My MKV GTI got totaled close to the holidays last year. I had to replace it and I simply do not like the new GTI MKVI. I miss dearly my Red GTI with all the options.

I ended up getting a MKVI TDI, great car, and it is true, the materials feel better, the interior is friendlier, and the ride and noise are far less in the MKVI. Also, with 240LBS/FT torque, the TDI feels strong and sporty, not GTI like on the top end, but nice on the get and go.

I would have kept my GTI forever.. too bad its gone

the problem with the mk5 is that they are comparing the mk6 golf with the mk5 GTI. The mk5 golf is actually called the rabbit in the US and the front of that is in my opinion ugly. I think they should have either chosen to compare the mk5/mk6 gtis or the mk5/mk6 golfs.

I have a mk6 golf and i love it...wouldn't trade it for a mk5 golf/gti.

i was intrigued to see the difference side by side comparing both mk5 & mk6 models... disappointed with the new front of the mk6. TBH it looks like a mk4, with a nose lift and some new lights. The mk5 is much nicer and MANLY looking, (mk6 for the girls) and the rear i would say they are almost equal, although the mk5 takes it in styling and looks!

Hard to judge looks. I've always thought the MK5 looks great at the back, fatter and more expensive looking then the MK6 which to me was a disappointment from the first time I saw it on the road. However the MK6 looks much better and more aggressive at the front then the MK5.

I accept that the new one has a smoother ride, quieter engine and plusher interior.

But I actually prefer the overall look of the Mk5.

They are both quite bulbous shaped, and the Mk5 has rounded features that sit easily on it, whereas the new on looks to have angular ends grafted onto a rounded shape. Also, the mk6 loses the trademark blue dash lighting of the old car :-(

I own a mk5 GTI and my wife has got a Mk6 TDI, material-wise, Mk6 is far better, better sound insulation and a bit more of a man's toy. But to me, Mk5 seems to be the purest breed of all (since the mk1) and had perfectly instill its 'GTI' value more than the mk6. it's just my perspective.

As others have said, the Mark 5 looks better from the front if it's one of the later GTs. It has a sportier looking grille, introduced when they facelifted it in 2007. I suspect they may do the same when they facelift the Mark 6.

No way, the tail on the mk6 is way sleeker and more minimalistic. I like that they've lowered the profile and it draws focus to the two aggressive red lights peeking from behind the signal lights.

The whole car infact has this new 'enfant terrible' aggressive look to it, very nice.

If you like to go for a price deal and low tech with low quality you find right with Ford. At least in America is a popular but low low low quality car, and it works well in 80 degrees F in wheater heat, but in 85, 90 of 120F it start to disassemble by it self, from interior finishes to engine parts.
