Take the song as what it means to you if you so desire, it's about your enjoyment, but it is actually written to God. When I last saw them in Dallas he specifically said that it was.
It's cool if it's about god or whatever, but I don't think he's trying to shove god down our throats with his music. It could just as easily be to a girl or boy, as this song makes me think about my boyfriend. In fact, before ever listening to him on youtube I never even knew he was christian. All I know is my heart is open and I want him to take it, I'm constantly wondering if we're everything he hopes for, everything I do is for him, and my soul sings when I'm with him. Sounds perfectly human.
Honestly, this could go both ways. If you're as faithful as Bryce, then indeed, it's about God. If you aren't religious, you can perceive this in any way you want. I'm pretty sure he avoids mentioning the word "God," so anyone can enjoy this, not just Christians. A lot of songs are like that.
We could argue for days on what this song is about but what did the artist right it for and what is their view? Truly and honestly that is what the song was written for and what it is about. It could be a girl, guy, or God. In my opinion I would have to say God because of the fact that he says at the beginning that you have stood at my door for so long. And abundantly you have asked have you recieved. And Later, "So much feelin, of my soul is singin. And EVERYBODY feels the same." Just myopinion
Both time I've seen him live, I've just broke out in tears when he played this song. Something about it is so moving, whether it is about God or a love in life you have. Everyone can relate to it with their own interpretations; it's just such a beautiful song.
everyone has their own interpertations of this song, for some it may be about god, to others its something different. my favorite songs are those that can mean many different things to many different people, and his songs are amazing in that way <3
@KatlovesTRS hahaha I cried too, I was in the front row at warped and then he crowd surfed during it and I touched his leg twice, his arm, and his butt xD I was freaking out then at his signing I was at like the very end of the line so bryce sat there talking to me for like 15 minutes straight, it was sooo worth missing mayday parade.
I thought of this song too when they announced Obama won! I know it's religious and all, but something about this song is so inspiring to me in a different way, just like Obama winning was inspiring.
This is so true to christianity, god could b waiting at your door, and you are choosing not to let him in. Awesome lyrics, we play this song at my church all teh time x]
This song is so not about a girl, or a boy depending on what situation you are in. This song is about God, and him changing and becoming closer to him. If you disagree with me, that's fine because I am open for a debate. Just message me and I will show you what I am talking about.
@billman9825 All of his songs are open to interpretation, and just because you are a fool who puts all of his beliefs behind your god, and your religion, it doesn't' mean that everyone else does too. I'm sure no one gives a crap enough to debate with you because that is really the case with most good music - it's open to interpretation.
@DylanTyler19 There's no reason to call someone a fool for believing in something you don't. No one here insulted your belief system. And while someone can appreciate a song in a way different than the way it was meant to be appreciated, the fact remains that Bryce Avary, unlike many modern artists, did have a direct message he wanted to send with this song. I think being the Christian "fool" that he is, he'd be honored that others are at least trying to make sure people know what it was.
@alpha4189 I think that if Bryce wanted people to get a Christian message from his music, he would simply say so. The man is perfectly capable of speaking for himself.
@billman9825 I respect that you believe that, but I completely interpret this song differently. I dont think you really have a right to say what a song is or isnt about. It can be about anything you feel. That doesnt seem fair to people like me who think about certain situations where it does apply to a special person in our lives. But I do understand your take on it. Its cool you think that, but you should also understand its not the only point of view.
@billman9825 Everyone has the right to interpret the song as they feel fit! Bryce knows that many Atheists listen to his music, therefore he tries not to use the word "God" in his music, so everyone can relate in their own way. This song is not meant to make everyone that listens to it, feel the same. It's to make everyone feel that brightness inside, because they understand, in their own way maybe, but they understand. It touches everyone individually.
oh i got it now if want to know what im talking about go listen to the guitar solo in "Hosanna" by Hillsong United at 2:42 the guitar is solo is similar to his piano solo
i love the song, im a total music junky and the piano solo at the end sounds exactly like a solo from a different song that i cant remember the name of if anyone knows please reply to my comment. i know hes good at piano but he either copied this solo or just miracously made up the same one but its whatever

It's funny how people argue about whether Bryce's songs are talking about God or not.
I think it's amazing that the meanings of his songs are almost entirely up to the listener.
