Wish more trains nowdays had the dutch doors, that the only real way to get the proper train experience. Nothing like standing at the open window at 60 mph.
When the Empire Builder and other trains from the north come into Chicago's Union Station, do the locomotives pull the trains all the way in, or are they detached in the yard so that switch engines or the locos themselves can push them in? I seem to remember when I was kid coming in on the EB in the early days and noticing the train was "headless" when we got off and walked down the platform to the terminal.
@decline2state well the Empire Builder comes in facing the Yards so they could have easily cut off the egines before you got off without you knowing it.
they never cut off the engines all trains retain there motive power when pulling it. after the train unloads the passengers it pulls out into the yard for turnaround re-stocking and cleaning.
Are you a Engineer too ? i always said Chicago has many Entries & Exits..haven't been there in years i have fond memories of Traveling there via Broadway Limited..

Yeah, that's cool. FYI, the brakes aren't on, that's the flanges squealing on the curve. The brake indicators are green from what I could tell.
