  • Everything was so classy & subdued in those days.. the acting, the make-up, thea appreciation of natural (vs. forced) beauty.. and finally, the music. The opposite of everything Bollywood has become today.

  • Ravi Shankar gave music to 3-4 Hindi and 3-4 Bengali films though in some he only did background music as there were no songs. However, Anuradha was his most popular work

  • wow!!!!!

  • SUni meri beena sangeet bina in my case suna mera jeena sangeet bina .first sign of GOD,s presence in this world is surila gayan

  • one and only one film in which great maestro ravishankar gave superb music.all songs were superhit.

  • *ACKNOWLEDGMENT* rajshri.com always up loaded fine Indian film music melodies with good audio quality. This melody has been haunting me for the past 40 years in a superb beautiful manner and leaves me spellbound. Khalid

Asghar, former Controller/ Station Director, Radio Pakistan Lahore (24 June 2011)

  • The actress is famous Bengali actress LEELA NAIDU name of the movie was Anuradha.

  • Raag Kalawati...!

  • This is one of the very best movie I watched when TV arrived in India. One of the finest performance by leading actor & actresses. I will never ever forget this film, social subject and above all music, lyrics & sound.

  • this song remind of the old time radio Ceylon and all India radio of 1965s.

I was not any fan then or now, but still it draws me into that past time as if I am living in 65s.

  • Sahani reminds me an English actor!

  • grate feast to the senses--the expressions of Balraj Sahni--the music and the poetry of the song--no parellel

  • Leela Naidu is almost divinely beautiful at 1:20. Such elegance and grace!

  • @richerite she was considered THE most beautiful woman of that time

  • Balraj was probably the most powerful, natural and versatile actor. Came from my dad's hometown, Rawalpindi.

  • What a classic song and what an actor Balraj Sahney was! So much was his confidence he could allow space for co actors sidelining himself,

  • what superb acting by Balraj>

  • What lyrical soul stirring/touching music and words, and the voice of Lata ji. Romantic from beginning to end. Balraj is natural as is Naydu. Director's film.

  • Wonderful song and the whole movie. Balraj has managed to look so much metrosexual though, I don't know what makes him look from 1990s when the film was actually shot in 1960s. In spite of this, he is such a great actor that he can look a perfect farmer, pathan, king, slave or any character for that matter. Unimaginable.

  • jindgi kaa aik such

  • In search of good days, life has been ruined. Ahead is, darkness of death. Khalid Asghar, former Station Director, Radio Pakistan, Lahore. (22 Feb 2010)

  • @KhalidAsgharRadioPak

Zulmat e umar kaat di, mein ne ye soch kar Nadeem

Chadar e shab mein ja ba ja, taar hein roshni ke bhi.

Lekin in taron se subah na ho saki aur zindagi ki shaam ho gayee.

Sharing this song with me only shows your brilliant taste and talent in music. It has been my all time favorites. These songs are so deeply engraved on my mind and soul that I do not need any computer or anything. All I have to do is to switch on my memory to listen to every note. Thanks Khalid Bhai.

  • @KhalidAsgharRadioPak Please read, " It has been my all times favorite. in the middle. Sorry for typo.

To change mood, I see another beautiful song in the side window of related videos. Please listen, Dheerey Dheerey machal from the film Anopma.

    Regards.

  • thanks dear zaidi Bhai. The song you have kindly suggested to listen, i have already saved in my Realplayer SP. How ever thanks a lot. Khalid Asghar.

  • Anuradha was a great film. I was just recalling some more good songs from this film.

Sanvarey kahe mose karo jora jori

Jaane kaise sapnon mein kho gayi

Kaise din beete kaise beeti raiyaan

    Regards,

    Qasim Zaidi

  • Thanks dear *sqhzaidi*, i forward such undying melodies to the YouTube members, whom i understand they deserve and will share the pleasure of music with me. Knowing, every body had already listened. And other reason is, that i wish to pay my gratitude to the member, who up loaded, keeping a great aesthetic taste. Khalid Asghar. (14 March 2010)

  • I appreciate your spirit. Thanks.

  • Thanks daer Zaidi Bhai. Khalid Asghar.

  • @Khalid Asghar, nnmenon and sqhZaidi et al: This song has been my a favourite within favourites for many years. Your comments were wonderful too - for the erudition, and more on account of the realisation and India and Pakistan share so much in common with musical tradition. I lived outside India for many years and have many Pak friends. I hope to see a day when these two great peoples learn to love and respect each other. Music could be a great uniter.

  • Thanks daer *Madsad1607*, a YouTube channel, for your reply. This is such a wonderful melody that always haunted me, and leaving me spellbound. Khalid Asghar.

  • raak kalawati

  • Fabulous. Very moving. At the end of this sequence, the panel of medical specialists who have arrived at Balraj's house to confer an award on him for outstanding medical service, decide to give it to Leela instead, for her supreme sacrifice & devotion in her husband's cause. Very touching. A 'must see' movie directed by the unforgettable Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

  • May I express my feelings after listening to this wonderful renderiing by Lata Our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thoughts.

Many thanks for uploading this one!

