  • SO TEXAS,SO ROBERT EARL. GOD I MISS MY HOME STATE AND THE SONS OF HERMAN HALL. THEY JUST DON'T MAKE MUSIC LIKE THIS ANYWHERE ELSE.

  • I did my laundry once in college station and they fucked up and put a bar in the laundry mat. They had a contest to drink one of each beer they had, something like 100 different kinds or something. Well i gave it a good try but never let a redneck drink beer in a laundry mat, we may have the money to pay our tab, but come on, who wouldnt load up and just leave with a nice drunk on...love texas

  • @wetdog316 Putting a bar in a laundromat in Central Texas is NEVER a fuckup. God bless Texas.

We even got my MIL listening to it. HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!

  • One of the finest musical minds Texas has ever produced. I love anything he's had a hand in.

  • @nosebone500 I couldn't agree more with ya on that. Probably one of the finest musical minds anywhere in the entire country.

  • Nice Ponytail.

  • This song is just not good..it is near genius. And I speak as a Yankee not particularly into country.

Advise to foreign fans...plz dont call my Southerners Yanks....they dont like it.

    Peace.

  • you can never go wrong with great texas music

  • My husband introduced me to Robert Earl Keen, John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker...great artist

  • Of all the versions of this song on YouTube this one is my fave! I had this version at one time and I think it is on my computer but it won't work on my MP3 cause of the way it was dl'd

  • man doesnt get any better than this. i love texas and will never leave this home of mine

  • And a screen without a picture since Giant came to town.

  • 4 people are longhorns...

  • I saw him do this is Steamboat Springs in '89 or '90 not long after Sons Of Hermann was recorded, Friend from Athhens GA sent me a TDK 90 minute cassette (sound as ancient as "an 8 track tape deck and an 8 track tape of Bill Monroe's greatest hits" now. don't it?) that had REK on one side and the Austin Lounge Lizards on the other. I got off my ass and moved to Texas.

  • Ah, I love Texas country. Especially when REK talks about good 'ol College Station!

  • Makes me miss Texas. I lived on a cattle ranch/ timber farm in East Texas. I used to hunt, fish, and just explore the woods...I played a lot of REK back in those days.

  • Give 'em something to talk about on their way to Luby's!

I was hoping this was a video shot of the live show at the Son's of Herman hall :)

  • still as good as the first time i heard it

  • my god I miss dudley's and northgate (but mostly dudley's). I'd give a million dollars to ride my bike up there and be too drunk or too fucked up on other stuff to get back hom again. Why did they have to make it all pretty? seriously.

  • For me, one of the key moments in the song & story is at the end..."This old porch is just a long time waiting and forgetting, and remembering the coming back, not crying about the leaving. And, remembering the falling down & the laughter of all those SOB's who said we'd never get........................( back up."). What the he'll happened to those two key words?

  • @dave5375 From all those Sons o' Bitches who said We'd never get bet back up

  • @dave5375 One of the best lines in the song.

  • Anybody know Lisa Boyett and David Ethridge? REK talks of her Grandfather in this song. David was a friend in the early 90's of mine. He dated her and they had an apt. behind Dudleys. Lyle Lovett and REK had just moved a few years afore then I think. Love the song and miss "Northgate". p.s. Hate what they did with the old parking lot there!

  • WHOOP! Farmers fight!

  • Awesome song, one of my all time favorites.

  • You make me smile Robert, wow, what a song!!!

  • Luv ya Robert Earl

  • R.E.K.jr RULES

  • love it awesome

  • This is so good! This is what music and texas is all about. i've sent his music to friends throughout the country and they absolutely love it. It just shows how stale Nashville is.

  • @mindeloman Canadians luv it too!!

  • @mindeloman agreed, good music is good music no matter what

  • @mindeloman what do you mean how stale Nashville is?

  • @samhugh08 Nashville is very much a "box". And if anyone thinks outside of that box, they'll never make it through nashville and rely on local markets. That was the point of "outlaw" country in the seventies. Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson got tired of the Chet Atkins over produced music. (ex. rose garden) So they produced their own music that harkened back to country roots. Today is the same thing. Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, and etc. It's just music pushed on the masses.

  • @mindeloman Amen! My husband only listens to classic country (hates most "new" country except Alan Jackson or Texas George, etc) & this is what country is supposed to be, not some jokers in their baseball hat & some distressed jeans & new cowboy boots singing about stuff they don't know anything about :)

  • Yep, best version.

  • this is the best version :)

  • @jake16seahawks Lyle's is pretty good too, but the tenor of each is so different! This has a happy feel to it, Lyle's is more of a lament. I love 'em both!

  • @jake16seahawks this is from the Live Album right?

  • @jake16seahawks By far. THIS IS TEXAS MUSIC. All the other crap is just that...CRAP. Thank god for REK and for TEXAS.

  • Classic REK...cant go wrong with this song!!!

  • ty =)
