Just saying, but your CD isn't that hard to earn....all it is is Heeling on and off, figure 8, sit +down stays, recall and that's it. But the High In Trials were good
@ssusgirl Um.... have you ever tried doing obedience with a Saint Bernard? I have and it isn't as easy as you think! Mine earned his CDX and was trained in rally, agility and carting as well as being a wonderful therapy dog, but it wasn't easy and he was an exception to the breed. Saints are bred to work and think on their own, it's tricky to get them to do what you ask, when you ask...
A beautiful, noble beastie. Saints are just lovely beyond words. Even with the slobber, I can't resist them.
Thank you so much for sharing these snapshot memories of the darling Hennessy with us. He will go on now not only in your memory, but in ours as well.
Yeah I think hip dysplasia is something hereditary. My St. Bernard lived to be 11 years old (3 months shy of being 12 years old) and I used to take him running all the time.
I am so sorry about your dog's passing, he was so adorable, talented, and he looked awfully sweet. I have a saint too. He's almost 9 and I can't imagine life without him.
Don't you think agility is not the best sport for Saints? The're quite heavy and don't have such strong bones. No wonder dogs like that get HD much faster..
Hennessy was 3 when he started and did it about 6 years. He also pulled 4500 lbs in competion and training him slowly till he was 3 in pulling helped build up muscle and stamia. None of this causes HP if they don't have it too start with.
My Saint still has 4 weaks left of beginers traning but she is allredy jumping courses of 25 in jumps. Also, do you have any advise for teaching the dog walk?
And in the month of march he got his rally advance title and 1 2nd place and 4 1st places in agility. My saint Pandora starts classes this month in agility.
2 years ago my German Shepard died and now we have a St. Bernard name Rosie who is traning in agility (she is almost 2) and can allredy jump a 20in corse and a 24in corse
Hennessy was 3 before I started him in agility. I have had 4 saints that did agility and getting ready to train another one. Good luck with yours the crowds love to see saints do it.
Oh sweet Hennessy! What a beautiful tribute to a great dog! You are blessed to have had him. You can see the love of dog and master. Amazing. Thank you for sharing him with us all!

@ssusgirl
when my wife tried to get his cd did not even come close.
I had never been in the ring to try till going in with him.
It is not easy with a alfa dog which the rest of his litter had
to go to rescue because the owners could not handle them.
So it is not always easy. Depends on the dog and owner comment.
