It works if you say: vas a la direccio ... (name) means: are you going to...
I don't know if I'm spelling right, but it worked for me:P most people react when you're talking in their language even if it isn't very much

Found it incredibly hard to hitchhike spain, hope you got out!

Eventually!! Waited hours for a lift in that place!! Was 1000% easier when I got to france!!!
