  • Oh my god, her accent!! How beautiful!

  • "Its always very nice to win an Oscar". How classy is that, so elegant.

  • Won 3 Oscars. Another 30 wins & 12 nominations

  • On behalf of my country I apologize for Mrs Bergman's dress!

  • "It's always very nice to get an Oscar." QUEEN

  • This must have been the most generous Oscar speech I've ever witnessed - to mention and praise another actor so much. And she of course is so beautiful.

  • Katherine Ross is hot.

  • @renfieldvonklauss C-O-R-T-E-S-S-E

  • @miguelucho20008 One S is enough....CORTESE....Valentina Cortese....

  • omg i never realize how tall she was....her height was fitting for a goddess. :)

  • i love her!!

  • Ingrid Bergman was such a beautiful and classic actress. These kinds of actors just don't exist anymore ):

  • Her Swedish accent is her trade mark. And I'm Swedish myself. It just wouldn't be her without it.

  • It's always nice to win an Oscar. LOL! Hahahah Long live ingrid!

  • I'm looking at the women's fashions.

Love it that the older actresses are all covered up. still dressed very becomingly.

Talia Shire looks great, but is not over made up..you can see the circles under

her eyes. Katharine Ross looks beautiful, hair down and obviously no boob implants!! Miss the 70's ...each woman had her own style..not like the Oscars today!

  • first of all, ingrid bergman seems like a very nice person. But she is so wrong. The thing is, the movie that she was talking about is called "Day for night" not "day and night" and it wasnt even nominated for best picture, it just won best foreign film. Plus valetina cotressa WAS nominated. Ingrid, you're sweet, but you didnt do your research right.

  • @fluff975

Maybe YOU should have done YOUR research. Valentina Cortesa, or as you so intelligently put it...'Valetina Cotressa' was NOT nominated the year before when Day For Night won the award for best foreign film. The next time YOU win an Oscar, let's see how good YOUR speech is.

  • @lilmanbridges The name is CORTESSE.

  • @fluff975

actually it's your research that is inaccurate, because the film "day for night" was nominated in 1974 for best foreign language film and also won that year. valentina cortese was not nominated that year for her role in "day for night", but one year later in 1975 (as you can see and hear in the clip) .

  • Balls. This should've gone to Diane Ladd.

  • Is it just me or does anyone else like watching the Loser's expressions? BTW thank you so much for uploading this!!

  • she didn't deserve this. Valentene Cortese or Diane Ladd was better. This was an apology. Ingrid Bergman was on screen for less than ten minutes for this movie.

  • @owg59 Not quite. Screentime doesn't mean anything. It's the performance that matters. Bergman was mind-blowing in her little screentime and she deserved the win. I agree that Cortese and Ladd were extremely good and would have been worthy of the win as well, but Bergman was equally lovely in her role.

  • Helen Hayes in Airport and Ingrid in this....what is it about aging actresses in thankless supporting roles as little-old-lady-stowaways on planes and trains that the Academy loved so much?

  • R.I.P. Peter Falk aka COLUMBO my favorite guy and detective!!!!!!!

  • So luvly to see Peter, may god rest his soul. Anyways, Ingrid is the best, she so deserved this award...

  • Falk was also a presenter in '74 with Twiggy, i think and yes thats Katherine Ross.

  • I believe this was peter's only time presenting an Oscar. It may have been his only appearance. Can't remember if he appeared when he was nominated...Why not post Ustinov & Chakiris' wins and we can find out???

  • is that the daughter in the graduate? when i saw the movie i thought of how beautiful she was wow

  • Ok everybody, google Violette Szabo, a spy from WWII. You just won't believe your eyes. It can't be.

  • A classy lady and a true Hollywood starlet.

    Rest Peacefully

    INGRID BERGMAN (1915-1982)

  • Ingrid Bergman was a GREAT ACTRESS no doubt, however, she did NOT deserve to

win an Oscar for that crappy movie. The winner should have been the late, great and

underated actress Madeline Kahn. At least she won a Tony award:-)

  • You have to appreciate the unusual in an Oscar winner spending the whole speech praising another actress' performance the year before...

  • The Swedes are great in bed

  • Oh, and I love her accent so much! Fabulous Ingrid. ♥

  • She was so nervous! OMG, and she was so funny and beautiful and so talented! Ingrid is one of my favorite actresses and I love her so much. She was so gracious and cute. Oh God! I admire her. Bad English, sorry.

