Final fantasy is far too busy being obtuse and different to be readily comparable to anything other than previous final fantasy games. If you've ever played gauntlet or X men legends the mechanics should be. Familiar. The story is what really sells it though. buy it new so you can get some nice DLC along with it.

I liked Dragon Age 2 better. BUT... after playing it I decided to replay Origins again and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did the first time. I think that's because the writing in DA2 is tighter and a lot of things introduced in Origins make more sense now. If you decide to pick up Origins (for the first time or again) save some money and get a used copy of the expanded edition that includes Awakenings and all of the other DLC for under $30.

My tips are: 1) tweak your characters' Combat Tactics whenever you get stuck on some enemy; 2) have a plan as to what you want your characters to be (don't just spend skill points, talent points, etc. on a whim); and 3) spam the 'radial menu', lol.
I was hooked by the battle of ostagar (very first big darkspawn attack) but that was on PC, I would say though that you append "360" or "console version" to this review, since if I had it for xbox I'd come off none too keen on it as well. The interface and control scheme is at odds with the strategic gameplay, a bit too jarring for me.

I love this game, it's different. It holds your hand, but at the same time, it throws you into the lake while it gets drunk with it's buddies and you try to either get to shore or climb back in...by which i mean, if you get your hands on the boat, it will stomp on your hands and laugh at you for a while, then pick you out of the water and hug you and say "see, i told you, you could do it on your own, im so proud."

I played dragon age 2 demo and it was the first time i ever played dragon age game. i didn't know you can manually attack by pressing the attack button. i thought the game was an rpg where the characters automatically attack. can you manually attack also in the first game dragon age origins?
@AgentCell Every battle encountered in this review was played manually, you are able to switch between characters and command them the way you like, attack who you want, use any skills you want, etc. This game was truly amazing, that's why i pre-ordered Dragon Age 2 in December. Lol I'm so psyched, Dragon Age 2 ftw!

@DaSeal510 yeah you dont really have to give your teamates commands, you just have to make sure they dont die and have good armor and weapons, and you can control your partners too if you want
even though i had the option to buy this on pc i managed to find a copy of the console version to be cheaper, a rare opportunity to get it brand new. i like the comfort of console gaming but it doesnt hide the fact that pc gaming is far superior, it's highly recommended to get this for pc if you like to be more tactical, i still treat both my pc and consoles equal.
This is one of the most overrated games I've seen recently and you hint at the reason why -- the cutscenes. You spend more time watching and being interrupted by cutscenes than you spend playing the game. I played about 10 or 12 hours into it and just got completely annoyed and frustrated by the constant interruption. I was afraid to skip them for fear I might missing something important. If they removed about 80% of the cutscenes and concentrated on gameplay, this would be a great game.
@Roadstar1602 There are not THAT many cutscenes in the game. Compare the amount in this game to the total runtime of cutscenes in any of the MGS games and the time you spent watching cutscens in Dragon Age doesn't seem so long. And this is a high fantasy rpg so of course there's going to be a good amount of exposition.
i think this type of game would make an epic MMO, hell, DC universe is very similar in that its a real time action MMO, but the way the party system in this works along with the combat, it would be amazing

It was about King Marric and Loghain uniting Ferelden against the Orlesians that enslaved them. this has an interesting genre actually, apparently its dark fantasy RPG, which is understandable considering how much blood there is when you poke a genlock in the eye with a toothpick
After I was done playing this, I let my younger sister borrow it. She never played it, but my parents got a hold of it and got addicted. My dad played through it like 10 times and bought the expansion and all the DLC. It's hilarious because my parents aren't really big gamers.

even though i had the option to buy this on pc i managed to find a copy of the console version to be cheaper, a rare opportunity to get it brand new. i like the comfort of console gaming but it doesnt hide the fact that pc gaming is far superior, it's highly recommended to get this for pc if you like to be more tactical, i still treat both my pc and consoles equal.

This is one of the most overrated games I've seen recently and you hint at the reason why -- the cutscenes. You spend more time watching and being interrupted by cutscenes than you spend playing the game. I played about 10 or 12 hours into it and just got completely annoyed and frustrated by the constant interruption. I was afraid to skip them for fear I might missing something important. If they removed about 80% of the cutscenes and concentrated on gameplay, this would be a great game.

@Roadstar1602 There are not THAT many cutscenes in the game. Compare the amount in this game to the total runtime of cutscenes in any of the MGS games and the time you spent watching cutscens in Dragon Age doesn't seem so long. And this is a high fantasy rpg so of course there's going to be a good amount of exposition.

i think this type of game would make an epic MMO, hell, DC universe is very similar in that its a real time action MMO, but the way the party system in this works along with the combat, it would be amazing

@seeker723 actually they did do a book based on the story before this. It was about King Marric and Loghain uniting Ferelden against the Orlesians that enslaved them. this has an interesting genre actually, apparently its dark fantasy RPG, which is understandable considering how much blood there is when you poke a genlock in the eye with a toothpick

After I was done playing this, I let my younger sister borrow it. She never played it, but my parents got a hold of it and got addicted. My dad played through it like 10 times and bought the expansion and all the DLC. It's hilarious because my parents aren't really big gamers.

@BlackShunk mmm...... idk, like. 50 hours :D well thats if you ONLY do the main story line without doing anything else. but lmao will that happen! im about 100 hours in and, not even done the story line yet. actually i got ultimate edition, andi didnt do any of the dlc stuff yet. plus theres the awakening expansion so even more time. yeah. it will take up lotsa time.
