  • Keith doesn't just keep the beat here like an ordinary drummer would. He plays melodies on the drums. Majestic :)

  • Ah those days ... my generation........ had lots to say, although I use

" footmobile; this group can still beckon warm memories and get us up

    and "MOVIN'........

  • there would be no need to make a drum cover of this one, you should just play every fucking thing youve wanted in rythm, just as Keith would ahve done it every night.

  • One of the greatest guitar flip-outs of all time.

  • Watch the police and tax man miss me!

  • this drums..... genius

  • this is actually written to be a soft slow song but keith moon thought otherwise and put his touch on it, they were not happy with him.

  • thats gotte be the most dickhead guitar solo Ive ever heard....

  • @finalnexus ; ?

  • @finalnexus Love the song, but I'd have to agree with you haha

  • @the86thcreator Hahahaha thats funny...

  • @the86thcreator I remember in the late 70's still in grade school I was reading prestigious record critics rating this guitar solo as amazing and "genius" etc: oh my Pete's using a speedy envelope filter aka "touch wah" for his epic "GoingMobile" guitar solo!!... (well in reality its just a dopey dorky experiment)... you see Townshend was obsessed with Terry Riley and all kinds of electronic experimentation at this time... some of its rather silly and I find it to be amusing and funny...

  • always been one of my favorite songs!

  • I agree !!!

keith john never know moderation that's why I love this band most!!!!!

  • i like it when he ad-libs "beep beep"

  • BEEP BEEP

  • "the" best ALBUM in rock n' roll history-----Who's Next

  • What kind of acoustic is that? It sounds gorgeous.

  • If you talk about desert island discs, "Who's Next" has to be included.

  • The Who>>>The Beatles

  • @Mr11MUSICMAN I think they're equal.

  • @TheBeatlesPkmnFaan42 I guess.

  • Thanks for idea, I just may add it to my videos, stop over and let me know.

  • i might be mistaken about the decibal level but i believe the who stated in order to enjoy their music proper you shoul listen to it at 108 decibals check it out

  • 4 people need to get a life!

  • Why hasn't a cell phone company used this song for promotional purposes for their cell phone(s)? Who would have thought that this song would apply to something else in the future?

  • @grgeliz unfortunately, its only a matter of time.

  • The drums are exotic sounding..................

  • Any idiot knows Pete sings this one! Come'on people!!

  • 4 ppl r not going mobile

  • THANK YOU, I FUKKEN KNEW I WAS RIGHT

  • i know hes the lead singer but the other band members sing a few songs on various albums this does not sound like daltry anybody know

  • @fukkenshakit the one who is singing is pete , not roger daltrey....

  • @MrRafaga18 Naah, the guy singing on this song is Daltrey, go listen to the vid "The who - acid queen - Woodstock" in which the singer is Townshend, his voice is quite different.

  • @239677nico

What nonsens. This is Pete all the way.

  • @Lexcoaster Well, I made enquires and you're right :)

But i actually have the impression they have the same voice, but i guess it's just me...

  • @239677nico

The same voice? Huh!? Now this I don't understand. Take a good listen to both their voices, they're day and night.

  • @239677nico

The same voice? Huh!? Now this I don't understand. Take a good listen to both their voices, they're day and night. :)

  • One of the few songs that make you wanna pick a car, motorbike, bicycle and just ride for the thrill of it.

  • 4 people lost their license lol

  • @modawg8k lol

  • Keith Moon... the mad drummer .... inventive and ahead of his time

  • "When i'm drivin' free, the world's my home.... When i'm mobile!! Whee-hoo! Beep beep!"

    Love that part :D

  • This song makes me want to hit the road with a band of Gypsys.

  • The basic tracks and main vocal were laid down live. Jesus Christ!!!!

  • 4 people go to work on foot...

  • @Davi71194 LOL!! Absolutely no concept of incredible music!!

  • @Davi71194

    fuck that was funny!

  • yassir!

  • The use of that ARP synthesizer & the envelope follower to synthesize the electric guitar is just the most amazing sound. The keyboards & guitar play on separate tracks like a single, two-headed beast.

  • "hey Ma i'll be back later"

    "were are you going"

    "to kill 4 ppl"

    "What?!"

"don't worry ma i got 130 ppl to back me up"

  • great tune, I almost prefer Pete's voice sometimes

  • The rhythm section just melted my face.

    Epic tune.

  • Great vocals by Townsend and what more can you say about the great Keith.Great track from a magnificent album

  • This video has been chosen for October 23, 2010 post on Facebook page: Random Daily Classic Rock Song

  • @2006ilovejenna Pete Townsend is singing this. :)

  • its about the 1960 vw-bus. what a car :O

  • @2006ilovejenna

It's quite easy to hear that it's Pete's voice.

  • "I don't care about pollution

    I'm an air-conditioned gypsy

    That's my solution

Watch the police and that tax man miss me!"

Greatest line of all time... Anyone agree?

  • love it

  • amazing 1971 the who had the answer

  • Keep me movin!

  • Wee whoo, beep beep!

  • Thats God at the End Blessin the greates rock bnad

  • Four musical genious'. Brilliant song. Great singing by Pete aswell, he was always a good singer, just as Roger is good on the Guitar.

