and the amount of money a person has is usually something mostly beyond their control. why is it that a miner can work for 12 hrs harvesting useful raw materials and get £5, when a mine owner can do nothing useful for anyone and become extremely rich in the process?

It is well within the ability of our current technology and productive capacity to more than adequately feed, clothe and house everyone in the world. The reason some don't get access isn't that there isn't enough or that they're not hardworking enough, it's just not in the short term profit interests of the capitalist class. Profit in capitalism is *the* motive force behind production. Real practical considerations rarely come into it.
Ridiculous video. The biggest problem being in Africa despite being born into poverty it seems like a popular move to have as many as children as possible. Just reduce offspring and when they've sorted themselves out THEN start producing.
