  • Awesome. I don't really know anyone Hmong from Vietnam. They majority of Hmong I know are from Laos. It's nice to know that there are Hmong from Vietnam as well.

  • i want to go back to thailand, laos, and china and probably back to siberia to where we Hmong came from. I wanted to retrace my dad and my greatancestors' footsteps back to where they all came from and why i am here today. I'm Hmong and proud to be Hmong.

  • Muastik, it's so nice that you have such desired. Most youngsters wouldn't bother or care much anymore these days about our history. I feel sad that our youngsters these days most of them just think they are Americans, but what I've learned growing up no matter how Americanize we are we will always be asked "Where we came from" or "What we are"? These questions it is like a constant reminder to us that we are not originally belong. So, I feel it is important to know who/where we are& came from.

  • Maivxis,

Do you have any plan to go back to visit vietnam again?

  • Who is this? Yes, I'm planning to go back in a couple years. Maybe 2010, if I can save more money before that then I'll go sooner. I just don't want to go alone. I'd like to go with my siblings.

  • my dad left alot of his very close cousins back in north vietnam too. they live in a village called "hav huab" in hmong.

  • I wouldn't know what "hav huab" is but it sounds like a nice name. Even my dab's village pronounce "Phwv Pam", but in the map it says "Pubang". So Hav Huab could have a different spellings in Vietnam or Map. U should definitely take your dad back there for a visit. Vietnam has some of the most beautiful scenery even I was shocked. Now there's lots and lots backpackers travel through there like disneyland so it is not like in the war movies we all have seen. It's very safe now. So many westerns.

  • Very interesting? from my heart. I think your family sure did the right thing. Because its time for our Hmong people to search and discover our root and our family just like your (My Long Lost Families) very wise for what you did. Its amaze me how your grandparent can still show you your family and relative from China to Vietnam and fluent in both language. Thanks.

  • It's not my grandparents. I never met any of my grandparents. It is my parents that I was talking about. These relatives are all from my father's side of the family. He has left 2 sons, 1 dauther & a younger brother over 70 years ago. Since then all these people have created a little village. And thank you for your nice compliments also.

  • your dads from vietnam? asiane

  • Both my parents were born in Vietnam soil, but raised/lived mostly in China. They both speak fluent Chinese & of course Hmong. However, they've left in the '50s into Laos where the rest of my siblings were born. They are 100% Hmong breed. As everyone know there are Hmong in China, Vietnam, Burma, Thailand & Laos.

  • Asiane,

I'm curious about the name Hmong, Miao, Amao, Amu,...Do Hmong-China call themselves Hmong or Miao?

  • peb yog hmong ...

  • whats the name of the song?...

i would love to have it...

    plz....

oh and my mom wnats me to go with her some day back to loas to see her relatives aswell...

  • The title is "Hmo Ntawv Hmono" by Luj Yaj. I'm not sure what volume it's in. You should go back to trace your history. Although this is my relatives in North Vietnam, not Laos. Laos is not as scarry as many peple have said. One just had to be there to see it. It really has changed!

  • i like this song but it's so sad... when i saw these pictures with this song, it's difficult for me to saty without sad feelings !

    it's hmong song ?

  • Toupatou, yes it is both Hmong songs. This is a collection of photos when I went back with my two sisters & b/f meeting my long-lost relatives for the 1st time. My dad left two sons and a daughter with a younger brother 80 some years ago, we were meeting the whole family for the first time again.

  • If anyone call me Hmoob Nyab Laj MisKas, I will disclaim that for I am truely just Hmoob. Fourth Generation from China, where Hmoob truely came from.

  • Yangboi, my dad was born in this village and left one late at night never knew he could returned. This happened 80+ years ago. We just found them again in 1989. Unfortunately, my dad passed away a year later in 1990 already (at the age of 88). As mentioned above, my mom/dad fled to Laos in the '50s where I was born in the late 60s. The number of Hmong in Laos is nothing compare to N. Vietnam and/or China. I also have immediate relatives in China as well.

  • My grandpa also fled Pubang, Vietnam. The reason; Vietnamese mistreated the Hmong people. Making the fathers work during the day and taking their wives for the night. The reason for taking their wives; they claim to teach the wives lessons. No one really knows other than what do people do at night? Very obvious? My grandpa threatens to kill the Viet guy that tries to take my grandma. After he over heard many Viet guys are after him, he took his family and fled quickly to Laos in late 1950's.

  • MaiVwj, Then I should know your family? Is Vaj your maiden name? I'm just wondering, because when I went back to Pubang in 2004. 80% of the village are my immediate families/relatives. It would be nice if you can tell me more about your family background.

  • Yes, Vaj is my maiden last name. My great grandpa (Chu Oe) from China, than my grandpa (Tong Chi)and than my Dad. He is the youngest of his brother and the only one survive the Vietnam War along with his two older sister. We are Hmoob Dub and we also have distance relative that are Hmoob Txaij (They are decendent of my Great Grandpa's brother).

  • That story makes me angry. Hmong people are mistreated everywhere around the world including the U.S.. In Thailand, the girls would go to work and get raped. I think the problem is we are not united and do not fight for a common cause.

  • Really? wow! how do you know them then? Respond plz asap. ok?

  • thanks.

  • This song is really moving.Who's the singer ?

  • UncleHo, the first song sung by "Luj Yaj" & the second one sung by "Ly, Dang (Lis Ntaj)" of Xanakee from France.

  • i really enjoy your video. you can hardly find anything on the past so this was very refreshing. thanks for sharing.

  • My dad was born in one the village (Pubang) in Vientnam, and during the French revolutionary in SE, he fled to Laos in the '50s. But I was born in "Longcheng, Laos". Which would made me a Hmong-Vietnamese decent, but a Lao born would made me a Lao nationality with Hmong ethnicity. Not that I deny my Hmong-Vietnamese heritage, I just knew nothing about that life style.

  • Pubang ? do you mean the place close to China's border ?

tell me more we maybe related, too

  • Lig, "Pubang" is the Vietnamese spelling. However, my dad kept referring to "Phwv Pam" as in Hmong prononciation. From what my relatives saying Pubang is very near to China, but not sure whereabout in China, I would guess it's "Paj Tawm Lag" (Wenshan)? What do you mean we may be related? I would like to hear more about your family!
