She's absolutely right. The new policy was based on trafficking figures that have repeatedly been shown to be based on pure guesswork. Laws against prostitution, whether they directly criminalise sex workers or not, invariably make them even more vulnerable. We've seen it in countries all over the world.
The only true prostitution going on in this country is spokespeople like Brookes taking blood money from the trafficking industry to make illogical speeches defending their paymasters' rights to go out and partake in rape and torture.
I suspect I am not the one who is not listening. I could argue that if you spent more time battling the issue instead of having a go at someone on the same side as you, this may no longer be an issue.
I guess I just come from an era when people knew how to debate with manners.
Birkbeck psychology department know more about the state of play of trafficking over real researchers in the field?
She mentions a "small percentage of trafficked women", how does she know it's small? And, even if it were, which it isn't, where's her empathy/sympathy?
Another sexually abused psychopath who resents the protection of other women.
If UK prostitution had nothing to do with trafficking the Bill would be unreasonable: thats her schtick
I don't see how insulting Ms Brookes-Gordon "names names" actually. No, I am not an arbiter at all, but I think people weaken their argument when they resort to insults. Makes them sound shrewish when actually some good points were being made. Never been to a ladies coffee morning, but I am sure there are other places where good manners prevail.
I don't agree with Ms Brooks-Gordon either, Moonaharshmistress, and I found her comments regarding a disabled man and a prostitute nauseating. I worked briefly on the Russian trafficking scene and am astounded by arguments that it does not exist. However, I don't think insulting someone who has differing views adds to the argument at all. Your other remarks were good enough.
Lol..you are the arbiter of what can be said, or the manner in which it can be said?
We're supposed to be polite, like a ladies coffee morning?
No thanks.
If you have worked on the Russian trafficking scene, then you will be aware of how the Uk trafficking scene works..and you will also be aware that the only way it cn be rooted out is by naming names and by saying what needs to be said.
to say the main losers of anti-trafficking measures are disabled men is absolute slander..handicapped organisations(inc, student) should speak out against this despicable conflation of their sexuality/sex needs with the needs of murderous pimps.
And, whats more, if you are so convinced the law is impossible to police, then why you so worried about it, you illogical cunt.
Thank you for your reply. But it does not give you the right to call the man "Stupid" and make comments about New Labour. That was party political. I know who you are and I don't particularly agree with your stance on the trafficking issue but you have the right to say it. What you don't have the right to do is belittle someone who has just left and cannot defend hiimself. However qualified you are that was most unprofessional.
I attended an evening where Ms Brooks-Gordon was one of the speakers. She began her speech by being most unprofessional and, frankly, rude about the previous speaker. Clearly she disagreed but when I saw she is also a Liberal Democrat Councillor, I realised she was making a cheap political point. Furthermore, she dismisses everyone else's opinion quite aggressively and tries to make them looks foolish. The result was that she simply looked bad-mannered, I am afraid.
Shes thick..how she get a PhD? Sleep with the same vice-chancellor as Brooke magnanti?
Birkbeck psychology dept is supposed to be an esteemed developmental psychology unit with a committment to intellectualism: What on earth does "drive it underground" mean..pimping is neither legal nor prosecuted coupled with no regulation, the loophole of which results in trafficking .
She quotes radical separatist feminism as pushing forward anti-trafficking measures..which is bizarre. Ive never heard a separitist feminist even mention trafficking. Name one Belinda.
The law was pushed through by Smith Harman Coaker etc.
Also, as for privacy rights, ones sex life ceases to be private matter once a crime is committed, this includes rape and child sex abuse..rape and sex abuse are indeed manifestations of human sexuality, but they are crime, so not protected by HR Act.
You say you are a researcher, but do you think you have done more research on this topic than the Home Office, the victims/survivors, or the politicians who have to hear these harrowing stories and take action since they cannot claim plausable deniabilty(unlike punters, escort agents, and second-hand researchers).
If so, what an arrogant woman you are. A true bottom feeder of the industry.
@ 0.42 get your pre-scripted metaphor straight you useless shit - bay-sick-leee.

You don't see how insulting Brookes names names? Well, thats a shame..if you listened properly instead of censoring you might learn something.
