I have a 97 4.6 liter in a Cougar. It's got brown sludge in the coolant reservoir that keeps coming back after flush and coolant disappearing. Someone suggested the lower intake manifold gaskets. But I'm not sure WHAT ARE (or where are) the lower intake manifolds. Are they they "white" things in your video at 6:16 that have the ports that connect to the upper intake manifold? It's been a lot of years since I used to rebuild engines. I'm tempted to try this.
@imjustpassinthru not sure what a lower intake gasket is. but if your loosing coolant it's going somewhere. could be an the intake gasket. does the oil look OK? any crud on the dip stick? is the motor misfiring? when these intakes crack the coolant could be sucked into a cylinder. easy to check just pull a couple plugs. be careful these heads are prone to stripping. but i must say these intakes have a poor track record. i would suspect the intake and not the gasket. really not a hard job
OMG.... i almost cried lookin at that engine lol. verrryyyy clean for a 97. i had a 93 just like it, got it from a older guy who's disabled do it never left the garage. got hit by a frikkn idiot running a red light... anyway they are great cars... the only thing i ever had to replace was the manifold which is a problem on ford 4.6's
yeah I used after market parts. My original ruptured while I was pulling my camper up a big hill on the 4 lane. I had the cruise set and it geard down and just the RPM's went waaaaay too high. That one lasted about 2 years. The other one went out in Februrary this year same situation minus the camper, I was just really loaded. I Learned not to use cruise on the mtn's lol. both times it ruptured on the drivers side back side of the intake. Not too bad of a fix...$249.00 then I had coupons :)
Nice, sooner or later I'm going to have to do this to my 1996 Cypress Edition Lincoln Town Car. It has 77,000 miles. There's a walk around video on my channel if you want to see it. =)

Lovely Ladies youhave there. :) My poor ol Pearl (96 Town Car) has nearly 200,000 miles. I've replaced two of those intake manifolds.
