Looked to me like the foul started with his arm over the attacking player outside the penalty box, and could have been a free kick. Still a red card though,
Small note...this is a college game so it's played under NCAA Rules of the Game. Not the FIFA Laws of the Game but the Rules are still based on them. Just wanted to make that perfectly clear.
Commentator obviously hasn't read the Laws Of The Game. It was a clear obvious goalscoring opportunity, therefore he has to be sent off. Correct call.
4 D's (number of Defenders, Distance to the Ball, Distance to the Goal, and Direction of Play) They all meet the criteria for Deigning Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity.
Hopefully you will never have to do it. If and when you do, make sure the 4 D's are there and you will have less than a second to decide. Unless its DOGSO by deliberate handling, thats an easy one. Good luck!
Apparently you don't understand the laws of the game too well. He was sent off Denying and Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity. So the fact that you say it was definitely a foul (and since there was an obvious goal scoring opportunity present at the time) means it had to be a Red Card and Send-Off by Law. Once you combine the opportunity with the foul, it's red all the way. I do agree there was some embelishment on the part of the player, but as you said he was fouled so it made no difference.
It cannot be a yellow card. There are only two options. 1) No call and 2) send-off for DOGSO. If there is a foul called the red card must be shown. There wasn't much of a foul, but that isn't put into factoring the card color.
I like how the one commentator tries to pretend like he knew it was going to be a sending-off offense and then the other one says he disagrees with...what, the Laws of the Game???
If I was the coach I wouldn't be to angry because there's always a chance the other guy could miss the pk. However I would be angry at the fact my team now has to play down a man.
Hard to imagine a better example of DOGSO. Good call.

In my three years of refereeing, I never had to eject someone for DOGSO, only for cursing me out.
