safely not fast!! Plus, its the FIA that want the spectators kept away from the stage, on any other rally, the marshals would probably have been more than happy to get some help.
There was more than enough time for checking and a screaming finnish rally driver isn't going to say he is bruised please retire me is he?? . I know about the spectator bit that is why marshalling the Rally gb is a farce!
well explained.i was down there turning the car over. and anytime wasted was either to ensure the driver and co driver was ok before we made a decision to turn him over. when he was back up, we were waiting for 1. to see if his car was even able to be moved or driven, then waiting for the driver to start the car then get it int gear.
I do the same in off-roading and the same priority but to give the driver help, he would rather be on his wheels! get the car moved if you are worried about safety. you would be able to tell if was able to be driven when it was upside down and just after the accident, it was obvious it could be driven, it can be driven with 3 wheels and a trashed bodywork, off roaders regulary do this so does that mean common off-roaders drive better than the top wrc blokes??
between 50-1.28 marshals were ensusing Miko was not hurt. 1.28-2.15 marshals were waiting for Miko to get his engine going and find his gear. 2.15 -3.30 marshals were pushing him out the ditch. Marshals were not shit. its just the problem of species not aloud to help. well done to the Marshal that took the bollocking for allowing the croud down the hill.
absolutley pathetic display from the marshals!prime example of the growing number of clueless power hungry idiots that are giving the majority of sound, knowlegdable marshals and bad name and turning away many of the sports traditional fanbase.
if specys were allowed that car woulda been back on road in 30secs. health and safety ruins yet another motorsport.well done thanks for that!not to mention severly hampering fords manufactures title bid!
'thay're never gona get that moving' yea ok, well done Marshall's on getting him going, stupid knob head speckys just standing about doing nowt yet again, rally's dont happen without marshals, can speckys say the same !
oi!! most aren't Welsh!! I am only 30mins from both Walters and Sweetlamb but I have to pay to be on a scheme run by My Sweet A*** and go on 3 national rallies and go on a training day! twice a year, but seems you don't! I have marshalled for 3 years in off road events and Dad a lot longer (ex co-driver) and this is very surprising what the MSA let through. I blame the English! haha
If it was not for marshalls these events could not go ahead for your enjoyment yes some are trained and some are novices but not every one can get to the training courses. My husband is a marshall down there he has had some marshall training. But he has been doing marshalling for approx 2 years and is pretty good at it.
quote: Marshalls are unpaid volunteers. Give them some respect.............
Maybe so, but if your going o volunteer perhaps they should know what to do when something like this happens....every other country seem to know. Rediculous. Bunch of amateurs! Crazy!! Only in the UK!
Just after this video stops you'll see loads of spectators running towards it to push it out - quite a few of these were the people running large distances to the scene. Once a couple of people started to ignore the marshal by the fence the car was out in no time.
It's a shame that the marshals didnt have the appropriate training, but fantastic to see so many volunteered.
Could some one please tell me where did they find these people to marshall? Ive never seen such a crowd of un-organised twats! Poor Mikko must think the same!!
Yep, same thing here in Finland. Only difference is that here marshalls know what to do in situations like this one. In interviews Mikko was pretty pissed because of incompetent british marshalls.
well that is appalling!! I have marshalled that very section on AWDC 4x4 events and 1 they are going a hell of a lot faster and 2 conditions shouldn't matter you are mashalling on an international rallying event and supposedly had marshall training as part of the MSA scheme? you must warn other cars about the accident (flag marshalls?), radio it in, and sort it out FAST not stand there like lemons!
Llastly, if ford dont win and they blame 1 incident then they only have themselves to blame. I thgink you'll find that if they narrowly miss out they will not be shallow minded enough to blame a few marshalls who perhaps diddnt want to be killed and were p[robably waiting to hear what the upside down driver wished for.
Last of all - this is all guess work - i now very little but sometime a bit of perspective is a good thing eh?
can anyone explain why the spectators didnt swamp the car and turn it over strait away instead of the marshals pissing about for a few minutes? i was further up the bank so stoped where i was when i saw 100 or so people running towards the roll! i presume it was the marshals telling them to keep back, if this is the case fords chance of retaining the championship is ruined because of people listening to stupid shitty health and safety crap!!!!!!!
Good video, it looks like you were standing only a metre from where i was stood on sweetlamb 1. I was dissapointed i had to moved for sweet lamb 2 and to rub it in i was looking in that direction when it happened but didn't spot it in the mist from the double hairpin! they all seemed to be going a little sideways when they came off that jump
We went to Sweet Lamb for stage 2 (Which later became the first stage), but wanted to go to Myrihen for stage 6, but on the way out of Sweet Lamb car park, we hit something; and damaged the bottom of our car, the suspensions a bit strange too. So we had to miss Myrihen, to sort out the car. It's a 3 week old Grande Punto. Wasn't very happy..
Anyway, stage 2 was good there. We stood by the water splash, which was a nice little place to stand. At least we managed to get to the SA1.
That was pathetic. One of them is pulling grass out of the front! Sorry, yes marshalls give up their time for free, but I think it's very dangerous to have a group of them standing around clueless in the road.
They got there in the end. Just after this vid ends spectators swamped the car and got them going again. Very cool. Yes could have been a bit slicker but hey, it was a car crash!!
marshals are useless

Turn it over!!!! All the spectators should have run like mad cows to the car and turn it.
Hirvonen said in Finnish tv that in rally Finland the car would have been turned in 2 mins max. But he laughed about it so no bad feelings.

....once engine running and in gear obviously we it is then the drivers duty to get him self back on track, we can't really do much.
