As someone who believes that the Cuban people should have democracy, I'm also conflicted on the legacy of Fidel Castro. I've read countless books on Castro and if you block out the horrible atrocities this man has done to his own people you would think this man had the potential to have been a great leader. So many African nations revere Castro because of the aide Castro has given. I can go on and on about the great things Castro has done that the U.S will never give him credit for.

In the collective good society your doomed to live your life in poverty with no drive for success. If you are not born into the upper reaches of society you will not reach those heights. In American anyone can achieve Greatness. Look at the current President. I may not agree with him but his story is proof that Capitalism is the best way to achieve freedom for the mass's.
FYI - the banking/housing crisis (and the Great Depression) were caused by free-market capitalism. And full collapse was prevented by GOVERNMENT intervention and bailouts. Should we should get rid of Affirmative Action, Welfare, Free Education, Medicare, Public Police/Firemen, Social Security and all other "social" programs paid for by the gov't? Socialism exists in many forms/countries & plays an important role insuring basic rights for all which are necessary for "advancement".
