@SirEpicality i have skyrim and my character in it is very powerful. with that said, I'd have to agree with you. it is pretty dull. i played it for 2 weeks, maxed my level, raised the difficulty to master and STILL couldnt find an enemy that challanged me. its really slow gameplay, 1 dagger is as fast as 2 and you cant switch between melee, magic, and acrhery like this game.

I heard these same lines with Dragon Age 2 and that turned into a giant button mashing snorefest. Show me someone playing it, perhaps an in depth look at the controls and I'll be your biggest fan. Don't sit tell me you want to "bring me into the action." I'm really interested in the game, but if the combat consists of me pressing a over and over, I'm going to be pissed.

@chenzi1234 Skyrim is a pretty good game. The quests are unique. Some of the locations get a bit linear though. The combat isnt really much to brag about either, just pressing the same button. This game seems to have funner combat, dont really know how to quests will be though. Me personally? i'd probably get this because i prefer fantasy type games over realisticly styled games any day.

Totally lovin the flame blast that blast your target and propels you backwards away from them. Brilliant Mage ability! It'll make a good Rogue ability too. Like a blast of flying daggers that also has you flying back away from the target.

@AlaCarcuss There's no such thing as a hardcore gamer. Very few MMOs have any action elements in them. Judging by the video, combat is a bit deliberate not twitchy. Turn based gameplay lends itself better to TRPGs than CRPGs and if you want that type of gameplay, then play a TRPG or a CRPG from Japan. This game is not either of those things and as such you have no reason to complain. Lastly, this is a combat video, obviously they aren't going to talk about the RP aspects of the game.

On a more serious note, I'm 50 years old and have been playing video games since the late 70's. If by TRPG you mean Tactical RPG, then there was a time when all CRPG's were TRPG's. Also, no such thing as a CRPG from Japan - they're JRPG's (which a not RPG's at all).

Some examples of great Turn based RPG's: Fallout 1 & 2, Arcarnum, ToEE, Wizardy (1-8), All SSI Gold Box games. You following??

First, regarding hardcore gamers: There is no such thing as a hardcore gamer, because it is not defined by specific or objective parameters. In other words, what one person calls hardcore another calls average, or a profession. Granted, some people play games more than others and with different arbitrary restrictions, but at the end of the day they are all gamers. Next: RPG classification.

The Kings Field series, Demon's Souls, Tales Of series, Star Ocean series, and Ys series are JRPGs, but aren't CRPGs. The classification JRPG tells you nothing about the game other than where it was made and, as such, isn't worth using. So, yes there is such a thing as a CRPG from Japan (Dragon Quest). Next: Why this is relevant.

A JRPG is a genre unto itself and completely distinct from Western cRPG's. Examples of JRPG's: Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Persona series... etc.

If we took the word race at its actual definition, then there would be only one; human, but that isn't the case because we, as a culture, foolishly say so. Similarly, JRPG actually means Japanese role playing game, but has other implications in the West (turn-based combat, unchangeable plot, etc.).

@AlaCarcuss Also, to correct two of your earlier mistatements; a tactical RPG has movement defined by a parameter. Just because an RPG is turn-based doesn't make it a tactical RPG. And Western style RPGs are not action RPGs. The style just refers to the art direction and the way the gameplay is generally conducted (i.e. no visible ATB gauges). Bioware is one of the companies that has defined the Western RPG and has never once made an action RPG unless you count Mass Effect.
