I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so Also keeps carbs/injection and tank clean and rustfree!
I drove one in highschool,a 1964 TR4,it was red like this one in the vid with true spokes and center knockoffs.I ran around with the top down and the tannue cover with the passenger seat covered.I WISH TO THE LORD I HAD NEVER SOLD THAT CAR.DARN IT!!!!
I had a 1962 TR4. It was completely stock. All I did for performance upgrade was remove the cylinder head, ported it and got a 3 angle valve job performed on it. I then upgraded the SU carbs to bigger ones from a Jag. I believe they were HS6 models. I outran many Austin Healey 3000s, BMWs and many American V8 cars with my TR4. A well tuned 4 cyl TR4 will outrun a TR6 or TR250 six cylinder and I did it many times. The only draw back was the slow shifting tansmission. Cure? Toyota 5 speed tranny.
To outrun a racing TR6 with a TR4 is a very hard job as a common 6 do have 200 HP and maybe beyond while a reliable power figure of a 4 ends at about 180 HP. The only advantage is the cornering speed of a 4 which might be a little higher.
Normally the stock gearbox is okay for racing, also the OD. No complaint about that.
Have a look at my racing videos.....much better performance.
my dad says you completely tuned it and ur a crazy driver, i think so too but tr4s arent that powerful... its not a tractor engine you have! (the tr4 engine) and do you have the original brakes?
In 2002 the car was a normal TR4 with Weber carbs...maybe 112 HP. The tuning came in year 2004 'till today. The car has standard brakes. Only racing brake pads I use.
I've restored a 67 TR4A-IRS and put a lot of work on lightening the engine parts. The engines were from TRACTORS...the bearing shells had Massy-Ferguson logos on them! I removed a huge amount of weight on the con rods and with skimmed head, aluminum flywheel and porting/polishing it feels like I'm getting 150hp out of a 2 litre 4 cyl. A big limitation is lack of limited slip differential. The car is so tall and skinny that the rear wheels lift even with sway bars and Koni conversion.
It is wonderful to see this driven so well. It is meant to be driven on skinny tires, and beautiful to see you hang in out in the corners. When these cars on on wide tires and slicks they're not the way it should be.

Brilliant post, I'm going this summer, what are the rules on video cameras in the car? I read on the official website they are strictly forbidden.

No camera at tourist driving. Cameras are allowed at races and trackdays.

A CanAm has way more power . . . Big V8 and all that . . .

I just reported what the owner of the car told me. He was preparing to race at the Orwell Supersports Cup and did an installation lap.
