Its hard to believe that was 10 years ago. I was working at Overnite Transportation in Indy at the time. The old CF facility is now a huge Old Dominion terminal. The company behind us still has 3 Corn Flake trailers they use for storage. Pretty neat.
Emery was sold to UPS in about 2004. Since Emery was a third of our work, they let a third of us go which included me. I got a big 18 week severance pay for 36 years of service. I shouldn't complain because that is more then the CF employees got, some of which were there longer then me
They had plenty of money to buy Emery Air Freight. Sunk a $billion plus there. Bought the four Con Way divisions and slowly while"Not competing for the same freight" end quote Western Regional VP Mike McConnell about 1994 Elk Grove, CA meeting of numerous western states union employees and company non union salary employees, meeting to broaden all CF employees paradigms regarding "our" future.
We do not compete with Con Way for the same freight. Liar! Jim Tennier Reno, NV
@nd318865 I was working for CF at the time of the Emery purchase in 1990. I was told that CF had over 300 million from the sale of Freightliner sitting in the bank and had to do something with it.
So they bought a floundering Emery Air Freight and stuck (scuttlebutt) another $700 million in and ended up with Con Way and Menlo Logistics. What ever happened to Emery part? Don't have a clue.
I know that this video, these truths are old news, think about the slap in the face, the lack of respect to the working men and women,
Arrow Trucking did that to the drivers three days before Christmas, another slap in the face and the mommy boy son, and his mother hid millions and left over one thousand drivers stranded, fuck them.
CF succesfully gave the union the boot. They built ConWay from scratch after Jones Truck Lines went out. Bought hundreds of small terminals; sold them to ConWay for 10 cents on the dollar. Just a way to manipulate the money. When the regional ConWays became large enough to morph into a coast to coast operation, they shuttered CF. They HATED the Teamsters and got rid of them. The Teamsters weren't smart enough to see it coming. (Well, some of us did).
Probably the best company around, it's a shame they filed for Chapter 11. If it weren't for CF, my 1965 Freightshaker that we are restoring wouldn't be in our hands today, and freightliner makes good cabovers!!!!
@manny9800 i work for con-way now been here a year and a half. i love to hear the stoies from the guys here that worked for cf. they say it was a great place wish i could have been around for it. one guy now in his 40's; his father worked for cf and he told me stoires of how his dad would take the tractor home and he would sit up in it. these guys i will listen too for ever. thie kid now a man has known cf and now conway all his life a true shame though that a graet company does not exist now
@blueaardvark1717 Im sorry but i called it quits i only lasted 4 months there i hated line hual i wanted to do p and d but in conway you cant pick intill you get a bid and i had to wait maybe years..
worked for CF for 36 years. Leland James, founder, would roll over in his grave if he knew how new management drove the once largest trucking company in North America into the ground....a lot of really stupid mistakes....maybe they weren't mistakes?
They are now Con Way a non union LTL carrier and Menlo Logistics. Menlo Park, CA. Logistics is where the person answering the phone makes the money and the driver does all the work.
I think that YRC is headed for the same fate. Memorial day is coming up! ABF is hiring according to thier road drivers. We will see if that is the case at the end of this month!
Consolidated Freightways had their certificate revoked in 1996, Authur Anderson cooked the books, badages of Fraud, alledging they were self-insured and they were not, therefore they had no workers compensation. No surety bond!
The dept. of Industrial relations/self-insured plans revoked their certiicate in 1996!
Corporate America, Henry Ford loved Hitler, had some of his union organisors beaten to death by guys who resembled Hitlers SS douchcunts. There is not one reason for corporate america nazis to control out lives, their is not one reason for workers to abuse their uniion priviledge, let us all work together like a union of people for the common good.
@badattitude77769 If the twelve west coast vice presidents did not get 200,000 in golden parachutes, up to 3.5 million dollars in golden parachutes, on half in cash, one half in stock options, maybe, just maybe the suits who get all the perks, would still have a company to lord over. Have seen the good and bad with unions, the union of family, of workers, of people, united people of the united states of america, let us all work together for the common good.

what's sad is it's almost 10 years later now and the companies who have taken cf's place don't pay nearly as well as cf did 10 years ago.

It's sad to see a 70+ year old company go under. If they had loads of money, it would be the best company today