  • PURE SWEDISH CLASS!!!!

  • "Thank you very much, indeed. It's always very nice to get an Oscar..."

One of the things I admire most about Ingrid Bergman is her wit. It is unforgettable, really!

And her beauty, oh. my. gosh.

She really is one of the best ever. And I love her!

  • Vikings Rule!

  • I can't believe Diane Ladd's arrogance when Ingrid's name is announced as the winner. However, this is one of the few times I like the real reactions of nominees when one of their fellow nominees win.

  • How honest and humble! To pay respect to a "rival"!! I love Ingrid Bergman! Although she moved from Sweden in 1940's she always kept her "down-to-earth" honest Swedish humour and way of looking at life!

  • Very classy and very humble!

  • By the way, Valentina Cortese is still alive!

  • WOO KATHERINE ROSS!

  • valentina cortese, true ITALIAN pride!!!

  • The correct way to accept an award is with gratitude for the honor, and not with admonishment toward the folks who voted for you.

  • This is simply CLASS in its finest form! Such a rare quality nowadays. :-)

  • Ingrid's beauty and talent made her one of the best actresses in the history of cinema !

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, Ingrid Bergman was great. But that is a really good picture of Madeline Kahn. She was so funny and sexy at the same time. Wonder where she was that night? RIP to both ladies.

  • I LOVE PETER FAULK

  • I love her! Too bad she was so before my time :( The most beautiful actress to have ever walked this earth. Hail!

  • Ingrid Bergman is absolutely beautiful, and such a great actress! She really deserved the Oscar! By the way, Katharine Ross looks amazing =)

  • Such an amazing Lady :)

She really resembles my Great-aunt, whose name is also Ingrid :D

  • Yes, I agree with Ingrid. Valentina Cortese should have won, handily.

  • Diane Ladd is great. What an insulting reaction. Haha.

  • Underbara Ingrid vår svenska stjärna. Wonderful Ingrid the big movie star from Sweden.

  • Hollywood was better back in them days!

  • @boatstaylor thats a damn lie it seemed dull. its more excitement in hollywood now-a-days

  • Not just Hollywood, but the entire world!!!

  • What a lady.

  • I agree with muffillity! It is a gracious "f*** you" hehehe.

  • rent "Day for Night" it's a great movie!

  • @puccini007 i totally agree with you!

  • I like how she made her speech all about Valentina

  • The best oscar line to date.. "It's always nice to win an Oscar"

  • All though she moved from Stockholm to Hollywood when she was young and then to Italy, she still had a swedish accent when she spoke and remained very Swedish (honest, humble, gracious) in her personality. Nice to see!

  • PURE SWEDISH CLASS!!!!!!!

  • @serepax she is german

  • @mehmoodazhar haha r u kidding? she is swedish :)

  • @serepax no she is not sorry shes swedish

  • I wish that Katherine Ross would get out of the frame while Ingrid is giving her speech...

  • great speech very humble

  • "It's always nice to get an Oscar!" LOL! She rules!

  • god, katerine ross was smoking hot in those days

  • She is such a humble and wonderful human being. As beautiful as she is from outside she is also beautiful from inside. RIP Ms. Bergman. You will always be alive in our hearts.

  • Isabella Rosellini and her mom sound so much alike!!

  • They know that their faces are shown to us. could they at least pretend to be happy for the winner, let it be hypocrite, but they will look better in our eyes.

I'm not talking exactly about that nomination.

  • It really should have been Diane Ladd or Valentina Cortese, because they were

necessary to the plot, whereas dear Ingrid only had a few scenes.

  • Diane looked pissed...

  • shouldn't it be "Day for night" not "day and night"??

  • The Swedes say it like it is. +

  • It is generally agreed that Ms. Cortese should have won. Ms. Bergman was

wonderfully ungrateful for being the "sentimental favorite"!

  • Katharine Ross was so pretty :O Talia Shire should have won i think.

  • She was a brilliant actress, but as happens in Hollywood, she was given the Oscar for a good performance, rather than the many others that were epic. Dian Lad gave one of film's great performances as Flo in "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore." The film is worth watching for her alone.

