  • EPIC

  • This kind of feels like a celebration of the original to me, I don't know how to explain it

  • @AFunyun Clarifying, I feel like this remix is kind of like the scene in a movie where the old guy comes back and kicks everyone's ass and you want him to win because he's awesome. The old guy is the original Dead Feelings.

  • Did you lay this on top of the XM playing in the main part? Or is the stuff carried over from the XM and played with MIDI instruments?

  • @AFunyun Some of the stuff is sampled from Fasttracker 2 but most of it was just me playing the parts again in my sequencer using various soft synths :).

  • loud drums ruin the remix

  • @nullcher Nullcher. You are now offcially LAME. You just dissed one of the best songs in the world.

  • Nice version! I need to tell you something regarding the original of this tune. I'll send you a personal message.

  • nar ska vi spela CP halflife carter?

  • @majkiz84 Går det få igång skiten i Steam? Hoppas! Borde ju det

  • Ahh so that's why it's called pan pizza edit

  • After listening to this song for a few days I'm beginning to like this version even more than the original chiptune.

  • Say, trackerfiles are similar to midi, aren't they?

Would it be possible to make a midifile from this and remake it with complete new soundfonts?

The reason, I'd redo it with midi is, that trackers use low quality samples which are also overdriven.

Also, making a midi from this would make remixing easier. :D

  • @Bluedino549 In a way yes, but unlike MIDI the MOD files contain all the information necessary to play the song - in this case the samples. MIDI files only contains the note information, and similar, and will sound different depending on what equipment played on. MODs sound the same everywhere, if tusing a proper player. MOD files are restricted to 8-bit samples, but more modern formats are not and can be as high quality as you want. They are not necessarily overdriven either :).

  • @Bluedino549 This remix was done using only modern equipment using a modern MIDI sequencer (Logic Pro) and mixed in 48khz 24bits and then downsampled to the more common format 44khz/16bit.

  • @JimWalshified Oh thanks for the information! :D

  • This remix is really cool. It almost has techno/trance influences.

    I like it.

    But the original is cooler.

  • @BladeUYA Yeah, the original is more hardcore chip-sounding, which is nicer. I like the beat in this one though! :)

  • @JimWalshified Is there a place I can get an XM or MOD of this? Or was this tracked in a more modern tracker that outputs in MP3?

    (Like fruity loops?)

  • @BladeUYA There is the XM file of the original version at modarchive , just search for df97.xm. As for the remix, I made that one in a modern sequencer so there is no XM or MOD of that :).

  • @JimWalshified Oh ok. That's what I figured.

Also, sorry to be a pest but your the first person who knows what their doing with tracking that I've gotten to talk to (Plus your cool). I downloaded the MOD and the XM and I noticed a difference. The MOD's stereo separation is different and it sounds less "complicated." Why is that?

  • @BladeUYA No problem at all :). Most MOD players still adhere to the way MOD files had to be played the Amiga. It had 4 hardware channels that could play 8-bit samples, they were split up 2/2 over the physical LEFT and RIGHT outputs on the machine. So, you would have 2 channels in the left speaker and two in the right. I suggest playing MOD files with a player that can set the stereo separation to 25% or something, more than that sounds confusing I think. Also, disable interpolation :).

  • @BladeUYA As for the MOD/XM, the XM-file is 6 channels while the MOD file is 4 so I had more room to do stuff in the XM version. The XM format also supports a lot of new effects that the MOD format didn't, like panning, a separate volume control and ADSR envelopes for samples (and a bunch of other stuff).

  • @BladeUYA And thirdly, as I was writing this song I was still learning how to write music, and chip music in particular. So I had gotten better at writing more intricate stuff as I went the XM remix. If you listen to my earlier stuff you can hear its mostly crap up until around this point.

  • @JimWalshified Oh ok. Thanks for being patient with my endless questions.

  • @JimWalshified Cool! Thanks for being patient with my endless questions.

  • @BladeUYA No problem at all, I enjoy spreading the chip music gospel! :)

  • @JimWalshified Is there a place I can get an XM or MOD of this? Or was this tracked in a more modern tracker that outputs in MP3?

    (Like fruity loops?)

Also have you created anymore songs?

  • I love this just as much as the original, and to be frank they easily two of my most favorite chiptune songs

  • @HO1ySh33t Thank you very much, it is always nice to hear that my old stuff is appreciated! Thanks for the comment! :)

  • haha vad dum ja är

har haft "CORE - dead feelings.mp3" i min favorit mp3-mapp i typ 2 år utan att inse att det är din låt :P

  • This isn't bad at all or anything, but there's something about the original that I love.

  • @lesliekwan80 This remix seems to split people up in two camps. Some seem to think it was uncalled for in the first place since the original is "special", and some seem to love the new over-the-top elements in the remix :). Actually, as I was putting this into place I was also going "Uhm, maybe I shouldn't be doing this" but then breaking out into an evil laughter when I listened to some of the new passages I've completed. Either way, thanks for listening :)

  • epic carter!

glömmer aldrig dygnet runt programmering i din källare typ 96?

  • @mehmartiituunnn Haha, många fina rutiner blev det. Bäst var dock nog vårt BBS-program i QBasic, oslagbart! Anarko, Anoid, Virus! Din Morsa! Ahhh...

  • good remix, but i dont think it beats the original. Original is just too pure.
