i just got a 2 kershaw scallion and you cant beat the factory edge............................................... i can get the old scallion shaving sharp but not scary sharp like the factory edge
Okay Guys believe it or not. I've always sharpened knives on traditional bench stones or diamond stones. Well, I was at my local Lowes hardware store and i was picking up some hone oil, and a 6" arkansa stone. and i found a Smiths Pocket Pal sharpener. It will get any dull knife to a razor edge. Like...Beard shaving sharp. You can always get something sharper on a bench stone. But it is a must for any survival kit or just to carry in case your blades go dull.
yoooo! could u please make a video about which stones and stuff u use to get a razor sharp edge and which grit u use to get the final razor sharp edge on ur knives
I have three carry knives. The one I like the best is the Spyderco Endura Wave 4 due to the Wave feature. VG-10 SS. SOG Flash II has AUS 8 SS. Byrd 'Cara Cara' has 8Cr13MoV.
Only unused except the Endura Wave.
Others passed my paper test easily. Wave, not so good. Sharpmaker set @30 degrees, many times Step 4. I believe Endura Wave out of box would have passed easily too. Help? Owner of Spyderco says Sharpmaker can make better than factory new.
Make sure your keeping your hand straight u and down, and make sure your using moderate pressure, not pressing hard against the rods, just follow the written steps again...each pass you do lessen the pressure so its touching the rids lighter each time...when your all done run the blade backwards across a leather belt or similar to try to get rid of any burr...
I followed your advise, but did not use the Sharpmaker again yet. But I did use my belt as a strop and noted improvement, so deburring important, I guess, but thought that was automatically done by strokes on each stone balancing out. Like your videos! Keep up the good work. Blade did much better on paper. I'll sharpen some more and be a happy camper. Thanks, cutlerlover!
Your welcome, yesh even though your sharpen on both sides you still end up with tiny burrs, by deburring it really mgets tyhe edge honed properly and makes a difference, I want to get a real strop and some compoubnd to get a reall nice finished edge...
lol, peple just love the paper tests, I just made a new one shoiwing the moras and my leatherman wave...those all have the factory edges, and one mora is well used withut being touched up...Ill upload mit soon, maybe tomorrow...
Once again great video!! Do you know of anywhere I can send my knives to get shapened I know that spyderco you can send back to them and same with benchmade i just have to pay shipping. I am not comfortable to sharpen them myself don't want to mess them up
Well if you do a google searhc for sharpenign servises you will find alot of different places that proffetionaly sharpen knive,s and scissors and stuff like that...The best bet is to send it back to the company that made it, but if you don't know who made the knife you can just send it to one of these companies...A good one I know of a accusharp...but you may want to price shop a bit before you pick a place to use...
Thanks for sharing. One of the "tests" I have people do with chef's knives, is to cut a roll of paper towels in half. The point here is that the entire cutting surface of the edge is needed to split the roll. Your knives may be too short for this, but thought I would share... I use the SpyderCo SharpMaker as well - Very nice.
u got any good survival/hunting knifes u could review coz im thinking about buying a gerber LMF II Infantry before i go camping this year but still like to see other choices
cool. thanx for the vid. I have a request!! can you please do a short vid about how to do helix on balisong? I couldn't find any good ones to teach my-self. Thnx.
A few people asked me about that, but I can't doa Helix very well, lol, thaqts why I ahve not made a video on it...I have a certain amount of moves I practice over and over so I am good with them, the helix is a newer move to me, and I have not been able to get it down fluently, not good enough to teach others anyway, lol, sorry man...check out azteckia's videos, he is awesome! If he has not already had a vid on the helix, he might be able to make you one? Just ask nicely, hahaha...
Thanks, yeah the oversized ball bearing makes the blade pop right out once you put the right ammount of pressure on the thumbtud, almost like speed assist, but its still completely manual...
