when i was young a friend of mine had one like that called a firecat 5 spd with shifter on the bar which made it very dangerous jumping ramps made of cinder blocks and plt wood this was mid 1970's
I felt exactly the same. My first one was 2nd hand, resprayed matt silver, Anyway, I got a '76 Mk2 last year and put a suspension seat post on it (£20) to make the seat go Higher and Plastic ties stop the sissy bar from coming out. I ride it with flat soled trainers. I sprayed it all over, inside and out with GT85 spray and it's come up lovely. People Love it. You gotta get that one cleaned n running Mate : ) Don't take yer eyes off it for a second tho. Happy 2010
I had one those Bloke, it was yellow! with the round gearstick sturmey archer 3 speed gears, handled like a pig at speed, heavy to pedal (lots of hills in Yorkshire!) Great for doing wheelies! and carrying your mates on the back but would spit you off if you touched the front brake!
Sadly had to sell it to get another bike, still got £20 for it in 1978. Probably worth £200+ now. Raleigh also made a 5 speed version with deralier gears and drop handle bars but I cant remember what i was called?
That the chopper junior, it's not the full sized Chooper. I had the full sized one when I was 9 back in the day. had loads of fun. I found that one in the back of the barn two years ago and hid it deeper in Dave's barn so no one would find it.. for a while...
Lovely story Chris. The told childhood disappointment sounded quite serous and worse still it amplified your lust for that bike. If I were you I'd cleaned that bike, and keep it as a long delayed childhood souvenir. Beside, it doesn't have to be perfect, because it's not for sale, yet it can be a long term project of love. If you take it apart and remove the rust, there are companies who recrome the needed parts relatively inexpensively, you just need to shop around.
I have Family is from Britian on my dad's side. My dad often talks to me about his school days and how he was cained and strapped across the hands by his head master.
I always wanted a BMX when I was a kid then they come out with a similar bike that had the spokes covered by plastic discs those were awsome at the time. We were poor growing up so I always got second hand bikes myself and fixed them but being poor like that and having to garbage pick taught me so much and helped me know what I know now. One mans junk is another mans treasure!
nice i love ur story me and my dad built custom choppers we'd take 3 or 4 bikes cut them up and make stretched bikes i had one that was 16 feet long with huge ape hanger handlebars and a custom banana seat it was kool wish i still had it 2 show every one i had a drag bike 2 the front was stretched out 2 feet had 2 lean way forward it was great bing a kid thanks 4 a trip down memory lane buddy!!!!!!!!!
i think its a chopperbike here in sweden a boy riding on... its so low... and a moped more like o lowchopper but little shorter, and so fast and loud...
:-)
go on bloke love ur vids. ur english is so perfect. :-)
I had no idea that they sold Choppers in Canada! There's a bike shop down the road from me in Westcliff-on-Sea which sells Choppers. I don't know if they are new or restored, but they're nice all the same :)
Really? That's pretty cool. I'm waiting for Raleigh to come out with a repro of the Grifter, which was a kind of BMX/Chopper cross-over and looked really tough :)
great bike bloke my gramps got me one of those from the tip many years ago, couple of new inner tubes and it was good as new, i spent many happy hours tearing up the neighbourhood in it
yea i had 2 of then when i was a kid back in the late 70s to erly 80s thay where good at doing wheeles and there worth a few quid now but have to be mint to be woth anything
I had the American version of that bike. I had to share it with my brothers so it was wasted in no time. We did sell it about 10 yrs ago for about $100.
Very cool story British Bloke.. your voice is totally cool. I do a lot of orchestral scoring and stuff...you can ask Dave about that... Would love you to do some voice over stuff...Send me a message...Yeah glasses are cool :)
there's never to much wrong with something if you really love it or have waited your whole life you should fix it i'm sure dave won't mind if you tell him the story
my uncle used to have one of these..... and i even got to ride it once :)

Don't think so looking at the pics on Google. The Vektar was the iconic 80's bike that had a speedo, gears, radio and sound effects. It's on youtube.
