I really wanted to like Darkfall. While playing the trial, a friend and I were noobing around hunting monsters when suddenly a fucking red dragon came out of nowhere and killed us. When we went to go get our loot, we were surprised to find no one had taken it. Then less than 4 minutes later, the red dragon came back and killed us again on our way back to noob-ville. And then it happened AGAIN.

Everyone that was following it knows that it had a rough launch and they probably did their best. As it stands today its the best pvp game I know of and its massive fun, so no, the game didnt failed as it looked like it would. Today we had awesome patch and third expansion is already coming.

You want a disaster try waiting a few years for Spellborn, that wasn't just a disaster it was a total fuck job by Acclaim. Sadly Spellborn had a pretty damn decent pvp system, now Acclaim as i predicted took over the game, and in turned turned it into an Asian FTP cash cow. It's now in perma demo mode waiting for re release, which will or may never happen, sadly its a barren wasteland.. but it was a damn whole lot better than WOW.

@rexmank The graphics are NOT better than wow, they are different, WoW has a somewhat cartoony feel about the graphics whereas DF is trying to make the graphics feel as real as possible.
There are alot of things about Darkfall graphics that are good, and likeable, and there are alot of things about the WoW graphics that run ALOT smoother than DF.
Wow is alot more user friendly, its an easier game to wrap your head around, its an easier game to enjoy.

Darkfall is a huge disaster. After having played the game for 3 months quiting and then coming back and quiting again I'm convinced that this is the worst game ever made. Just when you think you're about to have fun it ripped away from you as well as everything you own and you're left with nothing and a very empty feeling. Its a waste of time unless you live in your mom's basement and have 12+ hours a day to play.

that's a testament to how terrible the launch was... but yes there is... a lot of people don't realize it is AA3 because most people thought AA2 was the first as it was far more publicized than its predecessor... also AA2 remains the most popular due to the many faults with AA3, AA2 has a unique dynamic to it that helps it retain its popularity, AA3 looses this singularity and becomes a weak attempt at a COD style game... i guess this is akin to many gamers playing CS over more advanced games.
last but not least... The game is pretty much DEAD already, it will take you HOURS to find people on the map by yourself if you are a solo pvper, but EVEN if you do find someone it is likely that they will tower hug or call in help so they can kill you and then send you hate tells of how much of a newb you are. It is funny tho because everyone is like this, so again... if you are a solo pvper there is a good fucking chance you will get rocked every fucking day you play this game :)
new to the game... there is only ONE way you will be able to match vets in PVP, and that's by macroing or exploiting however, these offences are bannable now and if someone reports you auto running against a wall, you are banned for 3 days, after that bank wipe then perm banned. Cool huh? No problems tho bro, if you plan on playing this game for a good 15-20 years you might be able to catch up with the vets that have 350+ or maxed HP and skills :)
Don't even get me started with the "specs" for this game. Even tho the graphics sucks, and say you have a battle of 50 vs 50 people (usually the right number), you will LAG and disconnect frequently and lose all your shit because of how crappy the servers are. I remember when we did a big battle (150-150) or something similar to that and EVERYONE, or everyone that didn't have a super computer (5k+ gaming PC) crashed to desktop and then found themselves dead or half dead in the battlefield.
The "sieges" are a completely fail in this game. Everything turns server vs clan or server vs alliance. There is no such thing as clan vs clan or alliance vs alliance. After most of the exploits been fixed, there are people out there with fuckin maxed out chars that can rape you in 3-5 hits depending on what you wear. At the start of this game you WILL be forced to join a big clan or alliance because you will NOT be able to play the game by yourself, you will get FUCKED hard.
Warning to everyone that wants to try this game: new characters CANNOT, I repeat CANNOT fight against vet players in the game that have been around for couple of months. At the start of this game, everyone exploited and macro'd the SHIT out of their characters and MAXED all the necessary skills/spells required to be an extreme PVPer and rape everyone they see. However, after many months of fails the devs finally "fixed" most of these exploits and have decided that macroin is bannable offence.

Its just like Shadowbane in some ways. Shadowbane is still alive but as far as i know the damn Koreans rule the game. Its an open PVP server with mostly America vs Korea but some of our former guilds went to there side. But this was a year ago so im not sure what is like now. But the game is free you can check it out. It is old and very Complicated lol

Macs aren't for MMO gaming, I'll admit that. But they are high-performance, more user-friendly, and the customer support is 10x better than PC. Plus, they're generally well-built computers in general.

You want a disaster try waiting a few years for Spellborn, that wasn't just a disaster it was a total fuck job by Acclaim. Sadly Spellborn had a pretty damn decent pvp system, now Acclaim as i predicted took over the game, and in turned turned it into an Asian FTP cash cow. It's now in perma demo mode waiting for re release, which will or may never happen, sadly its a barren wasteland.. but it was a damn whole lot better than WOW.