  • She deserved this very much

  • I love how the 'Murder on the Orient Express' music plays

  • I love Ingrid Bergman. I fell in love with her some 42 years ago after seeing "Joan of Arc." The love has endured ever since. Dear Ingrid, may you rest in peace:) --

  • Awesome speech xD, more like an exchange of words between her and Valentina + sticking it up to the Academy!

"Sorry Valentina, I didn't mean too... *laughter* "

    So sweet

  • Katherine Ross....oh my God...I almost fell out of my chair when I saw her pop up in this video...she is beyond beautiful.

  • @spd13062 Beyond beautiful, and smart. She made damn sure she was in the shot of the 'Oscar winner', and totally wasn't listening or caring to anything Ingrid was saying. I knew George Roy Hill who thought she was an idiot during the filming of Butch Cassidy, very self-absorbed.......

  • She was a great actress and a real Lady...so nice that she spent all her speech talkin'about Valentina Cortese's performance...

  • She was the least deserving of the 5 nominees. How much of a stretch was it for Bergman to have played a shy, Swedish missionary?

  • @jkfromcincty Newsflash-The Swedes are not shy, nor are they typically missionaries.

  • Diane Ladd não gostou...

    Diane Ladd disliked...

  • What a pretty lady!!! :) Even when she was older...

  • Bergman being graceful as always. actresses could learn a thing or two from her.

  • it's lovely to see these stars being so gracious. Something this generation of actors could stand to learn.

  • Ingrid was so beautiful even older

  • She's awesome. To think that she won three Oscars, all competitive, over the course of 30 years, both leading and supporting, AND with other nominations to her name...that's legendary. Not to mention the nominations she deserved and didn't get.

  • Ingrid Bergman was a stunningly beautiful woman and one of the best actresses to grace this planet!

  • Each one deserved the Oscar that year.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE her. So elegant.

  • katherine ross was wonderful..

  • Katharine Ross 0:15-0:17, +∞!

  • i love Katherine Ross

  • Katherine Ross who starred in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid/Paul Newman and Robert Redford!

  • OMg who is the woman presenting. she freaking beautiful

  • i love her

  • Great moment - i like that she will talk about the other actress!!

  • she looks so elegant and regal as she glided up to center stage and when she made that witty remark about"its so good to win an oscar again"...that just adds the icing on the cake..Ingrid Bergman is one of the best, beautiful and most enigmatic women to ever grace Hollwood with her presence....i don't think there'll be anyone else quite like her!

  • It's lovely to see someone accept an Oscar in such a dignified way and not drone on for ages. A short and sweet speech and she doesn't sound like she's having an ashtma attack (like many oscar winners today).

  • @thanth11 Or maybe it is her third and she's obviously not going to get that excited about it?

  • @deanriam it is her third.

  • I can't believe that the female presenter couldn't get out of the way when Ingrid accepted her award. Get out of her eye-line!

  • "It's always very nice to get an oscar" XD

  • pure swedish class!!!

  • pure swedish class!!!

  • My favorite actress.

  • What a classy, gutsy, beautiful woman, the best ever!!

  • Heja Ingrid! Du är bäst! (och så säger dom att vi svenskar är stela och hämmade.) "It´s always nice to win an Oscar" hahaha. (her star has grown after her deah. Right? Young girls adore her!)

Why was she so unusual in Hollywood? She refused to change her name, looks and natural style!

  • class act...well done

  • Ross should have won in 1967!

  • ingrid was always the epitome of elegance and in this speech she shows clearly how gracious she could be as well.

  • Ingrid in many ways reminds me of Meryl Streep - grace, intelligence and kindness towards others. That is why Ingrid and Meryl Streep are similar in this regards.

  • Classy lady. Wonderful actress. Very humble.

  • She's seems so angry in the beginning

  • The eternal Goddess.

  • "It's always very nice to get an Oscar", probably the best "Oscar" line ever! She would've won more if she wasn't outside the States for five of her best years...

  • Classy lady

  • Valentina Cortese said that the praise she received from Ingrid Bergman that night was the best moment of her career - and was subsequently delighted that she did not win !!

  • SHIT, she shouldn't have won.

  • Diane Ladd was pissed, even more so after the speach. She has said that after Ms. Bergman came back and sat down she felt like tapping her on the shoulder and saying, "I'm not exactly chopped liver" or something to that effect.

  • How sweet what a classy lady.

