  • Sounds like a marching snare

  • here's something ive always wondered, saturn and orion drums seem to be identical apart from 2 plys of walnut (which is more expensive than maple) so why are Saturn so much cheaper???

  • @170adamb Because Orion has North-Americal maple, while Saturn has maple from Southeast Asia region or something like that.

  • @Gaer1984 I think you're right.Mapex make a big deal about "north American" maple in there Orion series but just say Maple for there Saturn.Glad you cleared that up for me :)

  • How do u get the hard sound from the snare?

  • that snare sounds soo dern good its crazy!

  • Hey man,

Our drummer has the same kit, just a lot less cymbols. I love the sound of your snare and toms. What skins do you use?

Also what are the hihats and china? brand and type.

    Cheers.

    Great vid by the way!!

  • Do I want to put together an order for Orion drums or Saturn drums? My gut feeling is I'll love the walnut interior ply inside the Saturns rather than just straight maple, but what do you think? Also, what kind of snare do you have? It's very musical and loud; like a marching drum.

  • Description says Sm58's but you must mean Sm57's right? most common mics ever both of them, but sm58 is more a live vocal mic isnt it?

  • i love mapex but there cymble stands are shit

  • the basses sound like shit, could be the heads or beaters!!

  • the toms soubds bomb.com, exellent tune.

  • how much did all that cost you.awesome drumming and kit

  • flawless snare

  • great sound

  • Fucking love that sound, amazing

  • Whats the configuration of this beast?

  • Awesome sound Joe! I have a Mapex M-series and am looking at attaining this very sound! How big is the room you are playing in?? Keep it coming my rhythmic friend!

  • that kit sounds great!

  • This is the proof of why I love mapex

even if the compression is good, dont let me die Orion set sounds awesome with and without mics

  • you use SM58's on all your toms??

    And what about bass drums?

  • Nice video, great playing. One thing, though. While it is good to have a solo built around a common, central theme, I think your theme is a bit too common. I'm no solo master, but thats my advice.

    Cheers and happy drumming!

  • Finally authentic drumming on youtube...Great playing man!Nice sound!

  • nice kit...but i cant stand snares like that

  • perfect playing and perfect tuning the only thing i would change is the tightness of the snare wires. they are to tight. they make the snare sound choked. apart from that thumbs up

  • This is some crazy rudimental drumming.

  • nice man! id have a blast on that set

  • how much it cost to make that whole kit

  • i have a MAPEX QR SERIES, i wanna know, it's a good drum ? because i havent played on it yet,,,

  • I use a Mapex M Birch But fuck I like the sound of these Orions! Nice job dude you kick ass!

  • @MinistryUndertaker69 Cheers dude, really appreciated! All the best, Joe

  • absolute perfect sound, i wish i could replicate that! perhaps a little too much reverb on the snare but anyway, outstanding.

  • @imortalsmile18 Cheers dude, yeah I did slap a little too much verb on the snare. Best Joe

  • I'm hearing too much Neil Peart Solo stuff , but other than that, good chops!

  • @robdrums69 Cheers dude, yeah must admit Peart is a big influence, what a great drummer and lyricist though. Cheers Joe

  • fantastic!

  • @NewDarkAges13 Nice one dude, very appreciated! All the best, Joe

  • the compression is unreal, i love that sound, fair play 5/5

  • @twentybensonplease Cheers dude, very appreciated! Cheers Joe

  • hey, just trying to work out where the mics are... im thinking 414s as overheads, re20s in the kicks, m201 on the hats, sm58s on the toms (odd choice, but sounds pretty decent...!), and im not sure where the sontronics condensor is (which one is it?), am i almost right?

  • maybe a room mic?

  • No there is no room mic, the reverberation has been added, I didn't get the time to put any room mic's up i'm afraid.

  • @imtay22 well it's clearly detailed in the description what mics are being used so, it's not a room mic :')

  • PERFECT example of how great you can mic & mix a drum kit!

glad to find yet ANOTHER great drummer using the best production drum brand in the world.... MAPEX!

hope to see more videos from you soon.

it makes me laugh reading the comment section that people want to know what heads you are using because the drums sound so good. like that would cure thier sound troubles. cheers

  • Cheers dude, thanks for your kind comments.

