I think the major purpose of lings in ZvZ (once you have a good cluster of mutas) is to distract your opponent's mutas so you can get free hits on them. Hyuk's were half-wasted since he spent so much time away from the main body of lings.

there is a really good writing about this match in Fomos so I will translate it.

4:26 Hyuk takes minor edge by turning overlord back as soon as he checks Jaedong's lair timing while Jaedong turns his overlord back in 4:56.

with that 30 sec one can see diffrence in overlord position in 6:21. One can see that Jaedong's muta head directly to Hyuk's base while Hyuk heads straight for stray overlord. With Fantastic micro Hyuk take's down Jaedong's overlord.

now Jaedong has 100 mineral deficit which is huge in Z v Z; however their overall air force is similar so with good micro Jaedong had chance to take this match neverthless. Between 7:00~ 7:06 take a closer look at minimap you should able to see Jaedong's hatched muta flying toward the battle but to wrong rally point. So Jaedong is forced to move battle field slightly to bottom and taking maybe .5 hit timing deficit. However, Jaedong masses up micro probably because of pressure from overlord kill

Jaedong to overcome muta battle loss takes fast expansion and puts 4 drones at gas as cholera says. Hyuk tries to take advantage of his mineral advantage by producing more lings but as we can see he loses most of lings in micro mistake; however hyuk pulls one brilliant micro in muta battle. If you look closely between 9:58 and 10:01, you can see a Jaedong's muta coming from bottom.

Hyuk hits Jaedong's group mutals first hit which hit Jaedong's lone muta in bouncing hit then Hyuk focuses fire on the lone muta and takes it out. Advantage Hyuk. However because it is Jaedong's base Jaedong should be able to match muta count with additional muta from hatch. However 10:16 oh noes it is lings now Hyuk has definite muta advantage and it is his game to win unless he makes any stupid mistakes.
