here's something ive always wondered, saturn and orion drums seem to be identical apart from 2 plys of walnut (which is more expensive than maple) so why are Saturn so much cheaper???
@Gaer1984 I think you're right.Mapex make a big deal about "north American" maple in there Orion series but just say Maple for there Saturn.Glad you cleared that up for me :)
Do I want to put together an order for Orion drums or Saturn drums? My gut feeling is I'll love the walnut interior ply inside the Saturns rather than just straight maple, but what do you think? Also, what kind of snare do you have? It's very musical and loud; like a marching drum.
Awesome sound Joe! I have a Mapex M-series and am looking at attaining this very sound! How big is the room you are playing in?? Keep it coming my rhythmic friend!
Nice video, great playing. One thing, though. While it is good to have a solo built around a common, central theme, I think your theme is a bit too common. I'm no solo master, but thats my advice.
perfect playing and perfect tuning the only thing i would change is the tightness of the snare wires. they are to tight. they make the snare sound choked. apart from that thumbs up
hey, just trying to work out where the mics are... im thinking 414s as overheads, re20s in the kicks, m201 on the hats, sm58s on the toms (odd choice, but sounds pretty decent...!), and im not sure where the sontronics condensor is (which one is it?), am i almost right?
PERFECT example of how great you can mic & mix a drum kit!
glad to find yet ANOTHER great drummer using the best production drum brand in the world.... MAPEX!
hope to see more videos from you soon.
it makes me laugh reading the comment section that people want to know what heads you are using because the drums sound so good. like that would cure thier sound troubles. cheers
can you give me any tips on tuning my toms and snare! I have a mapex M-birch 6 (3 rack tom, 1 floor tom, 20in bass) piece with new remo weathering ambassadors for the toms and a aquaran super kick 2 on the bass, but i cant seem to tune it right, i like how your set sounds, i can you give me some tips on how you tune yours
love the sound of your cymbals!!! starting from your left, can you pls. tell me ( the first four !)what size/model cymbals you are using? Paiste is obviously the brand
EXCELENTE VIDEO!!! Buen trabajo y el kit es espectacular.. Una pregunta como hacs para tner ese sonido en toms?? se alguien sabe.. yo tngo una Mapex Qr..
Cheers dude! I tune each head to the same relative pitch. I spend considerable time stretching the heads in and I start by tuning the bottom heads first.
Cheers dude, kind words very appreciated. No have never played in a marching band etc. I was endorsed by Mapex, not sure if the endorsement is still open ha ha, must check with them!
Cheers dude. This kit was a special order through Mapex UK, who are really good to deal with. I got the rack from Wembley drums, It's a Pearl. All cymbals except for the plash are Paiste (The splash is a UFIP)
