Yes, leaning back too far does slow you down and will cause you to lose balance. Chest out like you are trying to look big haha. You dont want to be round shouldered and hunched over. Try pull out drills, which would be leaning over hard to the right and just hold that position. Get comfortable and balanced pulling hard and getting your body low to the water. Remember, your body position should be the same in your pull of just riding behind the boat. Then do the left side.
Glad you are getting into the sport. I would go probably 32 MPH (boat speed) and 15 feet off the rope to start with. Next, you need a better stance, chest out, hips forward, knees bent. Think of it as if you are trying to bend your ankles, this will push your front knee out past your toes on your front foot. This will also put more of your weight forward on your ski which is good. People often think you need to lean back real hard....not true. Once in this stance, just lean to one side.
@sixam69 humm.. I think I got it.. so as you could see I did lean back and that makes me lose speed, right? What exactly did you mean by "chest out"? I didn't get it. and thank you VERY much for your tips! :)
