  • Hi there again! :)

Any suggestion for a tent for our weather? I got 3 tents - all of them is garbage. When it's hot it's 3 times hotter inside. From the other hand, a lot of mesh => have to close with fly (sun, rain), again no ventilation. Is there a best tent for Israeli weather?

Need it for desert and for hiking on north all-seasons tent (not 4 seasons, not going to camp on Hermon in Jan :D )

    Greg.

  • @muonneutrino Hi :) I have 4 seasons tent (even two). If it is hot weather I take only inside part of it or do not take any tent at all, and if it is cold (12-15C and below) or rain expected (which is uncommon) I take complete tent - the inside and the outside parts.

As you can see at this specific video we did not take any tent at all.

Any way I recommend this tent: REI Quarter Dome T2.

  • @hikingbike The price is just in the middle of my budget range :) However I see alot of mesh there. Should I purchase rain cover separately? And how this tent is ventilated with rain cover on?

    Thank you alot!

BTW, 4-seasons tent is not that expensive? I saw them for 400-500 bucks. Too much for me, I'm better spending this money for another lens for my Nikon :) [if my wife approve that]

  • @muonneutrino Tents are getting more expensive when the weigh of the tent reduces :) The ventilation is enough for breathing in the cold conditions, but when in hot weather, no ventilation system will do a job which is good enough. Even if there is only a net, it will keep worm inside. You will notice that when you open the door of the tent and fill colder air from outside.Pretty strange I would say.

I'm not sure what is "expensive" for you, it is very much individually i guess:)

  • @hikingbike Hi there!

Did you noticed this tent: Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2?

It's less than a kilo (With rain fly)!!! and cost $350.

For 2 persons. Interesting if except me and my wife our two children could enter this tent :)

  • @muonneutrino wow that one is really light! I wonder if it could be installed without stretching it and connecting to the ground

  • @hikingbike Yes, it's a freestanding tent. If you meant that.

  • @muonneutrino that is exactly what I mean! Thank you! :) Indeed a great one! without the rain cover it is only half a kilo which is great

  • @hikingbike

Oh, and yeah I understand you. tent adds to your weight of course, but do you remember those hundreds of crazy poisonous snakes and scorpions? Just waiting for the right moment to jump into your mobile chamber... :D

  • @muonneutrino Hiking 3 days in desert, you should take at least 12L of water, food for three days, sleeping bag, cook gear, 1.5kg Nikon SLR ;) that will get to 22-25kg on to your back :)

In that case, snakes and scorpions are much less dangerous and they try to avoid a contact with you :)

  • Where do you get water on the trail? Have you arranged any water brought by beduins?

    Great video! Thanks!

  • @muonneutrino We hiked for 3 days only, so we took all the water with us (about 12 litters of water each). At the entrance of the Red Canyon there were an "Ice-cream" truck so we bought a 1.5L bottle of a cold fresh water, but that was not necessarily.

    Thank you for comment.

  • @hikingbike OK. So you're saying that light trekking is not an option? Are there any water sources? 12 liters each - not too heavy (with all additional weight)? What about ladies? :)

    Thank you for the answer!

  • @muonneutrino No light trekking in Israeli deserts :) take a look on Timna trekking in my channel. We hiked from Timna via Amram mountain (National Israeli trail I think). On the way out of park Timna there is a "lake" and there is a drinking water source there. You can fill your bottles there. Back pack is constantly getting lighter :) By time you finish the trail it has only few kilos. If you hike in winter, there is relatively cold weather bring less water, but don't forget of the floods!

  • @hikingbike OK. I understand, so you've bought bottles (1.5L) of mineral water and took with you? I'm going to trek there in October. That's why I'm asking. I think in October (15-20) there are no floods, yeah?

Thank you a lot for your answers!!

  • @muonneutrino 1.5L or 2L bottles what ever you like more. In October I believe there will be no floods in Eilat Mountains area yet, but still you should check the weather. No rains means no floods. If you choose to trek along Israel National Trail, it is very luckily that you will meat many hikers on that trail, since that is THE period for INT hike, when many of the hikers get in to the deserts area by that time.

  • thanks, nice first-hand impression for my travel preparation

  • @niceguy20110207 Thank you! If you have questions you may as here or in a private massage :)

  • why did you give this a mediocre popsong soundtrack when you could have had an interesting commentary telling us all about the trekking??

  • @tim60s321 Hi, thank you for your comment .This type of a video is represented like a photo slide show accompanied by a song and not a documentary film with a commentary. There is not much to say about the trekking except of the names of the places we are visited and observed. If you have some advice on cometary topic while trekking, I will be glad to hear.

    Thank you for your feedback!

  • that looks amazing! great video too

  • @sssmellie thanks :)
