  • @highspeedgaz nice of you to say so...thanks.

    Jeff

  • THIS IS SO GOOD

  • Very nice! This is the best Faces song :)

  • Fantastic video. This is one of the greatest songs every recorded and you have really captured the Ronnie Wood vibe. I have searched and searched for tabs or lessons for this. Watching and listening to how you played this has been most useful. Keep up the good work.

  • yep that ,s good listended to the whole lot faces are cool

  • nice

  • @PGSguitarist tabs?........I don't use no stinkin tabs!!

  • man your right on...... right and left hand you master this I dont know what else to say cept I need to practice more....Great job I personally like your had me a real good time

  • @chpyatt Thanks man, very kind of you to say so.

  • can somebody tell me what this song is about?

  • @dc2010ist Ronnie Lane wrote this for his dear old dad reminiscing about time spent together when Ronnie was a wee lad......or so the story goes.

  • Hey Jeff - just to say I'm still working on these Faces tunes - after watching your work. I got to see them play last month (Goodwood) here in the Uk and I thought of you. Any chance you could tackle one of my all time favourites - 'Last Orders' please? I know (from you) most tracks are standard tuning, but think this might be Open G?

Thanks again for the inspiration - and the amp tips,

    Chris

  • @westburygull Hi Chris, I like "Last Order" as well but the solo is done on the piano, so there isn't much left to cover on the guitar other than the rhythm which is very simple, not too exciting to play....

I do cover the beginning of the song, on my vid of the entire "Nod" album though....

...standard tuning my friend, and the slide parts are in open E...

    Cheers

  • yeh you goy it

  • Hi Jeff, this great stuff you are doing keeping the Faces sound alive, any chance you could post tabs of Debris to help a novice.Billy uk

  • Hi Jeff, this great stuff you are doing keeping the Faces sound alive, any chance you could post tabs of Debris to help a novice.Billy uk

  • wow

  • fuck, that's great. this has to be the most under rated band ever - and Ronnie Lane might be the most under recognized songwriter. Him and Bert Jansch

  • Jeff I just want to thank you - I loved these songs at the time - but you've inspired me to start playing again and I'm learning so much from you. I've even bought a Les Paul to get the tone. You truly are an inspiration. If I can get half as good as you I'll die a happy man. The combination of Ron Wood and Ronnie Lane sounds as good today as it did 30yrs ago - and you've got it just right - not just the sound but the feel as well. Good on you Jeff, thanks for sharing your work, Chris (UK)

  • Wow Chris, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your comment, to think I'v inspired someone brings a huge grin to my face!

And you went out and got a LP for the tone, impressive.

..... set your amp: treble 1, bass 4, and middle10 and have at it my friend!

    thanks again man!!

  • my god... you nailed it... so good!

  • Your videos are great. Via your skilled playing, you pull Ronnie's playing into the foreground & I hear his genius with a new set of ears.....The opening of this song was just brilliant.....okay, the whole song is brilliant, but Ronnie's choice of notes is never overdone. He understood "less is more."

  • Many thanks "manitou"......and I couldn't have said it better myself, Ronnie's playing is beyond brilliant on this record!!

    Cheers

    Jeff

  • beautiful and sublime. had never heard this faces song before.

  • Fabulous - Ronnie would have loved this. You have reproduced the great sound of The Faces!

  • Well done. You play it with great feeling.

    Custom Gibson ?

  • thanks frozenfish, yes 1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom...

  • "There will never be another like Ron Wood or a band like The Faces"

    How very true Jeff

  • what pedals ??

  • Muy bueno. Very good !!!!!!!! Jorge

  • . that starts out quick . did you add notes to the song i only paid for 1 or 2 albums after this Rod left the music as for as i`m concerned Nice Job.

  • i've seen several of your videos and you've convinced me that Ronnie Wood (Faces era anyway) was one of the very best guitarists ever. Such beautifully understated playing.

  • Yea 7777srd, there really is no other quite like Ronnie. his playing grabbed me at an early age.

And with the Faces he came up with some of the most amazing guitar work I've ever heard....the intricacies of his playing are magical...simple yet very hard to do.....

  • still have the LP....to me it's priceless...don't make them like that anymore.......Thanks for playing it.

    All the Best.

  • thanks for this post..(and many others)..believe RL wrote this about his dad..took him to buy his first guitar and he met Steve Marriot at the same time.. the rest is all too beautiful..Ronnie Woods playing is sublime..and you have done it justice

  • Perfect tone for the song mate - what amp are you using? Like the cherry LPC too - early 70s?

  • thanks for the tone comment jimmyjitrs, always in search of tone aren't we.....my trusty 74' LPC is played through a 90's Blues DeVille 4x10.

  • I have this CD....had it on tape.

    GREAT, GREAT SONG...

    RIP..RONNIE LANE.

