You would be surprised how many schools threaten to punish the kids who say a prayer before lunch (my daughter was threatened with this). all of your examples fail because you are trying to figure out the odds of something occurring after the fact of the occurrence. Example, there is a lottery with 10,000,000 players. Before the lottery is drawn, the odds of Joe winning is 1 in 10,000,000. Bob eventually wins the lottery. After the draw, the odds of Bob having won the lottery is 1 in 1, since he's won the lottery. Not much of a story. Rational explanation, if I'm getting the gist right: Group of people believe in spirits so fervently, they'll act accordingly and unconsciously alter their memories to let themselves think they were affected. The one who didn't react chose not to because she believed she was immune.
I don't see anything about this anecdote that separates it from all the other crystal-waving woo out there.

There are some very good reasons to forbid prayer and other religious practices in schools. There are so many contradictory religious viewpoints in America, no single choice would please everyone. But what is wrong with having schools be a place for just education? The god described in this video is hateful and petty. Why do we need to offend people by inserting your religious theories into the curriculum? Is it because you hate America, jwin1990? That seems to be the case.

So, if a story doesn't make moral sense, make up something random outside the text to justify it. I suppose next you're going to tell me that the genocidal stories where it says God commanded them, you're going to say it was actually Satan giving out those commands.
If you're going that sort of route, why bother with the text at all as a guide to morals, when you're using exterior morals to judge how you're reading it?

I would have already asked him why not to touch the switch, he would have provided an explanation, and I would be informed enough to make a judgment call. If he didn't explain, I'd go up and ask him to explain the contradiction. No such luxury with deities.
As for spirits, good question. I've been asking that for a while, and no one's been able to provide an answer beyond claiming that they have an infallible, undescribed ability to detect the undefined entities.

Sounds like you've got plenty of reason to second-guess yourself, which is what you should do. That's what skepticism and science are about: Recognizing that even normal, healthy people have faults, which is why we test and retest our hypotheses.

Here in my country no mandatory prayers, no shootings. Lower teen pregnancy, lower drug use, lower murder rate. Regularly one of the 5 happiest places in the world.
But best of all: The second most atheist country in the world.
