Good Ruby ......... I am about to start the Aviator Harness training with my GC Conure. And seeing another conure doing it so comfortably gives me hope. It looks much easier on a bigger slower bird, but the smaller conures are so little and not to mention busy little birds........ Do you have any tips?
@rainypassion101 First, you get your timing right. Birds like to go every 20 minutes or so, though it can be 5 minutes for a nervous bird or HOURS for a sleeping one. So get to know your birds moods, and make sure you put them in the cage every time you think it's time, praise them when they go, and pick them up again if you want to. They catch on fast. I also let them know when they poop somewhere I don't like. I act disappointed and disgusted. I don't know if it helps, but it seems to.
Good job getting Rudy so comfortable with the harness. My Parker has a flight suit with a leash, but he hates it. He'll tolerate it (sort of) but nibble on it constantly. The upside is that if I want him to Not go somewhere, I just put the flight suit there and he stays away. You must be very patient.
@eilaberry I like the Aviator because my parrots are potty trained rather than wearing a diaper. I have heard also warnings about the velcro coming undone. The Aviator is a little awkward to adjust, but you can get a very good fit that is comfortable and secure. It comes with amazing video on how to teach a bird to accept putting it on.
@pyrrhuraphile I'll see what I can find for an Xtra Tiny harness, but I have my doubts. He's smaller than a budgie. I had to take in the smallest flight suit. Only need it in the summer anyway. And Parker's not much interested in the outdoors. It would help when we're camping though.
@eilaberry I just went to find out what Parker is, and your words all make sense now :) I am thinking of getting a parrotlet and Parker is pushing me closer to the edge. You are so good with him!
I think my GCC needs one of these. I picked up a feather tether, but the thing was almost impossible to fit. When I finally got it on her she just managed to get her feet out. This product looks much better.
What a beautiful conure! What variety is it?