YOU CAN FIND RONNIE LANE DOING IT LIVE 1974.ALSO THE ARMS CONCERT IN 1983..THE GREATEST MUSICIANS GATHERED FOR RONNIE..AND PARKINSONS DISEASE.RONNIE IS IN THE END OF OF THE VERY LAST DAY.AND TALKING.AND THANKING EVERYEONE..IT'S SO SAD...HE NEEDED MUCH HELP WALKING OFF THE STAGE..

  • awesome... i can still remember lifting the needle up to play this song over and over again... my favorite of lane's songs from faces. the other one on that album was 'that's all you need', woods guitar signature is so classic and you hit it right on this one... "don't stop, you make me feel much better!!"

  • yea, "lifting the needle up..." brings back great memories eah !

    thanks for the comment mate..

  • Yep . . .great band. The first 'sing;e' I ever bought was 'The Universal'. I still love it! :] Good job with the solo, man 5*

  • love it - right at the end I'm hearing the words "long distance information...." as sung by Rod start up in my head...takes me back to when albums were a work of art

  • oh, so thats how its done....Great !

  • nice playing. faces are really an underappreciated band.

  • Great playing! Lovely guitar and set up too- sounding brilliant!

  • Thanks a lot fredo, much appreciated.

  • A Nod Is As Good As A Wink... is probably the most underrated album of all time, and ronnie lane was one of the coolest guys ever...awesome to hear someone playing this stuff still. Can you play Richmond? thats one of my favorite ronnie lane songs.

  • dudee, i need tabs for this! do you think you could send me any? i cant find any online. that was an amazing performance, 5 stars.

  • Thanks ShaveBoots, there are no tabs for these Faces songs, I figure them out by ear. Once you get used to Ronnie's style it gets a little easier, but at first it's going to take some time!! ....good luck mate......

  • That was beautiful...tears rolling down my face! You must get chicks with the way you play that guitar.

  • try to pull yourself together keklein..........yeah chicks, you should see all of em hangin out in my basement !!!

  • lol I would hang out in your basement if you taught me to play that :p

  • Awesome riff on an awesome song

  • wooa c'est beau,je ne connais pas la version originale mais ça me rend heureuse cette mélodie

  • grrrrrreaaat . Ne one heard Kenji Suzuki do this???

  • Awesome job man! And such a great song, so powerful though it'll almost make you cry! Especially thinking about Ronnie being gone...

  • Great job, man. Awesome Les Paul custom!

  • Thanks ClaptonGod, I fell in love with that LP the minute I picked it up over 30 years ago and had to have it... I'v played a number of others since but there's just something about this one.... like it was made for me, if you know what I mean...

  • thanks billie....., maybe you could post your version, it'd be great to see more Faces stuff on YT...

  • Thanks for the great comment hydralx!

  • Like it, keep it alive. Its a shame the youngsters today are oblivious of the work of Ronnie Lane. TTFN Sam

  • whoa! You are good! Keep the good work up!

    Nice song as well!

  • Not bad, not bad at all.....

  • SPOT ON,FANTASTIC,LOVE IT.

  • I liked that, I went back to look at the song performed by Ronnie lane, and went back to yours, too bad they didn't use that Idea of a Les Paul plucking away in the background,i liked your version better.

  • OK, Murph, you nailed it. I suspect you can play anything you feel like playing, so I am grateful you chose this to share with us old Faces fans.

Hey, I can play Ooh La La since it's two chords...I'd better get back to practicing. Sigh.

  • from one old Faces fan to another..........thanks

  • THANKS! great video! Can you get me the tab of the intro? I've been searching the internet for it but can't find it! I hope you have them!

  • sorry to say there is no tab for this song,...I had to figure it out old school, note by note off the CD.....thanks for listening

  • great job.

  • Ah, played with heart, soul and respect, nicely done... R.I.P. Ronnie.

  • your comment is much appreciated gvb....thank you...

  • As an old Faces fan, i was only listening to A Nod's as Good as a Wink and I found this browsing today - amazing!! I love it.

  • Great to see this posted and there are a huge number of us Faces fans even after these years. Ronnie W's tateful licks graced this superb Ronnie Lane song. I usually play this when I am warming up for practice on acoustic.

  • I really appreciate you reminding me about this, Jan - from a fellow Faces nut. It prompted me learn this - albeit having dug out my well worn NIAGAWTABH, I note you're playing this a half a step down in E instead of F- or at least that's how its comimg out of my YouTube!

  • Thanks for the comment INSGIB.... I'm tunes a half step sharp, so that the E string will ring F when played open....the actual recording is somewhere between E and F so it's important to tune to the song....you have a good eye..... and ear!

  • Thanks for a fantastic rendition of a song i loved as a kid and now find i can play thanks to you. Just working on the feel now this seems to be natural to you. Nice one mate.... Nik in the uk

  • I've never liked Les Pauls...but yours sounds and looks awesome, great playing too!

