also mate, if you have myEmulators running yet can u show a vid of it an possibaly tell how to do it because ive been working on it for ages trying to have it work flawlessly in my setup and no matter how much i change the .xml files or re-install the entire thing, it always fails!!
Hi could you help me having problems playing 720p and 1080p movies they either stutter or won't start. Also how do you get all DVD/blu ray commentary on?
@1981Amm What processor do you have? Also, do you know what codecs you use to playback the video and audio? and do you know what splitter is used? Did you just install a codec pack.. if so, which one?
Thanks for sharing, it inspired me to get a MediaPortal setup running and I'm stoked with it. How are you doing the advanced recording of tv shows? That's not standard MediaPortal that does that is it? Also, are you skipping ads with Comskip?
@tonyppalmer Good on you mate. The advanced recording is done via "4TheRecord" (much better than MP's internal TV recording management).
And indeed, the ads skipping is thanks to comskip. Comskip will work just fine on a single-seat setup, however on a multi-seat (server+client) it doesn't work out of the box. But! Check the wiki page on setting up comskip. and (down the bottom of it) you'll see a link to a forum thread which solves the problem on multi-seats and gets it working :)
@xenyox Rule of thumb is a dual core and up. What CPU do you have? As far as codecs go, I would suggest "ffdshow tryouts" (the tryouts bit is important as ffdshow is a dis-continued project). It's a codec package of many encoders/decoders. DivX, MPEG, H.264, WMV etc. For the splitting of the mkv container, I would recommend "Halli". Splitters feed the audio data to the audio decoder, and the vid to the vid decoder. FFDShow+Haali+.net framework = smooth playback. lest you've an insufficient CPU.
Hey, awsome vid, good work! Motivated me to build my own setup. I'm buying components atm, can u suggest a TV capture card? What remote are u using? Does the remote need an external IR receiver? Can you recommend any Australian parts suppliers? Cheers!
@242gtr and @rntonp The remote I'm using is a Logitech Harmony 525. The harmony's are the shit, but they're expensive :(. I've actually cracked the screen on mine and need to get a new one but just can't justify the cost considering my girlfriend and I already have the contents of the screen in memory so we don't 'need' it. The screen serves to navigate your options of toggling between devices, as the Harmony is a universal remote. If it accepts infa-red, the Harmony can control it. Check it out
@242gtr Oh, and yes you need an IR receiver. However, the case used in my setup has one built-in. It's Antec's Fusion Black 430. I'm pretty sure most HTPC cases should have one built-in nowadays. If not, you can get a USB-ir receiver for around $20. Although I must say it is nice to not have it showing
Part 2 (server demo) gets error "faulty" message. Great setup. Are you using a standard remote control for the HTPC? Also, do you know if this would be useful for integrating into a Win7 pc currently streaming to my PS3 in another room (using PlayOn and PS3 Media Server) === Or would I simply bypass the PS3 , etc??.. Hope this makes sense. Awesome band!!!!
@rntonp If you're using the PS3 as the 'player' then MediaPortal is no good. Best stick with the PS3 transcoding/streaming solutions out there like PS3 Media Server / TVsersity etc... If rather you wanted to bypass the PS3 altogether and hook your Win7 box up to the telly, then yeah media portal can be used.
Mediaprtal was not good before, version 1.1.0 seems impressive, but I will await MediaPortal 2, and use an old XP cd. Because Vista really sucks. Windows 7 is a little better, but not good enough.
@VilhelmAxel If I had the time to learn, which I simply and unfortunately do not, I'd go with MythTV on a linux box probably. It's lightning fast and it's money and Windows-free!
@sovilifestyletech Blu-ray discs, no. I don't have anything close to an elegant solution for blu-ray yet. I have to decrypt the disc (AnyDVD-HD), rip the contents (eac3to + TsMuxer), ReCode all audio and video I wish to keep -director's commentary, hearing impaired audio track etc.. (MeGUI), convert the subtitles from their image-format -sup, to a text format -srt (suprip), then mux it all together into the mkv container (mkvmerge). Phew. Even posting it took forever!
@KingofIce547 The skin is called "XFactor" and can be found by going to the Media Portal forums. I'd post the link but YouTube just spits back "Error, try again later"
..As for the movies you can find many titles from amazon.
@trudyandgeorge When I tried to run MediaPortal with that skin it said it was outdated and didn't load it... But thanks anyways, I'll just look for another.
@GadgetAddicted Sure. My MediaPortal install is set to utilise DirectShow to decode video and audio. Which basically means installed codecs will take over the job of decoding. If it can play on your locally installed media player, then it'll play in MediaPortal :D
Very nice. Are you using a custom skin/theme/layout?