  • Remember that those toms are miked up so they will sound great. You dont mic your kit up to make it sound shit do you?

  • great toms!!

  • Oh, sry, clear ambassadors! I should read the comments befor asking...

  • Your toms sound great! Which heads you are using?

  • Remo clear ambassador on the toms, clear on the kicks and coated on the snare. Cheers Joe

  • LMAO I JUST BOUGHT THE ORION I PAID CASH USED THOUGHT 750$ best kit ever

  • lucky beast

  • probly the most nicest kit i have heard!

  • nice toms :O

  • Cheers dude!

  • Mapex all the way !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BornToDRum96.... tama starclassic bubinga elite all the way

  • The first snaredrum-thing is inspired by Mike Portnoy? Isn`t it?

  • Not intentionally but I do like Portnoy he's a top drummer! Cheers Joe

  • @drumclanc

    Okey : )

    Yeah, he`s a technical monster!

Not my favorite, but he`s great...

  • snare sounds like shit,

  • Sorry you don't like it, but I do agree I could have got a better sound! Maybe next time? Cheers Joe

  • wish i could play ghost notes that good :(

  • im gettin this kit for my b'day :O yay!!

  • hey

do you know the snare model?

    its sounds amazing

  • Glad you like the Snare, it's a Mapex 6.5 deep Maple snare. Cheers Joe

  • Is it just me or those the snare sound like birch....actually the whole kit. Perhaps the bearing edges are round, not 45 or double 45.

  • TOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • Bah... I don't think I will ever be this good lol

Time to start practicing I guess!

  • can you give me any tips on tuning my toms and snare! I have a mapex M-birch 6 (3 rack tom, 1 floor tom, 20in bass) piece with new remo weathering ambassadors for the toms and a aquaran super kick 2 on the bass, but i cant seem to tune it right, i like how your set sounds, i can you give me some tips on how you tune yours

    correct?

  • how much did this set cost and where did u get it? :D

  • Hi, I got the kit from Mapex, it was specially ordered. Cost me around 4K

  • sounds like a bargain for the amount of drums you got

  • 4K NOT including the cymbals, right?

  • way more than that! 4K for the bass drums!

  • Cheers dude!

  • EXCELENTE VIDEO!!! Buen trabajo y el kit es espectacular.. Una pregunta como hacs para tner ese sonido en toms?? se alguien sabe.. yo tngo una Mapex Qr..

  • Cheers dude. I don't 'Disturbed' but will give them a listen.

  • down with the sickness* lol

  • What amp are you using to bring out the micced sound?

  • Hi dude, not using any amp, the drums are multitracked to Pro Tools

  • So, it goes:

    mics ----> mixer ---> computer?

  • i've got pro tools! its an amazing softwhare !

  • nice kit man how long have you been playing?

  • Cheers dude, quite a long time now, 20 years or so

  • Cheers dude

  • Great Job :)))) Amazing!

  • Cheers dude.

  • the snare drum sounds like a marching snare drum in the beginning. a little to dry for my taste.

  • and I suppose you could do better, right?

  • I would like to hear the drums in a musical context because i really love the roundess of your small toms

  • Okay cheers dude.

  • That is an absolutley gorgeous kit.

  • cheers dude, glad you like it.

  • saludos desde coahuila mexico.

  • muy buen video, la resonancia de los toms y tarola es exelente 3:23 - 3:51 me gusto mucho el ritmo jeje

  • This is amazing! How do you tune your drums to sound so freaking awesome? 5/5

  • Cheers dude! I tune each head to the same relative pitch. I spend considerable time stretching the heads in and I start by tuning the bottom heads first.

  • his set sounds SOOO GOOD, i drum mapex too but i got a m-birch and its not cutting it.

  • Cheers dude. The Mapex M series kits are cool dude.

  • What kind of hardware did you use?

