Hi everyone :) i am at university studying graphic design and i have chosen to do a brief on the wizard of oz. I am going to be producing typographical posters to bring back this classic film and give it life once again so that people want to watch the film. It would be a great help to get some feedback on what people remember about this classic film or any other thoughts would be much appreciated :) thanks Hayley. If you could PM me that would be even better.
The great Oz was brilliant in a more subtle way than the people of OZ wanted him to be, so he became that image. Upon being discovered human, he, rather quickly, resumed his role of making Dorothy's companions realize they were trying to find something they already had. Brains, courage and empathy seem to be far easier to explain than home. While the land of Oz felt familiar, Dorothy recognized her companions as mere shadows compared to her family back home. She desired to be with them.
Back where I come from we have universities, seats of great learning, where men go to become great thinkers. And when they come out, they are in massive debt and spend years paying off student loans... and with no more brains than you have!
In the real book... Scarecrow got a real brain, Lion got a magical drink for courage and tinman got a wierd heart... but scarecrow got a real brain... :/
If you are interested, check out "Aha Moment Stories" here on YouTube. It is a growing collection of videos about "Aha!" Also, Aha stories and comments and ideas about "Aha!" are being collected there. Maybe you have something to contribute too. If after looking it over, maybe you'd like to subscribe to it, and add to a growing network of people there that welcome and are looking forward to saying "Aha!"

at 25-28 he points to his eye! Seats of great learning! The all seeing eye of the e pluribus unum on american money! Why is it Latin & not english! Why does the lion get a rosy cross and tin man get a ticking time bomb clock and scare crow doesn't show his certificate! Another strange load of crap people refuse to see
notice at 1:00 he says, oh joy, rapture, i've got a brain! he realizes the illuminati run by the powerful oz is an idiot who he didn't need after all! What was the incryption code he gave all about? It's the answe to the end of the world!!
I think the best line in the entire film is, "A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others." It's very true, you know.
The staggering trick in this scene is that just when everybody thinks that the problems are solved, every player gets what (s)he wants, their pure original feelings and qualities have been totally looted. They get what are the societally accepted substitutes for their walues, they are degraded to 'normality', ordinariness.
@Unbihexium I disagree What they found is that they had these qualities all along,But like a lot of people, needed to have someone point it out to them.
@Nickcat5 Well, my friend, I think my interpretation doesn't cancel yours and vica versa. By the way as a Zizek fan I'd like to draw your attention to the very ironic aspect of the scene, which is full of sentences like "they have no more brains that you have" try to imagine from the other way around what it really means (the magisters have only straw in their head!), so the wole thing is not ONLY about the dear little guys but also about the others which are watching the movie... tobecontinued
@Nickcat5 And the sad thing I have talked about is that just at the point when they ACCEPT what society gives AS substitutes for their values they are loosing these. What I mean is that they barter their deeper, real hearts, minds, etc for diplomas, clocks and other very profane THINGS, which are only signs of the real virtues! So the whole fairy tale is "turned upside down" unperceivably for most of the watchers.
@Nickcat5 What you have been talking about is the primary (public, "hollywood logic", "for the people's minds") meaning of the film, which is obvious, I know. :-)
Anyway, please forgive me for "teaching", personally I am not so important, but what I'm saying is a posible interpretation.
THE DREAMS OF MR MULDOON now available on AMAZON KINDLE @2.99.....publishers said this would make a great film....i love this film and if you like it youll like this book as well
@ThePhychoHero Think about it, "the sum of the squareroots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square of the remaining side" That makes zero sense. I think he meant to say, "the sum of the squares of the lengths of sides of a right triangle is equal to the squareroot of the hypothesis"
I heard somewhere online they knew Scarecrow's little mathematical genius was wrong....but they actor couldn't say it correctly, so they left it as is cause it was close enough. If that's true, I thinks it's pretty funny, but either way, I can't process math enough to tell if it's wrong anyway. :P
lol i love how the scarecrow says the pathagorean therom wrong. it's not the square root of two sides, you square both sides and the triangle doesn't have to be isosolece hahahaha.
BEAUTIFUL FILM, I HAVE WATCHED IT EVERY TIME ITS SHOWN ON TV, ITS A SWEET AND LOVABLE FILM, JUST LIKE ITS CHARACTERS, THUMBS UP FOR THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ, xxxxxxxx
@heatherleehart Not only should he say Right triangle, but it's the sum of the squares of the legs, equals the square of the longest side. It's not the square roots. I can't believe such an error.

Scarecrow: The sum of the square roots of any 2 sides of an isocoles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side.
That's actually INCORRECT. That's the equation for a RIGHT triangle. The equation being incorrect was an inside joke.
pytko3 9 months ago 11
This doesn't make sense for any triangle, including right triangles.

@anton1990 I saw it first time back in 1951 and its still a real freak show after 60 years.
These days we have "Queen OZ" hiding behind a curtain in charge of a Potemkin "Emerald City"
known as "Homeland Security". If somebody told any of us back then that this U.S. Republic
would EVER turn into what it is now we'd have rolled on the floor lol.
(BTW just 1 freaky thing is the chubby guy who played the "lion", Bert Lahr, was having a torrid
love affair with Bette Davis at the time)