  • "It's always very nice to get an Oscar" LOL Ingrid Bergman seemed to recieve and Oscar before breakfast. She was out of this world. And Katherine Ross looked... oh dear God!

  • She has a smile that could make anyone's day brighter!

  • My god, she sounds just like her daughter!

  • @darkphoenix474 Oh yeah, no DNA needed in that case

  • actually, her daughter sounds just like her;)

  • How Bergman won for MotOE without even being nominated for "Casablanca" or "Notorious" will forever remain a mystery to me. However, she did give a wonderful, gracious "F*** you" to the academy with this acceptance speech.

  • @muffility12 I totally agree!! she should have at least been nominated for casablanca and especially Notorious!!!

  • @Bergman90 I love Notorious! I watch it all the time. Not to mention the absolutely gorgeous and highly under-rated Cary Grant! BIG SIGH!

  • @muffility12

I totally agree with everything you said...plus, I loved how Ingrid's speech pwned the Academy in the most dignified, humble, and beautiful way possible!!!!

  • @muffility12 Simple, she didn't get nominated for Casablanca because she was a million times better in For Whom The Bell Tolls.

  • @muffility12 hahaha "Gracious F*** you"

I'm glad she did that. Love her!

  • @muffility12 sometimes people win for the movies they should have won fir not the ones they did that year. case in point, james stewart won for the Philadelphia story and not for mr. smith goes to washington.

  • Diane Ladd looks pissed.

  • ..she always looks pissed....

  • pure class.

  • She's like pulling a Kanye on herself. "YO! I'm happy for me and imma let me finish, but YOU had the best performance of all time. OF ALL TIME!"

  • @wench10 I think that that was really nice and sweet of her to do, she is really a very classy lady, shame that she's gone

  • The supporting performance of 1974 was given by Valerie Perrine as Honey Bruce in "Lenny". For some weird reason she was nominated as Best Actress having previously won in LA and NY in the supporting category.

  • Valentina was SUPERB in "Day For Night"...And I feel that, receiving a tribute by Ingrid Bergman on stage is even better that actually winning the oscar!ingrid was a very classy lady

  • I love how impretencious she seems.

  • Impretencious???

  • Unptetentious, kids, it's spelled unpretentious.

  • even with age she never really lost her beauty.

  • I love how she criticizes that stupid policy they had in the '70s where they would honor the foreign film in its own category in one year only to open up the major categories the following year.

  • "It's always very nice to get an Oscar" -famous line.

  • When they panned to Valtina Cortesse, I swore that was Cher for a split second.

  • That was by far the most charming, humble and lovely oscar speach!

  • i really like her accent ;)

  • @DannaRoseAguilar

I always loved her accent. That makes me think of that scene in "Notorious", when Cary Grant finds Bergman in bed near the end of the film. She says, almost with resignation, "they're poisoning me". That moment showed me how much, with that lovely accent, she was able to render a character or convey emotion or thought so completely.

  • Isabella Rossilini is her daughter

  • I've seen all five of these nominated performances, and I actually would've given it to Valentina Cortesse, though Madeline Kahn would have come in second.

  • Katharine Ross is stunning!!!!!

  • Bergman was a class act here. It was more of a career honor, and Cortese was probably the more deserving winner. But Bergman should have four Oscars by my count: "For Whom the Bell Tolls", "Gaslight", "Anastasia", and "Autumn Sonata".

  • i love the fact that she expressed so well how she felt and stayed in the moment instead of thanking ever who she had ever met. bravo!

  • One of the greatest actress of all time! I love her voice; it is so soothing and determined! RIP Ingrid! An actress of her caliber comes around once in a lifetime. Thanks for uploading!

  • Ingrid Bergman had the most extraordinary face; it got more and more beautiful the older she got.

  • I just saw it recentley and, IMO, she did not deserve the Oscar...the performance is tiny and I read somewhere that the only reason she got it was out of respect.

But it is a good movie, nonetheless.

  • i want to see this movie.

i've only seen her in casablanca and notorious...she was great in those films...

  • class!!!!

  • One of the WORST winners ever.

  • I guess that just shows how poor your taste is and how noone gives a fuck what you think =)

  • that's why she won 3 of those

  • fuck you get the fuck off youtube bitch

  • I can see why she got this award, she was great in the orient express
