Glad to see Rio De La Plata getting back to winning some races again. A good win for him at York recently during the Ebor festival in the G3 Sky Bet Strensall Stakes. Also had a recent win at Ponterfact in the Pomfret Stakes. Which is a listed race. But Rio De La Plata seems to be making progress, and moving slowly but surely back up the ladder to group stakes success.
@ZenyattaLuver, I haven't heard the results of his race in the Prix Du Moulin De Longchamp yet? I live in America, and we're 5 hours behind, time wise, with France, Ireland, and Great Britain. So it always takes me longer than anyone from Europe to find out the results of these races. Even though I like Paco Boy a lot. I'm rooting for old Rio De La Plata. Love that horse. He was a G1 horse in his early days. Ran well against New Approach, I remember. Would love to see him win in France.
@ZenyattaLuver, Not only did he bag a G1 after his heart breaking loss in the Prix Du Moulin. He went to Italy and bagged two G1's. Rio De La Plata would get my vote for comeback horse of the year for 2010. He started the 2010 season in Dubai. He ran in the Zabeel Mile at Meydan. Where he finished dead last to Imbongi. He worked his way back through conditions stakes and listed stakes. Then won the G2 Strensall Stakes at York. Beating Rainbow Peak and a quality field. That propelled him forward.
As a 2yr.old and a 3yr.old, Rio Del La Plata was a hell-a-chious horse. Winning the Gran Criterium and finishing 2nd in the French 2000 Guineas to Falco in 2008. He still races well. But I'd love to see this horse get back into this kind of groove!!!
just short of top class, but a lovely looking horse, always tries his best, barely ever runs a bad race, a fantastic servant for connections
