That's what you get when you have goofy ass non-residents acting as park rangers. They don't have a clue and are a danger to anyone and anything around them...much more dangerous than the bears themselves.
The bear was too comfortable around people so they shot it with a rubber bullet then chased after it to make sure the bear associated the pain with people in hopes it teaches the bear to avoid people in the future. btw a regular gunshot sound does not always scare a bear. In fact many bears have learned to come to a gunshot sound cause they figure there is going to be a dead animal for them to eat.
I'm no ranger, but using my awesome observation skills, clearly these rangers were shooting and scaring the cub so as to stop the mother accidentally defending the cub by murdering all the people who would get too close by accident.
Not sure why this has to many dislikes. This isn't animal cruelty people, this is just common sense. And remember, animals, though they deserve respect, are in fact animals and need to be trained to understand. As we can't use words, actions are the next best thing
When I lived and worked in Yosemite almost twenty years ago, there was this bear who ripped car doors off to get at food. This bear was tranquilized and brought up to the high country in the Park. Nah its not to bad. Sometime they tranquilize the bear and tag them so they can keep track. I once saw a bear crossing a bridge it was freaking awesome!
Those of you that think this is sad don't understand what they are doing. Bears come around humans like this because of the smell of food. Some people feed the bears or leave food out and the bear keeps coming back and soon attacks people and subsequently gets shot and killed. If the Park Ranger shoots the bear with a rubber bullet (These won't even kill men) the bears learn a fear of people and stay away healthy and happy. So sad? Get a grip!?

I remember I was at Yosemite a couple of years ago and some dumb tourists approached a black bear and her cubs and were bluff charged by her. The bear didn't even come close to touching them, yet these tourists claimed to the ranger that they were attacked by it. Unfortunately, the bear ended up getting shot thanks to their stupid lie, and I'm sure the cubs starved to death. Some people just have no respect for nature.
I'm sure these people were probably bluffed charged by a black bear too.

Ive been upclose and personal with black bears while hunting in northern ontario and can say there was no need for that, bears can be dangerous but that bear wasnt even close to those kids.

the bears are getting crazy there now i was just ther and i was staying in the house keeping grounds and around 5pm the bears came out of the wood work one night the rangers were shoting te rubber shots at 2am

Nah its not to bad. Sometime they tranquilize the bear and tag them so they can keep track. I once saw a bear crossing a bridge it was freaking awesome!

Those of you that think this is sad don't understand what they are doing. Bears come around humans like this because of the smell of food. Some people feed the bears or leave food out and the bear keeps coming back and soon attacks people and subsequently gets shot and killed. If the Park Ranger shoots the bear with a rubber bullet (These won't even kill men) the bears learn a fear of people and stay away healthy and happy. So sad? Get a grip!?

I remember I was at Yosemite a couple of years ago and some dumb tourists approached a black bear and her cubs and were bluff charged by her. The bear didn't even come close to touching them, yet these tourists claimed to the ranger that they were attacked by it. Unfortunately, the bear ended up getting shot thanks to their stupid lie, and I'm sure the cubs starved to death. Some people just have no respect for nature.
I'm sure these people were probably bluffed charged by a black bear too.
