I was leaking about a quart of oil every 1000 miles. This has steadily increased over the past few months. Just dropped a quart yesterday!!! Thanks so much for the video! If I can find a torque wrench, I think I could pull this off.
I'm so glad you did this video. It's the best I've found on this. I have a 96 camry that I was considering doing this job on and your video really makes it seem simple. How long did this job take you?
Also, a Toyota dealer told me that there was oil in the spark plug tubes. Any idea why that occurs? They suggested the tubes be replaced. Do you think it'd be much harder than what you did in this video?
Thanks again. I've watched your other camry videos as well. Nicely done. Invaluable!
To be honest. I don't have any experience with oil in the spark plug tubes. I don't want to give you bad advice.
I think if you were just replacing the valve cover gasket and you had all the tools you needed with you, the job could be done in 1 to 1.5 hours. This does not include curing/drying time for the RTV sealant.
I have a similar issue with my 95 Camry. It's as if oil has gotten into the spark plug tubes and every once in a while the pressure actually causes the boot to pop out of the top of the valve cover. A friend who is a part time mechanic told me to replace the valve cover gasket. I think I'll start there. But I'll ask around about the spark plug tubes and post again if I come up with any good info on that.
My problem isn't quite that bad. I asked a Toyota mechanic, he said that the sealant on the base of the tubes isn't completely sealing. He wouldn't tell me how hard the job was or how to do it, but said "all that needs to be done was pull the tubes out, clean out the oil, reseal them back, and it'd be done". We'll see if I get around to it.
I do appreciate you putting time into my problem though. Thanks!
...side note: my TPS is dying. another thing i gotta replace...

What's the reason for applying on 4 spots the ultra gray seal? Thanks in advance. Nice video!

Hi,
Do you know what else I should do if I do this job? Do you know what sizes those fuel hoses are?
Thanks.

@MogTrader
I went ahead and replaced the spark plugs and spark plug wires. I destroyed the old spark plug wires trying to remove them.
I would recommend replacing the PCV valve.
I don't know what size the hoses are.
I would take a picture of your valve train while you have it apart. I wish I did.
