  • i wanna know why 944's have such finicky timing belts, i mean i don't know of any other car that you even have to touch the belt until about 80k miles, and if you have an early model before they had automatic tensioners prepare to pay alot of money

  • Its because they don't have auto-adjusting self tensioners that newer cars have.

  • Don't forget to retighten all the belts (cam+balanse shafts) after around 2000miles, or you can end up rebuilding cylinder head again.

  • That car sounds beastly!

  • howd did you refurbish your wheels?

  • So far, the rims haven't been touched. Rebuilt all 4 brakes though with new seals and pads, new fluid. At some point, I will get around to powdercoating the rims. The silver is chipped in a few places, few scuffs from the previous owner, and the black is faded. Black lug nuts would look amazing too.

  • @theexitwound what was the total cost of rebuild?...any tips?

  • At first, total rebuild cost came to around $4000, somewhere around the value of the car. New dash, seats, engine rebuild, etc. But it's needed more things as time went on and it's clsoer to $6K now. No paint yet, either. But it's been fun and I've learned a lot.

It's mostly small things that are creeping up. Idle valve. Fuel pump. Tie rod. Those sorts of things.

  • yeah...im doing the same thing....its running well.....redoing ball joints and tie rods right now

  • nice