  • Nice playing' My favourite song from Nods as Good as a wink...........Always Loved it........

    Thanks for Posting and Playing.......

  • thanks for the kind words jcw....it's always been my favourite as well.......

  • is ronnie lane playing the guitar, not ron wood. right?

  • Actually it's Ron Wood on guitar and Ronnie Lane on bass. But, Ronnie Lane wrote the song.

  • I know that but in the video - is difficult - I don't see the big nose of Ron. Maybe I'm wrong

  • Ronnie Lane passed away in 1997, rest his soul.....that's me in the video playing along with the record, my nose is a little smaller than Ron Wood's......but Ronnie Lane did play guitar as well as bass....

  • Nice playing dude, and GREAT choice of song..

  • thanks a lot ohisashiburi...

  • A talent such as that deserves some credit my man, have a good weekend.

  • I'd be forever in your debt if you could tab this.

Been looking all over for a tab for this but can't find anything anywhere.

Been wanting to play Debris a long, long time.

Great playing by the way, I like the feel.

  • No chance of you tabbing it out? Mine eyes are fawlty. Very nicely played too. Thanks!

  • if I ever get the tab done I'll send it to you....thanks for watching

  • Great job and great song. Can't believe I found this song... I typed in the search saying "no way this song is here." But I was wrong and now very happy.

    Brett

  • Thanks Brett, it's cool to get a favorable comment from a music critic........

    Jeff

  • I was a bit worried about watching this. I saw Ronnie many times playing live here in the UK and this song means a great deal to me, so it's hallowed ground you're treading on by playing this song! .... you did good, excellent job!

If Bradders is offering to sing, i'll offer rhythm guitar!

You have good taste - thanks for posting!

  • Thank you snackle.......I appreciate any nice comment but the ones from the UK really mean alot!......you, me and bradders, now if you could give Mac and Kenny a call....................

  • One of the best faces songs man.Your righ Ronnnie plays this just right, not to much or little.its perfect and it makes you FEEL like you are right next to the band. I think the key to Ronnie's style, is finding the main scale pattern and doing those warm feeling, 2 string hammer-ons (that is playing 2 strings and doing a hammer-on two frets up on the lower string). I dont know the technical name for it but it's a cool feeling to do on the guitar.

    very sweet overall :)

  • Brilliant mate...!!! I'd love to sing that number with you playing...great feel ...effortless..typical Woody style...well done ..loved it..!!!

  • Thank you Bradders for the kind comment, I appreciate it....

  • Nice! Just stumbled upon this. Ronnie Lane is one of my favourite song writers. Died too young poor chap.

  • Nice boy! It takes me right back to our countless hours of playing and listening to the Faces up in the bedroom. The walls covered in Wood and Beck posters, us trying to figure out how in the heck those guys played those songs. Great memories like that will never die. Very well done....

  • any chance of you doing "thats all you need"

  • Ronnie Wood on slide guitar is untouchable... I could never do that song justice, but thanks for asking, you have good taste my friend......I'm thinking about "You're so Rude" or "Miss Judy's Farm".......

  • bloody marvelous.ive got a less brilliant ooh la la on here if youre interested

  • thank you very much.... I did see your Ooh La La, it was good but your version of Flags and Banners was excellent!, my favorite!

  • Over here at the Paradis Party House, we are watching you tribute to Ronnie Lane!

  • what amp u using?

  • Fender Blues Deville, the tweed one with the 4 x10s. Fender only made that amp for a couple of years but I think it is one of there best sounding amps, thanks for asking.

  • Very very very very very nice indeed, wish I could play like that. Nice L.P. you have there ;p

  • thank you kindly

  • Is there a tab of your solo, or is it pure improvisation?

  • I have never seen a tab for this song. I figured out the song and the solo by ear off the CD. It took me a while but I think I finally have it close to note-for-note. Thanks for listening.

  • Ronnie Lane really is amazing, you do the song justice.

  • thanks nomad

  • lovely, ronnie would be smiling at you, nice playing, check out my ronnie video if you get a minute, Les

  • Les, your video of Ronnie is excellent, I watched it 5 times!.....well done.... What a cool guy he was, I wish I would have known him. . .and thanks for the the nice comments.

  • Great song! Ronnie would be proud. I never grow tired of watching you play guitar!

  • Thank you so much shredbetty22......you're too kind.......I hope Ronnie's smiling, wherever he is..................

  • nice one bud. Such a good tune. I love playin along to nods as good as a wink.

  • You've come a long way since I gave you that album. keep it up and you'll be a serious threat to "Uncle Phil" Keaggy!!

  • Thanks for the comment.......I doubt "Uncle Phil " is losing any sleep over it!.......and thanks for that album, I still have it........