  • No doubt, this is wonderful. Khalid Asghar, former Controller/ Station Director, Radio Pakistan, Lahore (05-01-2010)

  • WONDERFUL in all respects. Superb melody and excellent rendition by great Lata Ji. Thanks to *rajshri*, a YouTube channel, for up load.

  • one of lata's greatest ever

  • This wonderful actress is now no more. Let her sould rest in peace

  • "Anuradha" is the name of this movie

  • Female heroine' name is Leela Naidu and not Anuradha

  • they are north indians which is realy a mix of aryans, arabs and greeks .

  • The heroine, Leela Naidu, is actually Telegu, from Andhra Pradesh, which makes her South India. Her father, a nuclear physicist, Dr. Ramaiah Naidu from from Andhra and her mom, an Indologist was Swiss-French.

  • Thank you Khalid Asghar ji, for uploading this beautiful song.

The picturisation is also genuinely simple. The emotions are visible in the faces of Balraj Sahni and Nazir Hussain ..the sorrow that touches the heart.

    Thanks again.

    Vijay

  • Laalilali1000, thanks for the information on this beautiful song. jaanusgirl that was a good explanation. The beauty of the discussion on this song shows the following:

Good music is appreciated irrespective of race

Beauty unites people across the world to see the commonality

You may divide the country(India) but we are the same race, in fact Afghanis and to some extent Iranians think and behave like Indians and appreciate indian music as their own.

  • Thanks *peddammayi*, a YouTube Channel for accepyance with my anlysis of this great melody in the voice of great Lata Ji. WONDERFUL. Khalid Asghar, former Station Director, Radio Pakistan, Lahore. (LalLali1000 was my previous YouTube channel, now i am with my real name: KhalidAsgharRadioPak). Please SEARCH with my name: Khalid Asghar to listen and watch videos in my voice and compositions. THANKS.

  • The YouTube is blessings, no doubt, for the listners of such Undying melodies. i listened this song again, it left me spellbound. The new generation is unlucky to have awareness of such melodies. These purifies the soil & provide relief & comfort.Such songs' poetry is meaningful & thought provoking.Composed in Raga KALAWATI with the use of minimum instruments. Thanks a lot. Please send my gratitude to the member of YouTube, who added this LINK. Hope will continue.

  • What a song. Kaise din beete is also brilliant.

    Thanks for the post.

I think the raag is janasammohini. re is present unlike in kalavati.

  • Dear *nnmenon*, a YouTube channel. May be, you are right about the name of Raga. But in Pakistan, it is KALAVATI., with 05 notes. the notes are: Sa, Ga, Pa, Dha, Ni (Komal) Sa. All notes are TEEWAR except the note Ni. LaliLali1000 is my previous YouTube Channel. Thanks for your concern about classical music. Khalid Asghar, former Station Director, Radio Pakistan, Lahore & Music Analyst. (21-12-2009)

  • We in India have Kalavati too which is as you have described. But this song contains re teewar (or shudh as we call it over here) in "kyun" , the later part of "na" and the later part of "ja" in the second line.

This is typical of janasammohini. And when the song ends , Ravi shankar ropes in komal ga also!

  • LaliLali1000 & LALILALI2008 are the same address. iam Khalid Asghar. Infuture i will use LaliLali1000 for further coments. Since i could not see my written views on LALILALI2008, thought , i commit a computer technical mistake 7 raised the other YouTube Address. I am on my address LaliLali1000, in future. Thanks to YouTube, for providing the RARE songs' LINKS with a sense of peace & Internal Pleasure to face the next day life ordeals. Good music is a source of Mental Strength. Thans a lot.

  • This is one of the finest melody, indian Composers created. Obviously Lata ji voice delivered the Undying Magic. This is in Raga KALAWATI, my favourite. The composer used minimum instruments and got the immense required impact. The music piece of Sarangi, which is rare used in film music, produced remarkable effect. I have not seen this movie but the little audience also feels inspired. I am grateful to Rajshri for adding this song to YouTube.I am Khalid Asghar from Lahore(Pakistan)

  • Thank you Ashgar for sharing the information about this lovely song. It is a relief to know that there are people who understand good music. I myself am not an expert, but a lover of music and this song along with others from Anuradha has an ethereal quality. It must be the minimalism or the sarangi, I cannot tire of listening to it.

  • Thanks dear *sureshrajan67*, a YouTube channel for your acceptance. Now i use my YouTube address with my name: KhalidAsgharRadioPak. If you are interseted, please SEARCH with my name: khalid Asghar. Thanks.

  • I am grateful to you, dear rajshri for adding this rare song to youtube. i am Former Station director, radio Pakistan, Lahore. Therefore comment with sound knowledge of music. Am a composer, too. A ghazal: JIN KE HOONTOON PE HANSI, produced in the voice of Ghulam Aliis my composition (1972 ) at Radio Multan. This song is in Rage KALAWATI & rendered in true expression. Thanks.

  • why all these people look like White Caucasians?

the print is B&W but what about facial features?

  • I find it surprising you think these folks look like Caucasians. They are ALL Indians (from India). Some Afghans look like Caucasians even more, coz some of them are fair skinned with light colored eyes. One shouldn't label certain features as belonging to only one race.

  • Song itself is enough for the expressions....no need for the special facial features. And by the way....they are Indians, not Caucasians.

  • Never seen black cauc-asians.