Timeinvestment > Playerskill
Mostly Gear and Characterstats/skills-dependant game.
Full loot - you die you lose it big effing deal.
Everything is easily replacable.
Fun Combat-system that requires actual aiming , dodging , reflexes and pretty much a brain in order to outplay someone.
Regarding timecommitment this is NOT for casual players.
This game is for you if you got a shitload of time nerves and humor to take it easy.

@rexmank The graphics are NOT better than wow, they are different, WoW has a somewhat cartoony feel about the graphics whereas DF is trying to make the graphics feel as real as possible.
There are alot of things about Darkfall graphics that are good, and likeable, and there are alot of things about the WoW graphics that run ALOT smoother than DF.
Wow is alot more user friendly, its an easier game to wrap your head around, its an easier game to enjoy.
Darkfall, however, presents a challenge.

Darkfall is a huge disaster. After having played the game for 3 months quiting and then coming back and quiting again I'm convinced that this is the worst game ever made. Just when you think you're about to have fun it ripped away from you as well as everything you own and you're left with nothing and a very empty feeling. Its a waste of time unless you live in your mom's basement and have 12+ hours a day to play.

that's a testament to how terrible the launch was... but yes there is... a lot of people don't realize it is AA3 because most people thought AA2 was the first as it was far more publicized than its predecessor... also AA2 remains the most popular due to the many faults with AA3, AA2 has a unique dynamic to it that helps it retain its popularity, AA3 looses this singularity and becomes a weak attempt at a COD style game... i guess this is akin to many gamers playing CS over more advanced games.

The game is pretty much DEAD already, it will take you HOURS to find people on the map by yourself if you are a solo pvper, but EVEN if you do find someone it is likely that they will tower hug or call in help so they can kill you and then send you hate tells of how much of a newb you are. It is funny tho because everyone is like this, so again... if you are a solo pvper there is a good fucking chance you will get rocked every fucking day you play this game :)

new to the game... there is only ONE way you will be able to match vets in PVP, and that's by macroing or exploiting however, these offences are bannable now and if someone reports you auto running against a wall, you are banned for 3 days, after that bank wipe then perm banned. Cool huh? No problems tho bro, if you plan on playing this game for a good 15-20 years you might be able to catch up with the vets that have 350+ or maxed HP and skills :)

Don't even get me started with the "specs" for this game. Even tho the graphics sucks, and say you have a battle of 50 vs 50 people (usually the right number), you will LAG and disconnect frequently and lose all your shit because of how crappy the servers are. I remember when we did a big battle (150-150) or something similar to that and EVERYONE, or everyone that didn't have a super computer (5k+ gaming PC) crashed to desktop and then found themselves dead or half dead in the battlefield.

The "sieges" are a completely fail in this game. Everything turns server vs clan or server vs alliance. There is no such thing as clan vs clan or alliance vs alliance. After most of the exploits been fixed, there are people out there with fuckin maxed out chars that can rape you in 3-5 hits depending on what you wear. At the start of this game you WILL be forced to join a big clan or alliance because you will NOT be able to play the game by yourself, you will get FUCKED hard.

Warning to everyone that wants to try this game: new characters CANNOT, I repeat CANNOT fight against vet players in the game that have been around for couple of months. At the start of this game, everyone exploited and macro'd the SHIT out of their characters and MAXED all the necessary skills/spells required to be an extreme PVPer and rape everyone they see. However, after many months of fails the devs finally "fixed" most of these exploits and have decided that macroin is bannable offence.

Its just like Shadowbane in some ways. Shadowbane is still alive but as far as i know the damn Koreans rule the game. Its an open PVP server with mostly America vs Korea but some of our former guilds went to there side. But this was a year ago so im not sure what is like now. But the game is free you can check it out. It is old and very Complicated lol

SB was shutdown after going F2P but will be relaunched in 2010.

The issue w/ buying this game sucks. But at the same time, this is one of those problems that proves the popularity of the game and one that they pry want to have

Those issues havent exsisted in along time. Its easy to buy the game now. Every MMO ever has had a shitty launch. Darkfall Is Shittons better now then when it came out(was in beta and thier on launch day) All the desync issues alot of bugs have been squished. Now its about balancing the skills and adding new content(which they are doing) Saddly I had to quit end of August cuz I have a GF now lol. Anyways Nobody care about what this UO Has been has to say

Hehe I im also a UO has been. Difference is this guy thinks he was basiclly owed an account on Day one because he was a big gold/item seller in UO. The only real reason he wanted to "Play" DF is so he could sell gold and items. At least thats the way it seems from what i know of the guy