  • The level of synch the who had was unprecedented. The lyrics are genius and songs are just so much darn fun! The Who is really the best of the best...4 incredible musicians.. 4 guys that could all sing. Keith might be the best drummer who ever lived. Entwhistle on the bass... Incredible.... Pete was a genius; His vision, his lyrics and the way he arranged things. Daltry was the classic front man with the voice that could flatten a stadium.

  • @etrius24

I couldn't agree any more with what you said. But just one thing about this song, most people think Roger sang this one, but no, it was Pete! Flawless vocals, pure genius...

Also, as an added note, I always thought this song was played with a capo on the 7th fret, but I guess Pete strummed it out without one, very difficult!

  • @secularZ00 i new it was pete. i was there

  • @etrius24

Yeah I know Pete Sang this song and I love his voice in this tune...So clear and light.. But normally most of the singing is done by Roger...Which is why I said in my description of the band that he was the perfect front man with his voice...

    Cheers!

  • The guitar near the end of the song was played through a synthesizer.

  • I like it better when Pete sings

  • An all time favorite.

  • one of their best songs, I always thought it was underrated; great drumming by Keith Moon

  • @quadleaf95 thanks

  • "watch the police and the tax man miss me" great line!

  • F the police and tax man. lol.

  • dasboot, great movie. Anyway I own a small business and so does my friend and we both have 2 books! he he he he....

  • @dasboot19801 thanks that was my line i gave it to pete

  • No love for Who By Numbers?

Actually, in retrospect, WBN is a little derivative - catchy though.

  • This was from what I consider to be one of the best albums the Who made, "Who's next". "Tommy" was the other.

  • Oh yeah Who's Next is definetely my favorite Album. It's one of the greatest Rock Albums.

  • Keith Moon loved the Beach Boys and other surf music.

  • unbelievable. such a different genre.

what was someone like Keith doing playing along with Pete's songs anyway? :S

  • All the songs were Pete's. Her wrote all the songs, but Keith loved the Beach Boys so he liked other music styles besides his own.

  • @wwekane2468: I believe John Entwhistle composed "My Wife", and one other song on the "Who's Next" album.

  • this is one of those songs that almost guarantees you a speeding ticket on the freeway....

  • I don't much like the Who since I abandoned the hippy way of life, but this song's alright by me.

  • BTW Keith Moon hated hippies he he. The Who are more in the geneology of old school rock and rollers Gene Vincent Eddie Cochran etc.

  • @Flagg1991 Don't need to be a hippy to enjoy good music.

  • One of the best tunes to listen to while smokin' a nice big fat reefer...HaaaYeeaaah. Hey, or @ least I think so. JCIL

  • Incredible song, I never get tired of it :)

  • "I'm an airconditioned gypsy".....GENIUS!

  • Wellcome to classic rock ;-)

  • watch the police and the taxman miss.

  • one of best songs eva?

  • fuckin-a, brilliant. it's a distorted guitar with a pedal or a wah-wah bar.

  • Freakin BRILLIANT - What's the instrument at the end? just a distorted geetar? 3:23

  • Either A Synthesizer Or A Distorted Guitar Sound. Not Quite Sure. I've Read About It Before Though,Pretty Sure It's A Synth.

  • I wonder if it's the same distorted guitar sound as in That Lady by the Isley Brothers? Just a guess.

  • @OldMusicMedia It's an effect pedal called an envelope follower.

  • @OldMusicMedia its both, he plays a distorted guitar through a synthesizer

  • @OldMusicMedia I think it is a bass in a synthesizer but I don't know

  • @OldMusicMedia I'm pretty sure (by the phrasing) it's a guitar through an old style distortion and either a wah pedal or some sort of period phase shifter

  • @OldMusicMedia I'm pretty sure (by the phrasing) it's a guitar through an old style distortion and either a wah pedal or some sort of period phase shifter - last note sounds like a faded out saw-tooth synth wave.

  • @PaterF2 Both VCS 3 & ARP synths are used on the album

  • @PaterF2 I think I read somewhere that Pete ran his guitar through a VCS3 for the solo...

  • @OldMusicMedia Its a VCS 3 synth or ARP syth, both of which are used on the album

  • @tetedepoulet

    It's a guitar going through a synthesizer.

  • it's a guitar put through a synthesiser.

  • @tetedepoulet I second that! Incredible..and it's a guitar played through a synth. It has a fantastic texture to it too :)

  • @tetedepoulet sound at the end is pete playing thru a syth

  • The wah-wah sounding thing is Pete's guitar fed through a synth to get an auto-wah effect. The smoother sounding tones are synth.

  • @tetedepoulet The Musitronics Mu-Tron III is an auto-wah effects pedal produced by Musitronics. -(Wiki)

    It rocks. (me)

  • @tetedepoulet I am not an expert, but it reminds me of the sound on Lady Gaga s "Just dance" so probably the Who was way ahead of their time with this kind of synths, just a guess...

  • @proslade lady gaga is shit next to the who

  • @lizardrama That is not what is in question here, drama something person, I was elaborating on the similar sound that I found at a Gaga song and compared with what I heard at the end of this the Who song. That is what people were asking about how that sound was produced...Not if Gaga is shit or not. I am not a Gaga fan either, but besides "Tommy" I am also not a great The Who estimator.

  • @tetedepoulet Actually, its VCS 3 synthesizer or ARP synth, both of which are used extensively on the album

  • Their very best album, no contest

  • OMG.......the memories.....

  • Thanks!

  • i m a airconditioned gypsy.

  • peep peep

  • I'd forgotten how much I like this song.

  • one of my favs