  • Hi, I'm using Mapex hardware on a pearl rack.

  • that has got to be one of the best snares i have heard in my life

  • Cheers dude, glad you like it.

  • i was thinking the whole kit was amazing!

  • Cheers dude!

  • I played pearl, okay

    I played tama, okay

  • hese drums are amazing im gonna get them when im good enough

  • Yeah cool, I certainly recommend Mapex they are great drums.

  • whats good bout em ?i might get a mapex!

  • Your snare playing is awsome, are you in a marching Band too or so? Btw are you endorser ?

Great Vid by the way! Awsome !

  • Cheers dude, kind words very appreciated. No have never played in a marching band etc. I was endorsed by Mapex, not sure if the endorsement is still open ha ha, must check with them!

  • dude you are awesome!, did you get all of the toms as extras or did they come all together? nice drumming\!

  • Cheers dude. This kit was a special order through Mapex UK, who are really good to deal with. I got the rack from Wembley drums, It's a Pearl. All cymbals except for the plash are Paiste (The splash is a UFIP)

  • i love all ur vids but i think its better rear view cuz we can see u hitting the kit rather then more of listening then seeing from the front

  • Cheers dude. Will hopefully get a new vid sorted in the next month or so, and yeah will try to get some cool angles sorted.

  • k thanks

  • mmh. i would tune them higher. but i like the sound.

  • Exelente ;)

    *****

  • Thank you very much

  • That's exactly why I bought an Orion last year but you make it sounds so much better... I don't have your talent nor your hands / feet coordination but I enjoy it everytime I play. Mapex rules!

  • Hey Joe, I'm interested in pursuing a career as a sound engineer. Whoever mic'd up your set seems to really know their stuff and I was just wondering if you could tell me where they went to college or got their education in audio engineering?

  • Hi, I set up the mics with a good friend for this session.

  • outstanding drumming mate=)

what's the price of ur kit?

  • Cheers for the kind comments. I spent quite a bit on this kit but it cost me less than buying it from a shop as Mapex were kind enough to give me an endorsement at the time, so I paid about half pice. Can't remember exact figure.

  • how do you get them to give you an endorsement? did you send a vid of you playing?

  • nice work . whats the name of mics that u used with bass drum

the price of this kit totally with cosumize that u used

my final qustion do advice me to buy Mapex or Tama new seiries? i play drums for almost 2 years . in a thrash metal band ,

sorry for my bad english . waiting for ur answer brother

    cheers

  • Cheers dude, thanks for your kind comment. The microphones on the Bass drums are Electrovoice RE 20's. I wished I had placed them a little better, time was against me! I would say in answer to your question about Tama or Mapex try both and see which you prefer? Tama make some great kits as do Mapex. If I were you I would try as many different kits in your price range as possible, it's all personal preference. Cheers Joe

  • thanx my friend for ur comment the main problem is that i live in Iraq and as u know the bad setuation . its damn hard to get good or brand new drum kit here thats why i asked u coz maybe i will try to order online for somthing fits for my needs

if u have an idea about a drums fits for metal stuffs with cost between 700$ to 1000$ i will be very apriciated to get information from u

thnx any way and sorry for disturbing u with my comments and qustions

    Greeting from Baghdad

  • i can't decide whether to get a mapex m birch with fancy cymbals or saturn with normal ones.

    advice?

btw, your set is beautiful. I can't afford it, though.

  • Hi Pablo,

Well what I would say is try them both and see which you prefer. I know the M Birch series sound really good. As for cymbals take some time and be prepared to listen to lots of different sizes and models etc. I really Paiste cymbals but it really does come down to personal choice. All the best, enjoy trying as much as possible. Cheers Joe

  • is that the pearl icon rack?

  • Cheers Dude

  • Specs?

  • Hi, The kit is a Mapex Custom Orion. The rack toms are 8", 10" 12" 14" and Floor toms 16" & 18". The snare is 14x6.5 and the two kicks are both 22". The cymbals are all Paiste (Rude, signia and 2002). Hope that answers your question. Cheers Joe
