This is beautiful... Love the original, but this one has it's own sort of funky, classical feel. Both are amazing, the song itself is incredibly versatile and could honestly be done in any style and still be incredible.

@calideson It was a month or two afterwards. It was part of a radio interview/performance on Dermot O'Leary's BBC radio show. Dermot was one of the last people to meet Michael Jackson before his death, and they talked about Michael in the interview. The interview is included in another vid somewhere on YT.

I was just thinking the other day that this would be a really cool song to slow the tempo and change it around to make a haunting ballad. Looks like Imogen beat me to the punch. Absolutely beautiful.
I love this version for everything that sets it apart from the original, and that's a rarity with covers. Of course, I still love the original when it's time to dance. :-)

No doubt Dermot had some say in Aiden performing this version, since Immi did this cover for his radio show last October if my memory serves me correctly.
I think Aidens problem is that he relys too much on his 'intense' performing, and seems to put more effort into fulfilling that image then actually singing a song properly. It worked in the first week but it's getitng old already. He doesn't need to make every single song his own (especially when X-Factor are ripping off the piano arrangement from someone else, aka this Imogen Heap version). Just sing a song and forget about looking all deep and mystifying as you do it. Imogen Heap kills this.

I will never understand why people can't just appreicate songs for what they are instead of trying to compare and contrast or make it into some sort of competition. In my opinion MJ's version is flawless and untouchable but as covers go Imogen Heap did a really good job I just don't think she could ever match the original and I like that she wasn't trying to she just interperted it her way.
Also EVERYONE always does the whole take a fast/uptempo song and give it the piano treatment thing.

I like this version. It's very different from the original recording. I have a vid of MJ's Thriller, with guitar tab of the original horns and synth, but I think I might try to work out these chords as well!

I disagree. Her voice gives it just the right amount of mystique and chill that she needs to make it hers. It would have been easy to just try to sing it like MJ, but she went and made it completely hers while still giving MJ credit.
While I wouldn't suggest she sing it like MJ because of the mood set by the piano accompaniment, the performance would have nonetheless been better if her voice was on pitch more.
Not understanding what you mean by "on pitch".... she is perfectly in tune to HER accompaniment, she can't sing every note as MJ did because she changed some of it....

I guess its all about tastes but personally myself, I don't like this cover. I'm not that familiar with Imogen Heap to begin with, but, as a fan of Jackson's original "Thriller", listening to this is very difficult for me. I'm not all about singing perfect notes at all, but Imogen's strange intonation in part of the song are just too brash for me to listen to. The 'emotion' she adds to the song comes across as superficial. To me anyway. *runs for cover*
I think the raw music by Imogen Heap is so much better. In some of the other stuff, the vocal track is messed around with a little bit too much for my liking.
I think the music of the song was always in a minor key. The melody uses the minor not the major third. But this version has a more 'minor' feel to it. I think it may technically be Dorian (using major instead of minor sixth) rather than ordinary minor, but I haven't played it through to check.
Very clever variation on an amazing song. Obviously cant beat teh original however this is such a cleverly arranged and performed variation, hope it comes out as a single

Why was my comment deleted. Because expressed lack of interest in the video. Bloody hell, what's happening to this place? I disagree. Her voice gives it just the right amount of mystique and chill that she needs to make it hers. It would have been easy to just try to sing it like MJ, but she went and made it completely hers while still giving MJ credit.

Not understanding what you mean by "on pitch".... she is perfectly in tune to HER accompaniment, she can't sing every note as MJ did because she changed some of it....

@springandnoodles yes, MJ made Thriller what it is, but he shouldn't get 100% credit for the song. He didn't write it. Only performed it. Rod Temperton wrote it.

I guess its all about tastes but personally myself, I don't like this cover. I'm not that familiar with Imogen Heap to begin with, but, as a fan of Jackson's original "Thriller", listening to this is very difficult for me. I'm not all about singing perfect notes at all, but Imogen's strange intonation in part of the song are just too brash for me to listen to. The 'emotion' she adds to the song comes across as superficial. To me anyway. *runs for cover*

I think the music of the song was always in a minor key. The melody uses the minor not the major third. But this version has a more 'minor' feel to it. I think it may technically be Dorian (using major instead of minor sixth) rather than ordinary minor, but I haven't played it through to check.
