Um. This was a bio assignment that we completed in one night. We got a 100% and if you spend your time complaining about the fact that we sing poorly or have our facts wrong in a SCHOOL SCIENCE VIDEO we made two years ago… well then we feel that you should make fun of it. If that is what makes you feel good about yourself.
FleshFlake is right, back then female scientist were not given proper credit, and Rosalind did die of cancer before the results were published i believe. However she was the one that took the x-ray of DNA that lead to the discovery of its double helix form. They just happened to get it from her... lol good song tho
Watson and Crick outlurked Franklins idea. They (one of them anyway) saw her work she had taken some kind of photo of some kind and they new that it illustrated a dubble helix.
@vasemedroserii Again, she hadn't interpreted the photo correctly and they didn't steal her idea. They did steal the photo, however, which was only made possible through Franklin's work on x-ray crystallography and her discovery that the DNA researchers had been looking at up until then was a mixture of alpha and beta configurations.
@FleshFlake No, they just stole crucial data from her. They still did a lot of the work and she wouldn't have figured it out, either without their data. The real tragedy was that they wouldn't treat her like an equal and that they couldn't all just collaborate and share the credit.
I believe she held a lecture about her X ray diffraction findings that implied a helical structure, based on a double repeating pattern given off by the structure, attended by both Watson & Crick. While she did have a paper outlining what turned out to be the 'true structure' first, the guys published first. Most people now understand science is a collection of ideas and the sharing of knowledge, don't get so hung up on who got the credit. Science = search for knowledge, not fame.
@FleshFlake it was Rosalind Franklins X-Ray crystallography picture of DNA and in my AP Bio class, we learned she worked with Watson and Crick to lead to their conclusion of the Structure of DNA as a Double Helix.

Watson and Crick did determine that DNA has a double helix structure. They elaborated on Franklin's work. They did not steal her work.

Watson and Crick did not find the double helix: Rosalind Franklin did. Her work was stolen by those douche bags.

@FleshFlake When Watson and Crick won the nobel prize for these discovery they gave Rosalind credit. She also gave it to them to use
