It wasn't drugs. John did this song for his girlfriend instead of breaking up with her. For god's sakes just because people think the Beatles were on drugs doesn't mean their music was drug related.

Actually LSD was the inspiration for this. But LSD intoxication is not as dreamy as this, it's very intense and often unpleasant.
